Ashford’s day nursery with a little extra
Welcome to Jelly Beans Jelly Beans is a registered day care nursey in Kingsnorth near Ashford. Purpose built to make the most of its generous outside space, our nursery opened in 2000 to provide a safe, healthy and stimulating environment in which children can thrive.

The baby room is warm and inviting; toddler rooms are cheerful and spacious; pre-school rooms are bright and airy… but it’s our outside space that sets us apart.
“Lively conversations can be heard throughout the nursery and staff skillfully extend these by asking open-ended questions.” Ofsted September 2013
Where learning happens… naturally Children love the great outdoors, and Jelly Beans has lots of it! Our huge garden is divided into five areas - a communal area with climbing frame, large sand pit, play house and lots of toys and play equipment, and four smaller gardens (one for each age group) accessed from the individual classrooms and via side gates from the main space. A focused approach Whilst we positively encourage outside play and active learning, Jelly Beans is carefully structured to follow the Early Years Foundation Stage as set out in September 2014. Working within this framework ensures we meet or exceed standards for children’s learning, development and care, whilst assuring parents that care is structured and focused for success. Peace of mind There is ample parking for parents, staff and visitors, so dropping and collecting your child is always safe and stressfree.

We have secure procedures for anyone entering or leaving the nursery whether they are children, staff, parents or visitors. You will always be greeted on arrival, and every child has a key worker who liaises with parents and ensures children are happy and settled in our care.
“The staff are enthusiastic, friendly and very caring in their interactions with children, parents and other visitors.” Ofsted September 2013

Jelly Beans is almost as spacious inside as it is out, with four large classrooms all furnished and decorated for children at different ages and stages of

development. We are particularly proud of our sensory room, a calming and therapeutic space that was designed to encourage development of touch, vision and hearing using special lighting, music and equipment. Staff levels in each room are adjusted daily to meet the needs and the number of children attending, ensuring Ofsted recommended children to staff ratios are upheld.
Baby Room Our baby room provides a safe, warm and nurturing environment where babies are looked after with the utmost care. The room is self-contained with its own milk kitchen and changing area, ensuring babies are secure and attended at all times. Lots of play time, cuddles, singing, stories and walks stimulate sensory development and early language skills, while bright furnishings and age-appropriate toys encourage exploration of shape, colour, texture and sound.
Toddler Rooms Our self-contained toddler rooms are bright, spacious and designed to encourage social interaction and lively play. Painting, singing, messy play, dressing up, role-play and outside games provide lots of opportunities for making friends and making choices – valuable skills for the school years ahead. When the time is right we introduce letters and numbers to games and play sessions, ensuring your toddler is well prepared for the next stage in his or her early years education.

Pre-School Room Our pre-school rooms are designed for structured, positive learning with plenty of opportunities – inside and out – to learn through play. Days are carefully planned with cookery, art, music, crafts, computer studies, drama and other age-related activities to encourage development of a happy, confident and well-rounded child.
…and on to ‘big school’ Jelly Beans works pro-actively with all the local primary schools to smooth the transition to ‘big school’ when the time comes. We invite teachers to come in and meet our PreSchool children, perhaps read them a story and generally put minds at ease at what can be a stressful time.
“The enthusiastic interaction between children and staff significantly enhances children’s enjoyment and extends their learning.” Ofsted September 2013
A ‘whole’ approach to childcare Jelly Beans doesn’t just provide high quality, Ofsted-registered childcare. We aim to nurture each child’s emotional, intellectual and social development, and provide a number of ‘extra curricular’ experiences and activities for your child to enjoy.
Gardening All classrooms have their own garden, so children are actively encouraged to choose and grow their own flowers, fruit and vegetables. A unique part of the whole Jelly Beans learning experience – this is something both our children and staff enjoy! French lessons Once a week a French tutor visits to teach basic French to our pre-school children. Her sessions involve songs, games and lots of lively interactions, igniting a love of learning and a sense of achievement that lays valuable foundations for a happy school career. Talks and discussions Social development is vital during a child’s early years, so we take every opportunity to invite visitors to talk to the children and share their experiences. This stimulates a sense of community and of different social roles, and promotes a broad, balanced view of how the world around us works. Healthy Eating A healthy diet is essential for children in so many ways. Not only does it contribute to their physical development, it encourages good eating habits that can last a lifetime. We are particularly proud of the food we serve at Jelly Beans. All food is fresh, locally sourced and cooked from scratch in our kitchen – and it’s enjoyed by staff and children alike!
