WELCOME TO

A word from the Headteacher Welcome to Wincheap Foundation Primary School, a friendly, caring school where the children always come first. This is an exciting time for the school as we move forward to further develop our buildings and curriculum, with rich opportunities already on offer in the arts, music, sport and extra-curricular activities, recognised as exceptional by OfSTED. The culture of the school is very child-centred and we aim to strive for excellence, whilst ensuring that our children develop the personal values and qualities that they will need to succeed in life, including those who attend the school because of our designation as a specialist centre for Speech and Language. The environment is welcoming and nurturing, as well as exciting and stimulating and we would encourage you to visit us soon to see the real thing.

We look forward to welcoming you to our school.

OUR SCHOOL

Reception classes and Key Stage One Children joining the school in the reception year usually do so in September The journey starts with a gentle introduction, managed in a way that aims to minimise the anxiety sometimes felt by both parents and children as they begin school. Your child’s early experience will be based on childinitiated activities that enable them to learn through play in an engaging and exciting way. More formal learning opportunities are gradually introduced and by the time the children move into Year 1 they will begin to experience our integrated curriculum based on topics and themes. Transition in to Years 1 and 2 (Key Stage 1) will see your child gradually introduced to a more formal style of learning

DEVELOPING

Key Stage Two and beyond We aim for transition into Key Stage Two (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6) to be seamless with the curriculum continuing to be delivered through themes and topics. We strive to make the learning process exciting and stimulating, with an emphasis on making the content relevant and meaningful. Children leaving the school have the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of secondary school provision. Support from teaching staff means that parents are able to make an informed choice about which school would be more suited to the needs of each individual child.

KNOWLEDGE...

Creativity We work hard to ensure our curriculum is broad and interesting and this is evident in the very rich experiences on offer in music and art, reflected in vibrant displays and a range of exciting learning environments. We are outward looking and take advantage of specialist support from outside of the school, leading to high quality enrichment which helps bring our curriculum to life. We are a well resourced school and the extensive grounds and well maintained buildings, including excellent ICT facilities, support our dedicated and talented staff in their work. We also value the contribution parents make to the school and we encourage their involvement in all aspects of the school’s day-to-day life.
