South Dublin and the 1916 Rising in Oral Histories Irish Life and Lore This presentation features interviews conducted by Maurice O’Keeffe during the past few years and in so doing he has ensured the preservation of information which otherwise would have gone to the grave. These recordings which were compiled with the sons, daughters, grandchildren and other close relatives of those central to events at Easter 1916. April 2016 The Humpback Whales of Cape Verde
Two Cities One Book: Dublin 1916
Canola Pictures in association with The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG) will screen the film The Humpback Whales of Cape Verde as part of a unique collaboration with the libraries of Ireland. It is one of a limited number of screenings in libraries around Ireland. Admission is free but on a first come basis. Shot in Ireland, Cape Verde and Malta, The Humpback Whales of Cape Verde follows Dr Simon Berrow and an international team of marine scientists on an ambitious adventure to prove humpback whales from both the northern and southern hemispheres use the Cape Verde archipelago as a breeding ground. Screenings will be followed by Q&A sessions with experts from the IWDG and the film’s director, Tony Whelan. Age/suitability: Adult/Teens Booking Essential
A talk by historian Padraig Yeates Padraig will look at the effects of the Rising on the ordinary lives in the city, including new records from Dublin Military Police. This is part of Dublin City’s Two Cities One Book initiative. Age/suitability: Adult/Teen

April 2016 Songs on Climate Change with Enda Reilly
An Evening with Dick Warner
In this workshop students learn about the causes of Climate Change. Through listening to Enda’s songs and discussing them the students learn about CO2 emissions, fossil fuels, the greenhouse effect, deforestation, alternative green energy sources, polar melting, temperature rise, methane emissions, carbon footprints and energy efficiency at school and in the home, while expressing what they feel about these topics through drawings and discussion. Dick Warner is a writer, broadcaster, documentary-maker and environmentalist and is probably best-known for the series Waterways. Dick worked as a producer for RTE for over twenty years but is now selfemployed and lives, with his wife and two children, on a small-holding in Co Kildare. He grows organic vegetables and keeps poultry and pigs and is partially self-sufficient. April 2016 A Concert to Remember A “Grand Irish Concert” was due to take place in Clondalkin Library on 30th April 1916 in aid of the Clondalkin branch of the Gaelic League. It never happened. Three of the performers were either killed or arrested during the Rising a few days previously. Clondalkin Library will honour the memory of these people with a celebratory concert featuring Irish music, dancing and recitations. The event will be hosted by Ferdia MacAnna. It will take place on Saturday 30th April 2016 – exactly 100 years to the day of the original concert. Art Demonstration with Morgan Gibbs Morgan Gibbs is completely self-taught artist and because of the high quality finish on his pencil drawings received many commissions all by word of mouth. He began using oils in 2008 and never looked back. One of Morgan’s passions and subsequent inspirations for his paintings comes from his love of wildlife. Morgan has been lucky enough to have visited and photographed all seven continents and has seen all of his subjects in their natural habitats, which gives him a unique insight and allows him to capture this in his paintings and drawings. Pain Free Life - my journey to wellness with Andrea Hayes Irish broadcaster and producer Andrea Hayes is well known to the Irish public for her positive, friendly and down-to-earth persona on television and radio. Hidden behind her smile though, is Andrea’s battle with constant chronic pain. After over 20 years of unanswered questions, mis-diagnosis, failed procedures and despair, the diagnosis of a rare neurological disorder, Chiari Malformation 1, in December 2013 set Andrea on a journey of wellness to become an empowered patient. May 2016 Shakespeare400 History of Theatre – Putting Shakespeare into context Working with children aged 9+ we will examine theatre through the ages. Beginning with Greek Theatre and the use of masks, we will then progress to Medieval Miracle Plays and the impact that the Plague had on entertainment! Reaching the Shakespearean era and studying Shakespeare’s compelling characters, his unique storytelling and his ability to achieve such eloquence in his work we will discover why the man is so important and still relevant in the 21st century. June 2016 Illustrators Ireland Exhibition @ Ballyroan Library 13th June to 30th June Illustration: Comics, Covers and Children’s - An exhibition of uniquely imaginative, published illustration from the members of Illustrators Ireland. This creative work focuses on the variety and ingenuity of illustration found in publishing today. The exhibition features the cutting edge of comic book and graphic novel development the delightful interior illustrations for well-loved picturebooks. Illustrators Ireland is a community of professional illustrators working together to actively promote the craft, the art form, that is illustration. Our members offer a wealth of combined experience and amongst those exhibiting we count such illustrators as Kate Greenaway Medalist PJ Lynch, former Laureate na Nóg Niamh Sharkey, and CBI Book of the Year Nominees Steve Simpson and Tatyana Feeney. June 2016 Creative Writing Workshops on 1916 Rising (Based on photographs & images from the time) with Nicola Pierce Nicola Pierce lives in the town of Drogheda in Ireland. Following her many successful ghostwritten books for adults, Nicola published her first book for children, Spirit of the Titanic. The book received rave reviews, and ran to five printings within its first twelve months. City of Fate is her second book for children and transports the reader deep into the Russian city of Stalingrad during World War II. Her Third novel Behind the Walls is based on 1916 Rising.
