Take the scenic drive along the Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jervis either in your own car or on a SeaLink Connection coach to catch the SeaLink ferry to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. (If you don’t have your own car, we can arrange a hire car on arrival). You’re now set to explore! Spend time looking around the delightful town of Penneshaw before heading west towards Kingscote.
Take the scenic drive along the Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jervis either in your own car or on a SeaLink Connection coach to catch the SeaLink ferry to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. (If you don’t have your own car, we can arrange a hire car on arrival). You’re now set to go and we suggest you head to Prospect Hill and climb the 512 steps for the most amazing views of the island. Cool off in the stunning blue waters of nearby Island Beach with its pristine white sandy beach – sure to refresh your spirits!
Take a short diversion off the main road to American River, a quiet, friendly fishing village nestled on a hillside in native bushland and a bird-watching paradise! When you reach Kingscote you may be interested in soaking up some fun on a Kangaroo Island Marine Tour where you can swim with dolphins or enjoy a snorkelling adventure. We suggest you do book ahead though. There’s also plenty to see and do in and around Kingscote and the KI Penguin Centre offers evening penguin tours. Don’t forget to pre-purchase your National Parks Pass which allows you unlimited access to Seal Bay guided tours, Kelly Hill Show Cave tour, Flinders Chase National Park and Lightstation tours at Cape Borda and Cape Willoughby.
Next, head to Vivonne Bay on the south coast and visit Kangaroo Island Outdoor Action for the thrill and excitement of sand boarding down the enormous, white sand hills of Little Sahara. Afterwards, take a guided quad bike tour of the 500-acre property and witness amazing coastal scenery. If you haven’t crammed enough adventure into your day, there’s surfing and kayaking too, or head to Kelly Hill Caves for some adventure caving! Best to pre-book all of these activities with us. Day Two
Day Two Today is the day to make use of your National Parks Pass. We suggest you make your way early to Flinders Chase National Park to the breathtaking Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch and Cape du Couedic Lightstation. Call into the award winning Flinders Chase Visitor Centre as well with its life-size murals of megafauna to computer touch screens and touch tables. Relax in the café and browse through the souvenirs. There are plenty of walks and hiking tracks available in the Park as well. Stop off at Hanson Bay Sanctuary and marvel at the number of Koalas seen along the Koala Walk. Slow the pace down this morning with a drive through Flinders Chase National Park and visit Admiral’s Arch and see the playful colony of New Zealand fur seals. Be amazed by the incredible rock formations at Remarkable Rocks and take the Weirs Cove Hike (3kms) from Cape du Couedic Lightstation to appreciate the life of a light keeper! Stop off for a light lunch at the Flinders Chase Café and Visitor Centre on your way out of the Park. Pick up the pace this afternoon and retrace your steps, this time from the air! Take a once in a lifetime helicopter flight over Remarkable Rocks with Heli-Experiences leaving from Hanson Bay (must be pre-booked). Drive on through to picture perfect coastline and beaches of the north coast and beaches to Stokes Bay. Once there, park the car and follow the signs to the ‘Beach’. Make your way through the headland of boulders where you’ll find a fine, white beach surrounded by cliffs and a safe swimming spot for the whole family. Day Three Kangaroo Island is well known for its abundance of seafood. Impress your friends and family and take a feed of fish home! We suggest you take a half-day with Cooinda Fishing Charters on their 13 metre cruiser, from American River. With your catch in your cooler (esky), head east to Penneshaw for your return ferry journey home. If time permits, stop off at Sunset Winery on the way for a tasting platter and incredible views over Eastern Cove. A wonderful finish to 3 amazing days on Kangaroo Island!

Itinerary 3: Food & Wine Lovers Day One Start your indulgent weekend with a scenic drive along the Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jervis either in your own car or on a SeaLink Connection coach and board the SeaLink ferry to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. (If you don’t have your own car, we can arrange a hire car on arrival). We suggest you head to Kingscote with a stop at KI Spirits on the way for a little heart starter! A local KI couple have an amazing little business where they are distilling flavoured spirits that are great for cocktails! When in Kingscote, check out the art galleries where you will be impressed by the local work of Kangaroo Island artists. Visit Ferguson’s Australia on the way in to Kingscote to purchase sumptuous Kangaroo Island seafood including their specialty – lobster! There are a choice of cafes and restaurants such as the Aurora Ozone Bistro overlooking Nepean Bay, Bella’s Restaurant or Rogers Deli in the main street. This afternoon, go wine tasting at the Bay of Shoals Winery, located just a few minutes out of Kingscote.
Day Three Today we suggest a day of visiting a few of the cellar doors that are appearing around Kangaroo Island and in particular on the Dudley Peninsula. Firstly, start with a morning tea (with some wine tasting of course at the Dudley Cellar Door and Café right in the heart of Penneshaw before heading off to visit the MB Stoner Art Glass and Silk Studio specialising in one off pieces including scent bottles, sculptural pieces, jewellery and beads. Then make your way to the Cape Willoughby Lighthouse for a guided tour and a step back in time. Then it’s onto the unique Chapman River Cellar Door for wine tasting and a delicious antipasto platter. Top your afternoon off before your ferry cruise back to the mainland with a visit to the Sunset Winery and its stunning location on the hillside overlooking Eastern Cove. We just know you won’t want to leave! Note: These 3 itineraries are suggested itineraries only. You may wish to try to do all of the activities, or just some of them. Refer pages 6 – 11 for accommodation to suit the locations suggested in these itineraries.
We suggest an afternoon visit to Island Pure Sheep Dairy to view the sheep milking session followed by tastings of the delightful Mediterranean style cheeses and yoghurts. Taste the local organic honey and learn about the famous Ligurian Bee at Island Beehive. Later tonight, we suggest taking an evening penguin tour at the KI Penguin Centre in Kingscote. You’ll be delighted to by the Little Fairy Penguin colony that lives here and it will be a great end to your day. Day Two No trip to Kangaroo Island is complete without a visit to Seal Bay Conservation Park for a guided beach walk amongst the colony of wild Australian sealions – an amazing experience! We suggest a morning visit to Seal Bay, followed by a visit to Rustic Blue Gallery (seasonal).

Then travel Andermel Marron Farm and Café and Two Wheeler Creek Wines (a great 3 in 1 venue!). The Café serves a great seafood platter with freshwater marron being their speciality – of course! Live marron can be viewed in their tanks and are also available for purchase, either live, cooked or pickled! The cellar door is open for wine sales and tastings – a great way to spend an afternoon! Later this afternoon, travel to Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery for the unique experience of seeing this fully functioning distillery produce a truly Australian product. Visit Clifford’s Honey Farm to learn more about the famous Ligurian Bee and for tastings and purchases. If time permits, detour to American River and purchase farm fresh free-range eggs from a roadside stall, or if it’s oyster season (April – December) go to the wharf and purchase yourself some fresh KI oysters! Head on to Penneshaw where we suggest you have dinner at the award winning Sorrento’s Restaurant at the KI Seafront Resort.
