The South Dakota School of Mines men’s basketball program is happy to announce the addition of Ron Riherd to the Hardrocker coaching staff. Riherd Spent the 2014-2015 seasons as the Rapid City Stevens High School Boys’ Basketball Head Coach. “We are ecstatic to have Coach Riherd join our program with the kind of basketball experience and knowledge that he has,” said Hardrocker men’s basketball head coach Jason Henry. “He is a man that loves the game of basketball almost as much as he loves helping young athletes develop on and off the court.” Riherd retired from teaching in 2008 and began coaching the Stevens High School sophomore boys’ basketball team before taking over as head coach of the Raiders. While he was a teacher, Riherd was the head coach of the Stevens HS girls’ basketball team for 21 years. Riherd’s overall record as a high school basketball head coach at Rapid City Stevens is 288-182 with 15 district championships. Riherd has received many awards and acknowledgments, including: South Dakota Region IV Girls Coach of the Year (1991 & 1994), Region IV Boys Basketball Coach of the Year (2014-2015), and induction to the South Dakota High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2014-15. Riherd spent his collegiate years at the University of South Dakota where he received a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics as well as his master’s in Mathematics. Riherd is a staple in the Rapid City community and there is plenty of excitement around his officially becoming a part of the Hardrocker Family.

Assistant coach: Ron Riherd
