This award was intended, not for the best cricket player, but for the young cricketer who had contributed most to the club and to the community. The award was a trophy (a shield) plus cash to pay for his or her membership for a year and some cricket equipment.

The three-year period finished in 2021 (there was no award in 2020 due to COVID), and so we were asked again if we would sponsor the award for a further three years, including the purchase of a new trophy, which we agreed to do.

President Ann Reed, accompanied by the Chair of Youth Services, Paul Vaesen, therefore went to Seaford Cricket Club at The Salts on Friday 2nd September to present our award as part of the Cricket Club’s annual awards evening.

Before the award was presented, Paul Vaesen said a few words about the many ways that Seaford Rotary runs projects to encourage youngsters in the town, and drew special attention to a new award, the Philip Moorey Award for Young Citizen of the Year. This year there were two recipients, a boy and a girl, Riley Street and Elpi Hussain, both of whom had contributed
