Welcome to the King Center and Goodell Gymnasium, home of the Hardrockers. The facilities recently had a facelift as the women’s basketball, men’s basketball, women’s volleyball and men’s football teams all got upgrades to the locker room area. The football team is totally housed at O’Harra Stadium, while the other sports recently had their current facilities modified. The locker rooms are all state of the art to go along with an excellent gym that seats approximately 3,000 plus and there is a top of the line fitness center and an indoor pool for use as well.


Dick Kaiser, South Dakota School of Mines Athletics Director Dick Kaiser will be entering his 38th year of working in intercollegiate sport during 2012. He earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of Northern Colorado, a master's in educational administration from South Dakota State University and a doctorate of education in athletic leadership and administration from Brigham Young University. He also completed his post-doctorate in health education and administration at Oregon State University. Before arriving at South Dakota Mines, Kaiser had served as the AD for Defiance College for 10 years. In addition, he has served as AD at Olivet College, Western Oregon University and Willamette University. Kaiser has received a number of honors and awards as an Athletic Director from several athletics organizations such as the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as well as many regional and state athletic associations. During his first three years on the job at SD Mines, Kaiser has been responsible for guiding the Hardrockers through the various stages of the transition process toward becoming a full NCAA Div. II member (projected September, 2013), working with fundraising efforts and seeking a permanent conference affiliation. SD Mines has 13 athletic programs within the department; these include the women competing in volleyball, cross country, basketball, indoor/outdoor track and golf while the men will be competing in football, cross country, basketball, indoor/outdoor track, golf and the newest addition --- soccer. Men’s soccer was the first men’s intercollegiate sport added to SD Mines in over 45 years. Kaiser has two grown children, Cassie and Ryan and four grandchildren; Jack (age 6); twins Caden and Carson (ages 3); and Lucy (age 2).


Scott Baird, South Dakota Mines Head Athletic Trainer Scott Baird is a 1997 graduate of Dakota Wesleyan University and is in his sixth year as head athletic trainer at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Before joining the School of Mines Athletic Department, he was an athletic trainer for the University of Wyoming where he covered both men's rugby and lacrosse. He brings much knowledge and experience to the School of Mines Sports Medicine Team. Scott has been married to Becky, a Physical Therapist in Rapid City, for 16 years and has twin girls -- Braedyn and Blakely (ages 2).

Derrick Lecy, South Dakota Mines Assistant Trainer Derrick is starting his second year as an assistant athletic trainer for the South Dakota School of Mines. He is a 2010 graduate of South Dakota State where he earned a bachelor’s degree in athletic training. While at SDSU, Derrick spent his senior year as a student trainer for the football team and helped out in all sports as a junior. Before becoming a Hardrocker, Derrick was the head trainer for Douglas High School in Box Elder. Derrick’s parents have a chiropractic firm in Rapid City and he also works there when not helping Hardrocker student-athletes. Derrick and girlfriend Amanda have a baby boy --- Finn (age 1).


Jen Ranum, Assistant AD, Compliance Officer, Assistant Trainer Jennifer Ranum is starting her third year as the NCAA Div. II Compliance Officer at the School of Mines making sure that the Hardrockers are kept up to speed on all NCAA rules and regulations and helping student-athletes with eligibility and other questions. She will also be starting her sixth year as an assistant athletic trainer for the Hardrockers. She graduated in May of 2007 from National American University with degrees in Athletic Training and Applied Management. Jen became certified in September of 2007. She is a member of both the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and the Mid America Athletic Trainer’s Association since 2004. She has spent three years at the School of Mines doing outreach as a student athletic trainer and upon graduation was hired and is now in her fourth year as assistant athletic trainer. Also this summer she was promoted assistant Athletics Director and will help the Hardrocker with game day management along with other administrative duties

Anita Brenneman SD Mines Program Assistant Anita Brenneman has been with SD School of Mines and Technology since 2006, and has been in the Athletic Department since 2012. Her duties include game day and team travel administration, as well as department purchasing, and managing the day to day needs of the front office. Anita is a native of Sturgis, SD, and moved back to the Black Hills area 6 years ago with her husband David, and boys Ethan and Logan.


Rick Lutes, South Dakota Mines Athletic Equipment Manager Rick Lutes embarks on his s year as the South Dakota School of Mines equipment manager. Among a multitude of duties for the Hardrockers, Rick works alongside coaches to coordinate each program’s equipment needs for practices, games, meets or matches. His duties range from laundry of uniforms to inflating the game balls. Rick has been a multi-sports official for 30-plus years on the high school and college level having held a Masters Level rating with USA Track and Field. Rick has also enjoyed in the past officiating adapted athletics for high schools in Minnesota and the Courage Center of Golden Valley, Minn. Rick has held athletic and event management related positions in Minnesota and Texas. Before the move to Rapid City Rick was the Director of Track and Field at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn. Rick and his family moved to Rapid City when his wife, Kathy, a pastor, accepted a call to a local Rapid City church. The Lutes’ are parents of two adult sons.

Tiffany McCampbell, SD Mines Assistant AD, SAAC Advisor, Senior Woman Administrator, Head Volleyball Coach Along with being the South Dakota Mines women’s volleyball coach, Tiffany is also the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) advisor, the Senior Woman Administrator and most recently beenh promoted to Hardrocker Assistant Athletics Director. As SAAC advisor, Tiffany presides over meeting and helps organize community service events. As the SWA, Tiffany’s role is to encourage and promote the involvement of women in decision-making, enhance the representation women's experiences and perspectives and support women’s interests in intercollegiate athletics. With her new duties as assistant AD Tiffany will have an active role in game-day management and have other administrative duties.


Jason Henry, a native of Minot, ND, enters his eighth season as the Hardrockers' men's basketball head coach. Under Henry's direction the Hardrockers have made it a priority to win on their home floor as the team has establishing a home record of 49-16 over the past four seasons which has transferred into winning seasons the past four seasons. He also guided the Hardrockers to appearances in the Dakota Athletic Conference championship game in back-to-back years (2010, 2011) and three of the last five seasons. His efforts also earned him Dakota Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2011. Henry has led the Hardrockers to their fourth winning season in a row for the third time in school history. During the 2011-12 season Henry also became the fastest coach to 100 wins at SD Mines. Before being promoted, Henry served as an assistant at South Dakota School of Mines for three years where he coordinated the team's recruiting efforts and helped in all aspects of the program under Hugh Welsh. Henry played high school basketball at Minot Bishop Ryan and college ball at Minot State in North Dakota, where he graduated in 1997 with a degree in physical education as well as corporate fitness. Henry went on to receive his Master's degree in education from North Dakota State University. Henry's coaching career began as an assistant at Minot Bishop Ryan in 1994. He continued as an assistant with stops at West Fargo, N.D., and Minot State. He then served as head boys' and girls' basketball coach at PBK High School (Pingree,

Buchanan, and Kensal) in North Dakota, and two seasonsas head boys' coach at Washburn, N.D. The following season Henry then returned to the college level with a two-year stop at the North Dakota School of Science, a junior college in Wahpeton, N.D., as an assistant. During his last year at Wahpeton in 2002, the team finished with a 31-2 mark and set 14 school records. He coached Team North Dakota during the summers of 1999-2002 which traveled to Australia and Hawaii to compete in international play. Along with his coaching duties over the years, Henry has taught business and physical education classes at the high school and college level. "Mines is a wonderful place to coach and Rapid City is a beautiful place to live," Henry said. "I have been blessed to have worked with a number of Hall of Fame coaches and learned so much along the way. It is always exciting to start each year and implement my style of play along with the styles that have become part of me from the people I have worked with in the past. "With an up-tempo offense and pressure defense, we will continue to have some very exciting basketball now and in the future. We have been able to get some of the top student/athletes around the area because of the excellent academic background at Mines. We plan on continuing to bring in these top-notch studentathletes and build upon the foundation that has been established from the past coaches at the School of Mines." Henry is married to Anne who is a dental hygienist in Rapid City and they have a 6-year-old daughter Gretchen and 4 1/2-year-old Enna.


Eric enters his eighth season as the assistant coach for the Hardrocker basketball program. Glenn is a native of Riverton, Wyo., but spent much of his childhood years in Hot Springs where his father was the head football coach. Eric played football and basketball for two years at Chadron State College in Chadron, Neb., where he was a back-up quarterback and point guard. He then finished his final two years with the Eagle basketball program. He graduated from Chadron State with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education (1993). After graduation, he stayed on as an assistant for then head coach, Bob Wood, where he helped the Eagles to their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference league championship. As an assistant at Chadron State he earned a Master of Arts degree in Sports and Recreation Management. In 1995, he went to the University of Wyoming where he was the third assistant on Joby Wright's basketball staff. After a two-year stint at Wyoming, he moved on to Scottsbluff High School where he was the assistant coach on the Bearcats District B-6 championship team that qualified for the Nebraska State Tournament. The next season he went to Missouri Valley College and was the assistant men's basketball coach for the Vikings in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. In 2000, he was hired as the head coach of Missouri Valley and led the Vikings to their best conference finish in four years, hosted and won play-off tournament games two out of the three years and was nominated for conference coach of the year

twice. From 2001 to 2003 he served on the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II National Tournament Committee. In 2003 he took the opportunity to move closer to family and became an assistant at Black Hills State University under Mike Kruszynski. Glenn has directed and worked at numerous basketball camps and clinics throughout the Midwest, which have included the University of Wyoming, Colorado State University, Chauncey Billups Basketball Camps, Creighton University, Mike Trader Basketball Camps and Montana State University. He is married to the former Lorna Dahlgren, who played for the Chadron State women's basketball program from 1991 - 1995. She holds career records in assists, steals, rebounds and free throws and is in the No. 2 all-time leading scorer. Lorna is a Chadron State inductee They have one son, Jarek, who is nine and Peyton is four year old.


T.J. Hay is in his first year on the Hardrocker staff and is excited about working with such an excellent coaching staff. T.J. was born in Rapid City and graduated from Central High School. He played basketball, ran track, and was on the golf team. T.J. was also an Allstate baseball player for Post 22. Coach Hay played baseball for 4 years at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma where he also served as a graduate assistant for one year. He graduated from Cameron with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education in 1991. After graduation, T.J. started his teaching and coaching career at Lower Brule High School where he served as the head boys' basketball coach and was a varsity assistant in football and track for one year. The following year T.J. was hired as a middle school science teacher at Southwest Middle School in Rapid City and coached football, basketball and track. In 1995 he joined the football staff at Stevens High School where he served as an assistant varsity coach for 7 seasons while coaching the defensive backs and receivers. Coach

Hay was hired as an assistant basketball coach at Stevens in 1996. He was an assistant under 2 different head coaches for 5 years. In 2000 he was promoted to the head coach and served that position for 12 seasons. He has taught physical education at Stevens for 12 years. T.J. is married to Traci, a Nurse Practitioner at Black Hills Dermatology. They have a 17 year old daughter Madison and a 13 year old son Dylan.

Name: Lucas Nolan No. 4 Class: Junior Position: Guard Height: 6-3 Hometown: Casper, Wyoming Major: Chemical Engineering Highlights: Lucas had a productive season in 2011-12 as the six man. He appeared in 30 games, contributing valuable minutes at the point guard position. Lucas was a two-time All-State player in both football and basketball in high school and was voted the “Hardest Worker� by his Hardrocker teammates last season.


Name: James Dean No. 20 Class: Senior Position: Guard Height: 6-3 Hometown: Las Vegas, Nevada Major: Civil Engineering Highlights: James lost 25 pounds in the offseason and is ready to compete and contribute in 2012-13. In high school James earned numerous player of the week honors as well as earned allstate accolades and won the Reebok Big Time Award. Away from basketball James enjoys Rock Climbing.


Name: Calvin Thomas No. 23 Class: Sophomore Position: Guard Height: 6-3 Hometown: Cypress, Texas Major: Chemical Engineering Highlights: Calvin has been in the Hardrocker basketball system for three years. He spent one year as a red-shirt and was a great player off the bench last season appearing in 18 games for South Dakota Mines. His biggest highlight last year was defeating Black Hills State (SD Mines’ biggest rival) at their place.


Name: Caleb Shockman No. 40 Class: Junior Position: Forward Height: 6-8 Hometown: LaMoure, North Dakota Major: Mechanical Engineering Highlights: Caleb has been a part of the Hardrocker basketball program for three years. He is a transfer from North Dakota State University and after red-shirting his first year as a Hardrocker has been a valuable tool to SD Mines. He appeared in 30 games last season and looks to be an impact player as the 2012-13 campaign gets underway.


Name: Philip Schanilec No. 3 Class: Freshman Position: Guard Height: 6-1 Hometown: Forest River, North Dakota Major: Civil Engineering Highlights: After spending a year as a redshirt, learning the ‘Rocker system, Philip is ready to compete and should contribute right away. He earn the Mr. Basketball award in North Dakota as a high school senior as well as being named to the All-State First Team and the Outstanding Class B Athlete of the Year.

Name: Justin Schock No. 44 Class: Freshman Position: Forward Height: 6-9 Hometown: West Fargo, ND Major: Chemical Engineering Highlights: Justin redshirted his first year at the South Dakota School of Mines. During his senior year of high school at West Fargo, Justin was named to the AllConference squad. At 6-foot-9-inches Justin should contribute to the Hardrockers as a shooter and a rebounder. An interesting fact about Justin is he has lived in seven different states.


Name: Andrew Rebol No. 55 Class: Junior Position: Center Height: 6-8 Hometown: Fort Morgan, Colorado Major: Industrial Engineering Highlights: Andrew is an NCAA Div. I transfer from Centenary College in Louisiana. He came to SD Mines last year, where he redshirted. He brings a big presence in the paint and will be equally productive both offensively and defensively for the Hardrockers.


Name: Dennis Dobkowski-Rylko No.RS Class: Junior Position: Guard Height: 6-2 Hometown: Gdynia, Poland Major: Mathematics

Highlights: Denis most recent spent the last two years playing hoops at the junior college level, competing for the Cuesta College Cougars in San Luis Obispo, Calif. He helped the Cougars to back-to-back 20-plus wins in a season and in 2012 an appearance in the Junior College League Sweet 16.

Name: Brian King No. 2 Class: Freshman Position: Guard Height: 5-9 Hometown: Lithonia, Georgia Major: Computer Science Highlights: Brian will be a great addition to the Hardrocker basketball team. He has great court-sense and will add depth to the South Dakota School of Mines guards. In his spare time, Brian like to play the trumpet.


Name: Adams Ahmudu, Jr. No. 5 Class: Junior Position: Guard Height: 5-11 Hometown: Houston, Texas Major: Metallurgical Engineering

Highlights: Adams played for St. Thomas Episcopal High School. During his senior year, he was the captain of his varsity team, earned second-team all-state honors and was a top performer at the Senior Showcase held in Texas.

Name: AJ Trennepohl No. 10 Class: Senior Position: Guard Height: 6-3 Hometown: Lubbock, Texas Major: Interdisciplinary Sciences Highlights: Trennepohl is a name many Hardrocker fans should remember. After a two-year hiatus, AJ is back to finish up his basketball career. He has deadly accuracy from the perimeter and will be a leader on the floor for the Hardrockers. In just three seasons, Trennepohl tallied 967 points and racked up 206 three-point goals in 458 attempts. The Interdisciplinary Sciences major has the best three-point percentage in a single game hitting 10 for 10 (100 percent) during the 2007-08 season; and is on pace to own the most three pointers in a career (currently held by Mitch Slusarski with 242).


Name: Stephen Yellowtail No. RS Class: Freshman Position: Forward Height: 6-1 Hometown: Dayton, Wyoming Major: Industrial Engineering Highlights: Stephen was a standout player for the Tongue River High School Eagles. He was named the conference player of the year both as a junior and senior and is also the second alltime scoring leader for the Eagles with 1,411 points in his fouryear career. As a senior he averaged over 19 points a game and over 20 points a contest as a junior. Yellowtail is also a threetime Wyoming All-State and All-Conference honoree (2010-12).

Name: Tyler Schoening No. RS Class: Freshman Position: Forward Height: 6-6 Hometown: Sidney, Nebraska Major: Mechanical Engineering Highlights: Tyler is a 6-foot-6-inch power forward who was a standout player for Sidney High School, leading the Red Raiders to a 15-8 overall record and a run into the Nebraska High School Boys' Basketball Class B playoffs. As a post player, he led Sidney with 11.3 points and 10.3 rebounds a game his senior season. He ranked ninth among area schools in scoring and third in rebounding. Tyler also earned all-conference honors and was selected as an AP all-state boys basketball honorable mention recipient.


Name: Joe Newkirk No. RS Class: Freshman Position: Forward Height: 6-9 Hometown: Layton, Utah Major: Mechanical Engineering Highlights: Joe was a standout player for the Northridge High School Knights where he was a three-year starter and letter winner; a two-time all-region honorable mention recipient; named to the all-region second team; and was the leading rebounder as a junior in all of Utah Class 5A basketball.

Name: Evan Withrow No. RS Class: Freshman Position: Guard Height: 6-4 Hometown: Soldotna, Alaska Major: Metallurgical Engineering Highlights: Evan was a formidable perimeter threat at the high school level. He averaged 14 points, four rebounds and four assists heading into his senior season. He's cashed in for 50 three-pointers in each his sophomore and junior seasons while connecting 43 percent of the time from behind the arch --- including a game in which he went 8-10 from three-point range.


Name: Konor Kulas No. 14 Class: Freshman Position: Forward Height: 6-7 Hometown: Appleton, Wisconsin Major: Industrial Engineering Highlights: Konor helped his Kimberly High School Papermakers to a 17-7 overall record last year. As a senior Kulas averaged 15 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and one block per game. He earned first team all-conference, first team all-area, all-state honorable mention, scored 25 points in his local all-star contest and was selected to play in the Wisconsin State All-Star Game last summer. Kulas also served as captain and was voted team MVP at the conclusion of the season.

Name: Troy Whiteto, III No. 30 Class: Freshman Position: Guard Height: 6-2 Hometown: Los Angeles, California Major: Computer Sciences Highlights: Troy finished his senior year playing for the St. Monica High School Mariners. He averaged 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal per game. He earned allconference honors as a junior and senior, was awarded MVP by his team and was named to the honor roll three consecutive years to name a few accolades.


Name: Lance Kilburn No. RS Class: Senior Position: Guard Height: 6-5 Hometown: Lawrence, Kansas Major: Electrical Engineering Highlights: Lance played in 22 games as a junior and averaged just under 10 points a game last season. He has good touch from the perimeter and his biggest highlight of 2011-12 was giving Colorado Mines (nationally ranked) a run for their money when the two teams met last year. Lance will be redshirting this season and will be back in action for 2013-14 when SD Mines is a full-fledged NCAA Div. II member.


Name: Michael Dietz No. RS Class: Senior Position: Forward Height: 6-7 Hometown: Casper, Wyoming Major: Industrial Engineering Highlights: Michael played in 28 games last season, starting in every contest. He is a very good all-around college basketball player and averaged just over 12 points a game. He can score both inside and out and defensively averaged almost six rebounds each bout. Michael will be redshirting this season and will be a big asset next year when the Hardrockers are officially NCAA Div. II members.
