The Hardrocker Volleyball team looks to build on the success from last year when the team posted an overall record of 24-11 and a 9-4 DAC10 conference mark. Coach Kristy Allgier begins her second season as head coach with a strong returning nucleus and the addition of four newcomers that promise to make 2002 another exciting season. "This year we plan to raise our level of competition," said Allgier. "Our first goal is to make it to the regional tournament, which is one step further than we went last year. We have some great recruits coming in and I look forward to the season." Leading returnees include Megan Barnes, a junior outside hitter from Laramie, Wyoming, who was a DAC-10 All-Conference first team selection, and Molly Barnes, a senior setter from Laramie (no relation to Megan), was a DAC-10 All-Conference second team selection. Megan was third in the league in kills (4.37 pg), and fourth in digs (4.95 pg). Molly was second in the conference in serving percentage (98.1%) and fourth in assists (10.33 pg). Returning letterwinners include senior Jami Zilles at middle blocker (second in the league statistics in blocking at 1.39 pg), senior Cassie Keene (outside hitter/DS); juniors Steph Randall (defensive specialist), Keri Hansen (right side), Dani Fischer (defensive specialist), and Sarah Farber (outside hitter); and sophomore Danielle Arp (outside hitter). Newcomers include Amy Laurdisen, a 6-1 setter from Greeley, CO, and Jamie Graves, a 5-8 setter from Broomfield, CO. Both are freshmen ready to take control of the offense, according to Coach Allgier. Chelsea Neuman is a 6-1 right side transfer from Western Nebraska Community College, who will bring experience and drive to Tech's offense as a right side. Also joining the team is freshman Rebekah Cornelia, a 5-9 outside hitter from Sundance, WY.

The Hardrock Club was organized to support the athletic program at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. It is the central fund raising organization responsible for developing competitive, championship teams at Tech. All level of contributions provide you with a membership in the Hardrock Club and the satisfaction of providing educational and athletic opportunities for many student athletes. The value of a successful athletic program is immeasurable to the athletes, coaches, faculty, alumni, fans, and friends of SDSM&T and is the result of a 100% effort by everyone. We need to continue to build on the foundation established over the past 50 years by the Hardrock Club. But, to continue to build, our growth must be reflected both in the amount of contributions, as well as the number of contributors. ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS... Membership in the Hardrock Club allows deserving students to attend South Dakota Tech. Athletic scholarships allow some of the best student-athletes in the region to attend one of the top engineering schools in the nation.
