Nature, Wildlife & Heritage Attractions Work alongside the Giant Panda Keeper at the Adelaide Zoo, preparing bamboo and treats for Wang Wang & Funi, the only Giant Pandas in the southern hemisphere. Visit Mt Lofty for splendid views over the city to the coastline and Cleland Wildlife Park to cuddle a koala, feed the kangaroos and see wombats, emus, dingoes and other native fauna. Take a guided tour of the magnificent outback and explore places such as Wilpena Pound, Flinders Ranges National Park and the famous Prairie Hotel at Parachilna.

Experience the plethora of cellars doors in the Barossa, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley and Coonawarra regions. Taste the amazing bounty available on the Eyre Peninsula Seafood & Aquaculture Trail. Enjoy a progressive picnic following one of the Cheese & Wine Trails, where regional cheeses are handpicked for you, to suit specific wines available at cellar doors.

03

Indulge in a Twilight Tour and Dinner at the Penfold’s Magill Estate & Restaurant. The tour is followed by an amazing 5-course degustation dining experience.

melbourne self drive Driving from Melbourne – Suggested Itinerary 6 Days Day 1: Melbourne to Apollo Bay Depart Melbourne and begin your day in Geelong. The waterfront has plenty of fine restaurants and a yacht club marina. Head west onto the Great Ocean Road, visiting the famous surfing towns of Torquay and Bells Beach. Explore the beach town of Lorne. Further west, Apollo Bay is a quiet fishing village and the gateway to the Otway National Park. Melbourne to Apollo Bay: 190km, 2 hours 40 minutes Accommodation suggestion:

Day 3: Port Fairy to Penola Follow the coastline into South Australia and the Southern Rock Lobster capital of Australia – Port Macdonnell. Then travel on to Mount Gambier and see the mysterious Blue Lake that changes colour from blue-grey to cobalt blue between November and March each year. Explore Umpherston Sinkhole and Englebrecht Cave beneath the city’s streets. Continue north towards the historic town of Penola in the world-famous Coonawarra wine district. An overnight stay here is highly recommended, with numerous B&Bs and more than 20 cellar doors to visit. A walk along Petticoat Lane and a visit to the Blessed Mary MacKillop Centre (on her way to becoming Australia’s first saint) are also worth a visit.

• Seafarer’s Getaway, Apollo Bay • Beacon Point Ocean View Villas, Apollo Bay

Port Fairy to Penola: 290km, 3 hours 30 minutes

Day 2: Apollo Bay to Port Fairy (or Warrnambool)

• Merlot & Verdelho, Penola

Briefly leave the coast to drive through the Otway Ranges. Stop and walk through the beautiful garden of huge ferns rainforest trees at Maits Rest. Back on the coast road, see the magnificent Twelve Apostles, the world-famous giant rock stacks that rise majestically from the Southern Ocean. Visit Logan Beach between May and October to see Southern Right Whales and step back in time in Port Fairy with its old white-washed cottages, quaint shops and a pub on nearly every corner.

Apollo Bay to Port Fairy: 150km, 2 hours 40 minutes Accommodation suggestion: • Seacombe House, Port Fairy • Sebel Deep Blue, Warrnambool

Accommodation Suggestion:

Travel from Penola to the pretty seaside town of Robe via Naracoorte and on the way explore the labyrinth of caverns and amazing fossil beds that make up the Naracoorte World Heritage-listed fossil site. You can even go adventure caving! Enjoy a heritage walk though the centre of Robe, stroll along a stunning 17 mile beach or swim in the pristine waters of Guichen Bay. Robe, one of South Australia’s oldest and first established sea ports, is also famous for its crayfish, so be sure to enjoy this delicious treat if travelling between October and April. Penola to Robe (via Naracoorte): 91km, 1 hour 10 minutes Accommodation Suggestion: • Lakeview Motel and Apartments, Robe • Robe House Bed & Breakfast, Robe Day 5: Robe to Victor Harbor (or go directly on to Adelaide) From Robe the highway skirts along the Coorong, a 142 km tapestry of lagoons, wetlands and sand dunes that end at the mouth of the Murray River. Checkout the turn offs to lookouts and walking trails to see the beauty of the Coorong, pelican rookeries and wetland walks. Once you cross the river at Wellington you’re on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Follow your nose to the wineries of Langhorne Creek and explore the antique and craft stores of Strathalbyn. In Goolwa, take a cruise to discover more of the wonders of the Coorong with its abundant bird life, rolling sand dunes and fascinating Aboriginal sites. Stop for a walk around the foreshore at Port Elliot before arriving in Victor Harbor, where you can take a horse drawn tram tour at dusk to Granite Island to see the Little Penguins.
