one stop shop for offshore corrosion prevention & thermal insulation
Cooperation STOPAQ and BASF: One Stop Shop
STOPAQ Offshore, a subdivision of STOPAQ B.V. and BASF Polyurethanes, are joining forces in the offshore industry. Both companies operate within the offshore industry providing innovative solutions for coating field joints and related subsea structures. STOPAQ and BASF have an excellent longstanding reputation, history and track record in the offshore industry. To better cater to the needs of their customers, the two companies are now forming a marketing alliance to offer a one stop shop for the entire corrosion prevention package and mechanical protection/ thermal insulation. This will offer you an end-to-end service in the protection of your valuable infrastructural assets.

The power of our cooperation • Efficient, easy and worker-friendly application of materials; • Shorter time cycle for the entire coating process, including surface preparation; • Excellent compatibility between Polyurethanes and STOPAQ; • Outstanding anti-corrosion properties which prevent hydrolysis and Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC), the greatest threat to piping systems as common inhabitants in the environment; • Anti-corrosion materials allowing a wide range of Polyurethane infill systems, i.e. solids and foams.

What are the benefits of cooperation for you? The coating system can be tailor-made for each project, and easily applied. Furthermore, it also allows a quicker preparation of steel and adjacent factory applied coating by at least St2/3 brushing method, cold application of the visco-elastic anti-corrosion layer and immediate and permanent attachment of the impermeable visco-elastic layer to steel, concrete, polypropylene, polyurethanes and polyethylene. There is no risk of osmosis. Besides, it prevents air enclosures under the anti-corrosion layer as well as cathodic disbondment, and has proven its resistance to Prevention of hydrolysis and Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC);

STOPAQ & BASF The offshore world requires advanced corrosion prevention and insulation systems. Corrosion processes can severe and pipe rupture may occur. Hard and tough coatings may break. Very low PH (2-3) electrolyte solutions can cause CUI. Other chemical reactions and or moisture/water penetration must be prevented at great depths. Harsh conditions are not difficult for us. Lay-barge vessels, platforms, pontons, ships and offshore oil and gas pipelines demand –no looking back– solutions to last. STOPAQ and BASF have joined their forces for the offshore industry. Polyurethanes (foam and solid) are heavily used in the industry for thermal insulation and joint infill. Some barriers to overcome are the adhesion factor to other materials and hydrolysis. The market today is asking for safe, easy and quick solutions to last forever. Without having to worry about disbondment, adhesion problems, flexibility, abrasion, compatibility, impact resistance and stability of the system. The result of combining STOPAQ’s visco-elastic corrosion prevention layer with BASF’s PU is a cost effective solution delivering long term protection against corrosion by locking out negative influences. We see stopping corrosion as our common mission now. Via our system, we can offer you more control in all process steps from preparation, application and control beyond design life.

Pipelines and platforms need to be safe constructions – for people and for the environment. STOPAQ can seal spools, under insulation, under fire proofing, J-tube filling, flanges, risers, christmas trees, pp-coating repair, pipe joints, subsea repair, piles(splash zone). STOPAQ and BASF solutions can be found on many important offshore installations. STOPAQ/BASF now look to offer fully integrated solutions, including advice on surface preparation on board of lay barge vessels. The joint system offers a simplified fast turnaround job. Mechanical protection is ensured by using tapes, shrinkable sleeves or PU infill.

The combination of materials has the capability to conform around off centered or unusual pipe configurations. Some of the system advantages are: • Increasing the speed of application • Eliminating the need of flame torch • No need for primers • Cost effective reduces inventory requirements eliminating diameter specific solutions • Excellent impact resistance • Cold flow; providing corrosion protection by penetrating into the finest pores of the substrate • Very surface tolerant; no grit blasting, only wire brushing or hand tool cleaning required
Application benefits • No flame work • No preheating of the surface • 100% compatibility with PE,PP, FBE (STOPAQ) • Minimal surface preparation • Higher impact resistance when laying pipes • No cathodic disbondment (STOPAQ) • No Microbiological corrosion • No CUI possible • Quicker cooling of Polyurethane • Faster installation time • Cost savings • Easy to apply • Not hotwork permit needed
