A vibrant, welcoming school community LPGS is a large, heavily oversubscribed school. We have over 1600 students at LPGS and over 100 qualified teachers. They, in turn, are supported by a substantial number of learning support assistants, cover assistants, key workers and other associate staff.

Confident, creative individuals Working with Heads of Year, tutors have major responsibility for the academic progress and personal welfare of each student in their group. Over 70% of our girls stay on into the Sixth Form and well over 70% go on to university, including Oxbridge. We are a uniformed school and we expect our students to conform in all respects to our uniform requirements both in school and on their way to and from school. A separate dress code for Sixth Form students requires that both girls’ and boys’ clothes are suitable for a formal working environment. Our Admissions Policy is available on our website. We’re part of a Multi-Academy Trust with three local primary schools. Cross-phase collaboration is helping us raise achievement.

The school takes a hard-line approach to bullying and students know that their concerns will be taken seriously and treated fairly. Ofsted

Years 7 and 8 an exciting foundation for wider choices The curriculum for Years 7 - 8 includes: English, Mathematics, Science, Technology, ICT, a Modern Language (either French or German in Year 7), History, Geography, Music, Art, Physical Education, Religious Studies, Drama, and Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE).

Academic excellence Students in Year 8 currently take up an additional language, either French, Spanish, or German; Latin and Mandarin are available as enrichment activities at lunchtime or after school. PSHCE underpins students’ learning and development throughout the school, and their progress is further supported by a compulsory homework programme.

LPGS Careers Academy We have our own unique Careers Academy, run by a careers guidance expert. It provides speciďŹ c advice, including one to one support and guidance backed up with seminars, careers days, contact with employers and practice at interviews.

Empowering resources We have a well developed Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) through which all students can access homework, study guides and additional learning resources remotely as well as in school. The Library is a wellused resource area equipped for research work. It is a busy, purposeful environment where all students enjoy a wealth of opportunities to support their learning.

Parents praise ease of communication. The Good Schools Guide

Years 9, 10 and 11 focusing on excellence All students follow a compulsory curriculum leading to GCSE accreditation in the following subjects: English, English Literature, Mathematics, Core and Additional Science (with an intensive offer of the three separate Science GCSEs for the most able scientists), an Art or Technology subject (including ICT) , a Modern Language, and History and/or Geography. Students can also choose additional subjects from a wide range including Dance, Drama, Music, P.E. or Religious Studies. For some girls, there is a choice of vocational courses including Business Communications and Travel and Tourism.

Leading in Science, Technology and the Creative Arts The Science Faculty has a suite of eleven laboratories. Our Technology Block offers students a quality learning experience in six large light workshops equipped with machinery and tools. Exhibitions of students’ work include painting, graphics, ceramics, and artefacts manufactured from resistant materials such as metal, wood and plastic. Visitors and experts are impressed with the high technical and aesthetic quality of clocks, lamps, mechanisms, furniture and mirrors made by students. These have been featured in national design magazines and QCA materials.

Our teachers encourage us to take risks and learn from mistakes. Year 9 student

The Performing Arts fostering creativity and promoting talent Our outstanding Music teachers encourage the development of the musical skills for which the school is renowned. We are proud of the quality of our orchestras, bands, ensembles and choirs and the many splendid solo performances. Major Drama productions are performed in the school hall. Drama clubs held after school attract large numbers of students and reinforce their skills and enthusiasm.

Showcasing talent Dance is available at all three key stages and oered as an exam subject. A variety of evening performances including plays, concerts, musicals and ballets demonstrates the high quality of learning and teaching in Performing Arts. Currently we are fundraising for a new Music Block.

The standard of the Performing Arts productions is good enough for the West End. Parent

The Sixth Form

Large numbers of students, both girls and boys, join our Sixth Form. We have high expectations of our students, encouraging their self-expression and demanding a sense of corporate responsibility. They are fully involved in the life of the school in many ways and are seen as ambassadors for the school. We constantly receive praise for their maturity, intelligence and enthusiasm.

Developing leadership Students have the opportunity to become Sixth Form Prefects. All students in Year 12 participate in enrichment activities, choosing from a range of sports and a variety of other activities, including community service. They are able to present fullyrounded applications to the universities and colleges of their choice, and all are helped to develop further so that they can take up their place with conďŹ dence in an increasingly complex world.
