Our busbars are used in wind turbines, trains, boats and planes as well as for electrical switchgear applications. And with an experienced technical team and a strong design base well established in house, we have the resources and expertise to produce one-off parts or take entire projects through from prototype to volume production.

The new technology associated with the collection and supply of energy is providing further scope for our skills. Current projects with some of the world’s largest OEMs involve supplying specialist busbar components for new high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems. Demanding schemes of this nature also require a deep understanding of supply chain management, particularly materials supply. As experts in this field, we are helping customers switch from copper to lower cost aluminium, providing design assistance as required. The growth of the offshore market presents further opportunities to work proactively with manufacturers seeking to develop solutions to new technological problems.

This ability to interpret general assembly drawings accurately and have parts in production the next day is a real bonus for manufacturers. As is our superb in house metrology facility, equipped with advanced co-ordinate measurement machines (CMMs) and computerised SPC equipment, which ensure we meet the highest standards of component accuracy. Motor laminations, lamination stacks and wound assemblies all start production in our specialist wire erosion unit. Wire erosion really comes into its own for prototyping and testing and with over 25 years of experience to call on, we’re always happy to advise customers on materials and tolerances. Where necessary hard tooling is produced for high volume production. By providing everything from initial samples to full scale production located under one roof, we help our customers stay competitive. Keeping pace with world leading research institutions working in the area of advanced physics isn’t easy. It requires a flexible approach, outstanding prototyping and development skills and a good deal of engineering expertise. Standards are exacting, tolerances are tight, and component quantities are often very small. Helping manufacturers find solutions to specific sector issues has always been one of our strengths. We intend to expand this role, partnering with organisations to develop new technologies. We’re already part of a consortium looking to improve energy collection and distribution, investigating the reliability of energy systems with some of Europe’s largest OEMs. As developments in power electronics put more strain on systems, a new industry is emerging for components and parts. We’re already involved, working on new processes and products, providing proactive ideas for cost savings. Internally, we’re continuing to develop our people, premises and operating systems to meet the challenges of the new technologies. Fine-tuning our innovative buffer management system, which tracks order status, will eventually enable us to achieve our aim of a paperless shop floor and move part of our manufacturing into a high-tech environment.
