Livestream Services from Seaford Baptist Church

Every cloud has a silver lining as they say. Lockdowns and restrictions have pushed many of us into using technology in a way we may not have intended or imagined. At Seaford Baptist Church we soon realised that in order to keep connection with our congregation and provide spiritual sustenance we would have to ‘go digital’. We are blessed with experts in both sound and vision, and so we made recordings of services in an empty room which were then edited and put onto YouTube, also producing DVDs/CDs for those who don’t have internet access.

We found that views on YouTube regularly reached 200+ and were encouraged to see people watching from different parts of the world. When it became clear that this was not just a shortterm arrangement we decided to invest in the installation of cameras to enable us to livestream. We

went online in November and are gradually adjusting to this new way of ‘doing church’. Again, views are around the 200 mark each week with some watching ‘live’ on Sunday morning and many more viewing the YouTube upload later. We rejoice that we can give spiritual encouragement to even more people than would normally attend a physical service! This will continue even when we

go back to normal gatherings. It is also a blessing to those who cannot leave home because of infirmity. All are welcome to join the livestream – visit:: https:// www.youtube.com Seaford Baptist Church UK.. We want to share this benefit with others and so when buildings can open up and gatherings can happen again, Seaford Baptist Church will be available not just for hire but also for the livestream facility so your organisation can share your event with more people. SeAFord STAMP & PoST CArd ClUB

Many members of the Seaford Stamp & Post Card Club collect stamps or post cards based on an interest they have. One such subject is Railways and in particular Trains. This type of collecting is called thematic collecting.

Most countries with railway systems have issued stamps featuring trains but the first to do so was Canada when in 1860 New Brunswick issued a 1c lilac celebrating the opening of their railway. Post Offices around the world soon learnt that pictorial stamps were a source of income for them over and above the normal postage revenue. Thus was created thematic philately.

Belgium is a good country to start with. They largely based their parcel service on the railway network and as early as1879 had their own stamps. In 1915 a new issue featured railway locomotives. They continued with stamps showing a wide range of engines, both steam and diesel, also station buildings and railway landscapes.

Across the Atlantic many countries in North and South America have early examples of stamps featuring locomotives: the USA and Peru being early in the field. Despite the stamps that were produced around the world, Great Britain only produced its first set of stamps bearing trains in 1975 to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the introduction of Public Railways. Various issues followed, making up for lost time. Other anniversaries were subsequently recorded with sets featuring classic locomotives, events such as the opening of the Channel Tunnel, and Thomas the Tank Engine. Collectors can expand their hobby by also adding technical details of the locomotives, route maps, timetables, train tickets and other related information to present their collection in a more interesting way.

If you have never collected stamps or post cards, it does not prevent you visiting the Club and finding ways of expanding an existing interest that you have. We meet (in normal times) on the second Wednesday each month at the Seaford & District Constitutional Club at 7pm.

Call our Secretary David Manthorpe on 01323 492433 for further details about the club or the arranged programme for 2021. Meetings will recommence as soon as COVID restrictions allow.
