More than three months into the pandemic Seaford Community Cinema had been looking forward to reopening at the beginning of September.
However, after doing the sums the voluntary organisation realised that even at 1 metre social distancing they would still only be able to admit 30 people to each performance. Then there were the toilets to consider, the bar and the constricted foyer to manage safely. Not only would the cinema lose money but, even more importantly, in chair Paula Ross’s words: ‘Until we can get the ethos of what we are back we don’t want to adopt half measures.’
So it’s likely that the cinema at the Barn Theatre will be reopening in line with other cinemas, probably not until 1st January 2021. Paula added: ‘We want to give all of you the best experience, so can’t see ourselves reopening this year.’
People who have bought tickets for the last season may have their money back or swap them for new winter season films, so hold on to any unused tickets. Paula said: ‘We are obviously reviewing the situation regularly, and if anything changes we will be ready to spring into action. We want you all back, but happy, safe and well.’
