ELASTO-QOTE® PU PRIMER Application Instruction: Surface Preparation Concrete Product Information

General

Product description: Elasto-Qote® PU PRIMER is a solvent-free single-component surface tolerant penetrating primer for steel and concrete substrates. Elasto-Qote® PU PRIMER cures by moisture absorption from the environment and can be used as primer for one-and two-component Polyurethane, Polyurea and PU/Hybrid based elastomeric systems to improve adhesion on steel and concrete substrates, but also as bonding primer for Elasto-Qote® TOPCOAT on top of Elasto-Qote® polyurethane and polyurea elastomers when a UV resistant and colour retentive topcoat is required. Features:  100% Solids Polyurethane  No VOC  One-component product, ready to use  Excellent adhesion on Elasto-Qote® elastomers  Excellent adhesion on carbon-and stainless steel  Excellent adhesion on dry and damp concrete, mineral plaster and render  Can be used as primer on concrete with <8% residual moisture  Low viscosity product for good substrate penetration and fixation  Service temperature (dry) from -40 up to 130°C (-40 up to 266˚F)  Can be applied from 5 up to 35˚C (41 up to 95˚F)

Application examples Application: moisture tolerant primer underneath Elasto-Qote® elastomeric systems on steel and concrete substrates and adhesion promoting primer on top of Elasto-Qote® elastomeric systems for ElastoQote® TOPCOAT.

Preventing condensation on the substrate Abrasive Blasting Recommended Surface Profile

The area to be coated has to be clean, dry and free from oil, grease and dust. All contamination that could interfere with the adhesion of the coating has to be removed according to SSPCSP1. Prior and during the surface preparation, the temperature of the substrate(s) must be at least 5˚F (3˚C) above the dew point. Minimum Sa2½ (SSPC-SP10/ NACE2) . 2.5-3mils (62.5-75micron) angular profile.

Old PU/Polyurea

The area to be coated has to be clean, dry and free from oil, grease and dust. All contamination that could interfere with the adhesion of the coating has to be removed according to SSPCSP1. Prior and during the surface preparation, the temperature of the substrate(s) must be at least 5˚F (3˚C) above the dew point. The Elasto-Qote® PU PRIMER can be applied <12 hours after finishing the application of the PU/Polyurea without preparation. Surface must be abraded with a slow rotating grinding machine. Use sanding paper No. 24

Application Safety General

General Product Information Colour Finish Primer Dry Film Thickness Coverage Rate (theoretical)

Concrete must be cured to at least a maximum residual moisture content of 8%. The area to be coated has to be clean, dry and free from oil, grease and dust. All contamination that could interfere with the adhesion of the coating has to be removed according to SSPC-SP1 or equal. Leaks and water infiltrations must be eliminated. Remove free-standing water, repair excessive cracks and resurface exposed aggregate and small voids with a suitable high-strength, fast curing, non-shrinking product. Consult Concrete Application Guide. Prior and during the surface preparation, the temperature of the substrate(s) must be at least 5˚F (3˚C) above the dew point. CSP 4-6. Do not overblast the concrete.

Read the Product Data Sheet and follow the caution statements on the Material Safety Data Sheet. Personnel who will come into contact with the product should be using appropriate protection equipment. Follow national safety guidelines

Application Instruction: Squeegee and Roller Step 1 Step 2

Note

Mix the product until uniform in colour and consistency. Do not dilute the product. After mixing, apply the product by using a flat squeegee or a good quality paint roller. Apply in one uniform layer to thoroughly wet and seal the substrate. Although application by squeegee and roller is preferred, the product can be sprayed by Airless equipment. Consult Elasto-Qote® for specific information. Elasto-Qote® PU PRIMER must be tack-free before topcoating with Elasto-Qote® TOPCOAT or with any of our Elasto-Coat® Polyurethane, Polyurea or PU/Hybrid elastomers.

Repair

The finished coating must be visually inspected for any defects, such as runs and sags, fisheyes, blistering, pinholes, missed spots and possible contaminants. Pinhole/Holiday detection must be generated according to NACE SP0188 (for steel substrates only). The coating thickness (DFT) must be within the specified DFT range. Use calibrated equipment and measure according to SSPC-PA 2 or other specified standard. Pinholes/Holidays must be located and repaired with approved material. Consult Elasto-Qote® for specific information.

Cleaning Cleanup

Use MEK or Acetone.
