Sackville School Sixth Form Prospectus

The Head’s Welcome

Welcome to Sackville School – a wonderful school with a proud tradition, situated idyllically in the Weald of Kent countryside. I am very fortunate to be its Head and am delighted that you are looking at Sackville as a place for your child. At Sackville we offer an inspiring environment for the education of boys and girls in the belief that within every one of them is the talent and potential for excellence waiting to be discovered. We believe that unearthing that talent is the role of every teacher and all of our staff are encouraged to employ inspiring and challenging teaching to bring the best out of our pupils and prepare them for the world – a world which is very different to the world that we, as adults, were prepared for by our teachers. Small class sizes also ensure that we are particularly adept at meeting individual needs and our aim is to nurture happy, well-rounded and successful children. The most important thing about this focus on the individual is that it arises out of a very real sense of family and community. This community is a wide one, encompassing many constituent parts and it is my greatest pleasure to be able to work with pupils, parents, teaching, non-teaching staff and owners; all of whom contribute to make Sackville such a wonderful place to work and study. “I enjoyed my time at Sackville School. As an overseas student, everyone at Sackville gave me a lot help during my time there, teachers gave us a high quality of teaching and always made time to help me with any questions I had. There were also staff dedicated to helping international students. I had a lot of good memories here, learned a lot, and made a lot of friends!” Irina, former student currently studying for a Master’s degree at Warwick University after a first degree in Sociology at York

“Sackville has provided a friendly atmosphere for me to learn in and it has the ability to help International students get involved in the community quickly and easily. Teachers and students are respectful and I feel valued and comfortable. Studying is fun at Sackville. It has provided me with a lot of opportunities to study what I like and students are free to ask questions which are especially important for an International student. As English is not my first language this was a big concern for me. However, the school has provided me with extra learning support which motivated me to study even harder. The work can be difficult but we have the best teachers to guide us to the next stage of study, helping me to experience original British style education both mentally and physically. I plan to study Film Studies at university in the UK and feel I am well placed to succeed in this.” Jinyu Qi, Year 11

In 2012, the ISA Inspector commented, “Pupils are known as individuals; their talents are fostered and they receive the appropriate challenge and support to make the maximum progress in their academic subjects.”
