SSI Deep Diving Speciality with Seahawks SCUBA The adventurous mind and curiosity to explore more make a few people do such things, which is not the cup of tea for everyone. If you are one of a few people wondering what is there under the deep blue ocean, You should probably sign up for the SSI deep diving speciality. Besides preparing you to dive at a depth of 30 meters underwater, this course enhances your diving ability with extensive knowledge as well as practical skills too.

The SSI deep diving speciality course takes 2 days with a little academic session, skills practice, planning deep dives and 2 open water dives in the ocean. One should be at least a certified open water diver with minimum having 6 log dives to start the deep diving speciality course. It is highly recommended to get your personal dive computer before you start your course even if we do provide, because you should not share a dive computer with anybody else during deep sea diving in Andaman.

How we conduct deep diving speciality We keep the first day to develop your knowledge which plays a crucial role for deep diving such as effectively using a dive computer, using navigation techniques, launching of surface marker buoy, planning multi level diving, requirement of safety stop, calculation 1/5

of air consumption as well as refreshing your diving skills in a confined water session required for deep diving. The ultimate key to a successful deep dive is proper planning and dive according to the plan.

The dive computer and its functions Nowadays the dive computer looks like a smart watch and keeps you well informed about your current depth, bottom time at that depth, increased ascend rate indication, safety stop indication and a few more information during the real dive. This handy information lets you change your depth and avoid decompression sickness. It does calculate the level of dissolved nitrogen in our body and gives you accurate data about how long you should rest as surface interval between the deep dives and how long you should wait to fly after your scuba diving in Havelock.

Assistance of navigation in deep diving The sunlight gets absorbed between 15 to 20 meters and everything appears bluish at depth. Using a compass and a few natural navigation techniques help us to find the ascend line so that we can end our dive as per the plan. There are a few factors which suddenly make the visibility close to nil and it remains temporarily. The compass is the only option then to find your way out and come to the ascend line.

Planning multi level diving A fit human being normally breathes 35 litres of air per minute at the surface where the absolute pressure is 1 bar. As the depth and absolute pressure increase parallel, it causes increased air consumption and high levels of nitrogen in our body too. To avoid risk of nitrogen narcosis as well as decompression sickness we need to change our depth to a shallower level and that lets us have a longer dive time too.

Requirement of safety stop Safety stop is also called decompression stop, it is required to eliminate excess nitrogen from our body. We usually stop by at a depth of 5 meters for 3 to 5 minutes while ascending so that we can avoid decompression sickness. Do not ascend faster than 9 meters per minute and never miss a safety stop while deep diving.

Launching of surface marker buoy ( SMB ) After completing the safety stop, you should launch the SMB to let the boat crew know that you are about to surface. SMB ensures that the dive boats are not close enough to you and you can come up safely. Your instructor teaches you how to launch the SMB during the confined water session and you should master the skill by repetitive practise before launching SMB on your own.

We plan to keep both the deep dives on the second day at the two famous dive sites of Southeast Asia to give you the best scuba diving in Andaman. We do have 10 deep dive sites which you can choose to dive after your speciality course. The well known sites are Jackson’s Bar,Johnny’s Gorge, Dickson’s Pinnacles, The Wall, Broken Ledge, White House Rock, Barracuda city, I95, M4 and South button.

Your instructor and you both prepare a safe and effective dive plan at the beginning of the day. You should perform a pre-dive safety check to ensure every part of your equipment is working fine before you get into the dive boat. Don’t forget to carry your dive computer, dive knife and compass. It is recommended to carry a U/V flashlight to see the original colours of the soft corals at depth.

During the dive your instructor shows you how the increasing pressure affects a broken egg for example as well as on our body. He/she shows you how the colours of sunlight disappear with the changing depth and how the dive computer shows you the bottom time as per your current depth. Do not exceed the recommended and recreational depth limit of 30 meters. Keep following the given instructions, the dive plan and general safety procedure to have a wonderful experience of scuba in Andaman.

Your instructor debriefs you with the nicest things you have done and the potential improvisations you should apply to sharpen your diving ability. He/she does give you some safe diving tricks which you should try in the next dives. Your instructor fills you with the knowledge about marine life and how the whole ecosystem works. Scuba diving in Andaman priceis reasonably cheaper and affordable for multi day diving than anywhere else. You should plan your diving holidays here with at least 4 days of scuba diving to cover all the best sites. You will find the best caring, friendly, humble and experienced instructors during your diving days for sure in the islands.
