On Monday 25th April 2022, 53 children from the choir at Seaford Primary School travelled to the O2 Arena to join 8,000 other children at a Young Voices massed choir event. What an event it was, with the sound of all those children’s voices performing songs including O Fortuna, medleys from the Lion King and of Beatles’ songs, and the ever-popular Power In Me all interspersed with supporting acts Urban Strides, The Beatbox Collective and solo singers. This was one of 25 Young Voices evenings this year held in Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield and Wembley, as well as at the O2 Arena.
Young Voices was started in 1997, so this year marked its 25th Anniversary. It is an extraordinary task to put this together each year, but is worth it for, as Ben Lewis, CEO of Young Voices says ‘Young Voices has always been about coming together, connecting, celebrating joy and creating those magical memories that leave lasting memories’. Seaford Rotary had received a request from Seaford Primary School to help with the cost of hiring the coaches to take them to the O2 Arena along with children from Chyngton Primary School, which we were pleased to do.

Caravan Cleaning for Children with Cancer Fund
On a very wet Thursday morning we wondered whether it was worth going to St Leonards to clean the Children with Cancer Fund caravan. There had been thunder and lightning overnight and it was still raining heavily at 8am. The forecast, however, looked as though it would clear by mid-morning and since we had already postponed the cleaning operation twice, we decided to go. So, armed with buckets, rags, cleaning materials, brooms and step ladders (for the higher bits) and tea and coffee, past Presidents Martin McGill, Mike Roper, Frank Thompson and Paul Vaesen set forth in two cars to Combe Haven Caravan Park.
Children With Cancer Fund is a charity that we have supported over the years. They do a great job in granting wishes for children and the families of children that have been or are suffering from a form of cancer and they have been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. They have three caravans which they let families use, and we have regularly cleaned one of them, until COVID stopped everything. It is three years since we last cleaned the caravan at Combe Haven, so it required more work than usual this time. We stuck to it, and by 1pm had got it looking pretty good, so we returned home, via a lunch break at The Star at Normans Bay, with the feeling that we’d done a good morning’s work.
