Tigers lean on experience, look to playoffs By JASON GUILBEAU Sports Writer
The 2012 Sealy varsity football team enters the season ranked No. 19 in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football 3A poll, but in Texas high school football the purest form of competition is still used to crown the champion, the playoffs where everything is decided on the field objectively. This year’s Tigers have 19 lettermen returning after 16 of the Tigers from last season’s team graduated in May. Of the returning lettermen, eight are returning offensive starters and the defense has six starters returning from the 2011 team, which finished the 2011 season as district champions with an 8-3 overall record, 4-0 in district. However, the Tigers suffered a heartbreaking loss to Navasota for the second year in a row during the Bi-District playoff game last November in Waller.
OFFENSE In previous years, the Tiger offensive scheme has been the spread offense out of a shotgun formation. This year the Tigers will still run the spread, but they will also be incorporating different formations into the mix by lining the quarterback under center some of the time, utilizing a tight end and using the "I" formation at times. “This year we will still use the spread offense, but we will mix up our offense more to utilize our talent at different positions,” Mitchell said. “This will give opposing defenses more they have to defend against by spreading our various threats around the field.” The Tiger offense is poised to be explosive with the talented multithreat Ricky Seals-Jones at several positions, fast and powerful Jowan Davis at running back, the poise in the backfield of Adam Viertel, shifty
and elusive Kris Brown at receiver, Byron Simpson at tight end and receiver over the middle and a seasoned offensive line. Viertel will be lining up at quarterback for Sealy this year, along with playing halfback and receiver as he has in the past. Viertel has a solid arm and, along with being poised in the pocket, he can also tuck the ball and utilize his skills as a receiver to run for yardage when the situation dictates. Seals-Jones will also be at quarterback again for the Tigers. He is the nation’s top college prospect at wide receiver, but since he is such a dangerous threat to opposing teams from anywhere on the field, he will be utilized at different spots on offense in addition to his duties as a signal caller. In 2011, Seals-Jones had 1,245 yards on the ground, 761 yards passing and 178 yards receiving for 24 total touchdowns. Davis, who is committed to play for Rice University in 2013, will once again be at running back for the Tigers this season. Last season he rushed for 1,167 yards on 179 carries for an average of 6.5 yards per carry in nine regular season games. He scored 20 rushing touchdowns in addition to 133 yards receiving on 12 receptions for an average of 11 yards per catch with two receptions for touchdowns. Look for Davis to have an even bigger impact and post even higher numbers in the 2012 season. “Jowan has a solid work ethic and he knows how to make plays and does what it takes to put the ball across the goal line to win ball games,” Mitchell said. Seals-Jones' ability to make plays, imposing stature, speed and competitive instincts will give opposing coaches terrible headaches all season. His ability to catch difficult passes with his skill and size, along with his knack for gaining yards on the

Simpson, a receiver with imposing size, will be dangerous over the middle using his size to secure tough passes and pick up valuable yards after the catch. In addition to lining up at receiver, Simpson’s size will also be utilized at the tight end spot

elusive receiver who can get downfield fast and can also find seams across the middle. Brown is one of the team's fastest players and can be extremely explosive on offense. When the Tigers need a score, in pressure situations, look for Brown to answer the call. Viertel will be on the field in the halfback spot and receiver when he is not lined up at quarterback. Last year, Viertel was Sealy’s halfback where he went in motion quite a bit, blocked well for the backfield and caught several passes in short yardage situations. Jordan Conner, Denver Lake, Trey Jennings, Tyler Eckhardt and Jake Miller will also be rotating in at receiver for the Tigers, making it one of the deepest positions on the Tiger depth chart. The Tiger offensive line is returning most of its starters from 2011. Jonathan Whitmore will most likely be lining up at center. Whitmore battled injury during a significant part of the 2011 season and his return will be a big lift for the Tiger line. Collin Einkauf, Cesar Robles and Dalton Prihoda will be rotating in at guard to open up holes for the Tiger running game and give the quarterbacks time in the pocket to find open receivers downfield. Austin Pratt, Dalton Luttrell and George Villagomez will be rotating at the tackle spot to anchor the offensive line. All three have good size and experience with Pratt being one of the best linemen in the district.

The Tigers will once again utilize the 4-2-5 as their base defense. It is designed for fast and agile skill players in the secondary who can match offensive alignments, cover the pass and put pressure on the run. With the speed Sealy’s skill players have, along with the strength of the defensive line, the 4-2-5 alignment is a scheme that has been successful for them in the past, and this year’s Tiger team is showing that they utilize it with great skill and can shut opposing offenses down, living up to their reputation as the “Black-Out Crew.” The Tigers have found good personnel fits at defensive end including Cody Burttschell, who did a great job bottling up the run and putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks in 2011. Joining Burttschell will be Brent Langford, Blake Weido and Trey Jennings, who possess the necessary size and skill the Tiger coaches look for to contain the run and apply

pass pressure from the defensive end spot. At the defensive tackle spots Austin Pratt and Max Medrano are back from successful seasons last year. Joining Pratt and Medrano will be Austin Hardmon and Sam Wilson, who had solid years in the sub-varsity levels last year and have worked hard to help give the Tigers more depth at defensive line. “Coach J.R. Mitchell is a genius when it comes to running our defense. He knows exactly how to game plan for every offense we see,” Pratt said. “The line stunts and blitzing schemes he mixes in confuse opposing offense to the point that they don’t even know what’s hit them.” The Tigers took a big hit at linebacker in the off-season with Myke Chatman and Zach Konieczny both graduating after an outstanding senior season. In order to fill in the linebacker spots the Tigers are again looking at a committee of players for the answer. Josh Oldag, Seth Hill, TJ Theriot, Alex Avalos and Kolbe Parker all have the necessary skills and awareness of the game to garner looks from the coaches to see who will become the main Tiger linebackers in 2012. At cornerback the Tigers have Tyler Eckhardt returning after he won a spot at cornerback as a sophomore last season. Joining Eckhardt at corner will be Denver Lake, Zach Pleasant and Christian Wallace, who will be rotating at the two corner spots. “We have several guys who will get looks at corner,” Mitchell said of the cornerback status. “Obviously, Eckhardt is back from a pretty good year and we have three other guys who will be battling for a spot in the first part of the season.” The safety positions are once again a point of great strength and experience for the Tiger defense with the blue chip Seals-Jones roaming the field for the Tigers to stop runs and make interceptions at free safety. Brown will utilize his speed and tenacity to help the linebackers stop the run and assist the rest of the secondary in pass coverage at weak safety. Backing up both Seals-Jones and Brown will be Darius Wyatt and Holten Einkauf, who are two of Sealy’s younger and talented multiposition players. At strong safety Davis, De'Andre Cardell and Jordan Eckhardt will be rotating in to give the Tigers fresh legs in the secondary.
SPECIAL TEAMS Erik Hernandez is back as the
Tiger’s placekicker this year. He had a great year last season after making the transition to football from a soccer-only background. He had a long run without missing an extra point last season and has hit field goals in practice this year from 40-plus yards. Viertel will be handling the punting duties for the Tigers this season following the graduation of last year’s punter and “jack of all trades,” Ryan Klepser. Brown, whose speed at receiver and safety tremendously help the Tigers on both sides of the ball, will also use his skill set to help the Tigers get the best field position possible on special teams to give the offense a better shot at scoring.

Lady Cougars aiming to better past success By JASON GUILBEAU Sports Writer
In Denyse Fernandez’s first year as head volleyball coach in 2008, the Brazos volleyball team reached the 2A state final, but fell in four sets to Bushland. In her fifth season, Fernandez wants to see her team not only reach that benchmark, but surpass it. The team is in a new district this year and will face Rice, Boling, East Bernard, Van Cleck, Danbury and Hitchcock, in addition to tough nondistrict opponents Bellville, Sweeny and Anderson Shiro. Although the Brazos volleyball team is an extremely young squad, they will have the expe-
rience of a coach who has reached the highest levels of the Texas volleyball world. Seasoned Brazos Cougars look to improve record By JASON GUILBEAU Sports Writer
This year’s Brazos Cougar varsity football team worked extremely hard in the off-season to improve on last year’s 2-8 overall record. In 2011, the varsity cougars faced several tough opponents with a young team and this year they anticipate the experience those players now possess will be an advantage in helping them grow even more towards a winning tradition.

“Last year we were extremely young with a lot of juniors and sophomores, and we built just a little bit more on our record from 2010,” said athletic director/head coach Barry Minter. “With those guys having more Friday night experience under their belts as seniors and juniors, we should be more competitive in our new district.” The Cougars have a core group of key leaders returning who know what it takes to win and it will be necessary for them to lead the way to garner a winning record this season. “The men have grown a lot from last season,” Minter said. “The amount of hard work they have put into their off-season workouts to get better and their dedication and focus is impressive. I’m excited about seeing what we can do this season.” Minter said last year and two seasons ago, the focus was on the basics of football, and making sure the team and players were fundamentally sound. Now, it’s time to set an example. “Now that a lot of the players have a good grasp on the fundamentals we are ready to build more confi-

dence and step up from the rebuilding phase,” he said. “If our seniors can set an example in leadership and work together with the younger players we can build some needed momentum and win some more games.” The Brazos offensive squad has six players returning with a significant amount of talent. Two-year starter at quarterback, Kyle Kolafa, is once again the signal caller after passing for 1,857 yards (1,035 yards in 2011) in the past two seasons. The anticipated recipient of a lot of Kolafa’s passes is Willie Joe Fernandez who is a receiver to watch this year. Alan Zapalac (6’6” 285 pounds) is a returning impact player who is not only big and strong, but he is also quick for his size. Zapalac along with Dale Dostal will anchor an offensive line that Brazos anticipates will provide time for Kolafa to find his receivers downfield or scramble if necessary. “I am ready to help lead the team to a winning district record and get us into the playoffs,” said Kolafa. “We have some great linemen in Dale Dostal at center and Alan Zapalac at tackle. They should be able to give us enough protection in the pocket to get the ball downfield to Willie Joe (Fernandez), Jay (Riley), and our other receivers.” Returning for the Cougars in their 4-3 base defense are starters including Dostal at linebacker, Zapalac at defensive tackle and Jordan Minter

With Dostal anchoring the linebacker spot, Zapalac holding down the line of scrimmage and Minter containing the end, Brazos should be able to make some crucial stops in pressure situations. Since games can be won or lost in the trenches coach Minter, and his staff, put a lot of emphasis on the importance of making sure they hold down the defensive front. “If we can be quick off the snap and hold the point of attack with our defensive line in order to force the opposing offense we can get after the quarterback and cause some turnovers,” the coach said. In the defensive backfield Denzel Brewer is expected to have a great year at strong safety backing up the linebackers and locking down receivers over the middle. The 2012 Brazos Cougar varsity football team anticipates tough play in a competitive district which includes rival East Bernard along with solid teams from Danbury and Hitchcock. “It’s a new district for us, and it is going to be competitive. If we want to earn a winning record we have to capitalize on our senior leadership, focus on one game at a time, and execute our game plan,” Minter said. “If we can do that it is going to be an exciting year at Brazos.” The Brazos Cougars open their season on the road at Burton on Friday, Aug. 31 with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

After weeks of practice, the Sealy junior varsity Tigers are ready to show off their skills this fall on the football field. The junior team will take to the field in its first match of the season tonight at Houston-Milby with a start time of 7 p.m. The team, which has a strong showing of players on the offense and defense, serves as a scout team of sorts for the varsity first strings. The junior varsity players not only practice against tougher players than they are likely to face when they play other junior squads, but it also helps the players learn the varsity system and level of play for when it comes their time to step up to the varsity squad. “The junior varsity team is out there every day practicing with the varsity,” said head junior varsity coach Ray Dabney. “The junior varsity defense is the scout defense that prepares the varsity first team offense
for the upcoming game and the junior varsity offense is the scout offense that prepares the varsity first team defense for the same thing. We don’t get to practice with just ourselves too often, but the players gain a lot of valuable experience playing against the varsity day in and day out.” Dabney said the team has a lot of bright spots this season, and promised a good show for fans. “We have quite a few players with a good amount of talent and speed and, if these guys play up to their potential, they are going to be a tough bunch to beat,” Dabney said. While the players change with each season, Dabney said the goal is the same every year – tell and teach the players about the team’s goal of a winning record. “Then it is to try and beat every other junior varsity team in the district,” explained Dabney. “When the varsity makes the playoffs we give every junior varsity player the opportunity to move up to varsity for the playoffs to help the varsity prepare for each playoff game.”

Brahmanette's work to return to state championship By JASON GUILBEAU
By JASON GUILBEAU After losing only two players, including Amber Jacobson and starter Ashley Cooper, the Lady Tiger volleyball team is poised for success in 2012. Head coach Amy Parker’s squad has four seniors, three juniors, and three sophomores for a good mix of experience, leadership and talent. “This group of seniors is the first group that I have been able to coach for all four high school years,” said Parker. “They are a solid group with a wealth of talent and leadership. They can go as far as they want to if they stay focused and dedicated.” Returning for the Lady Tigers is an outstanding front row consisting of senior No. 2 Caroline Owen at middle blocker, senior No. 4 Kay Schroeder at setter/outside hitter, junior No. 6 Madison Brantly at setter/outside hitter, junior No. 1 Morgan Menke at outside hitter, junior No. 10 Kyndal George at middle blocker, senior No. 8 Kelsie Maxwell at defensive specialist/ outside hitter and sophomore No. 12 Lauren Theilemann at outside hitter. This talented group is able to score a lot of points by setting and swinging well, in addition to denying opponents scoring chances by blocking well at the net. In the back row is sophomore No. 3 Mariah Holub who plays the libero position, sophomore No. 7 Shandi Nelson who plays defensive specialist and senior No. 10 Marissa Bolden who plays defensive specialist. All do a great job of playing a majority of the court making digs to deny opponent spikes and passing the ball to the front row for Sealy scoring opportunities. “This year’s team has great chemistry and so far they have been spot on,” said Parker. “They are extremely cohesive, their morale is great, and they

After 14 appearances in the Texas state volleyball championship finals and nine Texas state volleyball championship titles, one might assume that complacency may take over. However, this could not be further from the truth for Bellville’s legendary head volleyball coach Susan Brewer, who has led Brahmanettes for 35 years. In a press release issued by the UIL, after being awarded a UIL Sponsor Excellence Award in 2010 Brewer stated, “Our athletic program offers students a real-life opportunity to practice the truths that they have studied theoretically in their academic classrooms,” said Brewer. “My gym is a laboratory in which to test and to prove such values as commitment, discipline, selflessness, competitiveness, goal-setting, problem-solving and teamwork.” As a testament to her philosophy, numerous athletes who have played for Brewer over the years have gone on to become coaches and teachers, including Faith Academy head coach Beth Keaton, who won a state championship as a player for Brewer. This year Brewer brings the same level of excellence and determination to a 2012 Bellville volleyball squad, which lost four players - Sarah Frazier, Kara Mushrush, Daniella Bonilla and Kyndal Carter - to graduation. Despite losing these graduated players from the 2011 squad, Brewer will have a competitive team of talented ladies. Returning to the court for the Brahmanettes in 2012 are several players including: sophomore Keeton Holcomb at libero/defensive specialist, senior Jessica Horak at setter and right side hitter, junior Briana Klotz at setter/right side hitter, junior Rachel Kuenstler at outside hitter, junior Lorin Robertson at outside hitter, senior Alondra Rosales at middle blocker, junior Devon Mann at outside hitter, freshman Jenna Lewellen at outside hitter, junior Mackenzie Ables at outside hitter, sophomore Ashleigh Traylor at outside hitter, freshman Reilly Kuenstler at middle blocker, senior Megan Holle at middle blocker and sophomore Britani Schulz at defensive specialist. The Brahmanettes face several quality opponents including East Bernard, St. Agnes and Brenham before beginning district play against Wharton on Sept. 7 in a new district that contains Wharton, El Campo, Needville, Columbus, Sealy and Royal. Bellville has one of the most storied volleyball programs in the history of Texas high school sports and this year Brewer is once again at the helm of a competitive, hard-working team.

Bellville Brahma's move into high gear By JASON GUILBEAU Sports Writer
Bellville athletic director and head football coach Grady Rowe is back after drastically improving the football team in his first season at the 3A level with Bellville. Rowe took over a team that went 2-8 in 2010 and led them to a 10-2 season in 2011 before losing in the second round of the playoffs to Coldspring in overtime. Once again, Bellville will place high value on toughness and utilize the Slot-T on offense. “I am really excited about this year,” Rowe said. “Last year we implemented a new offense and defense along with a new mindset that places a premium on being physical. Now, with the guys having a year of experience using the new schemes, we are ready to move into higher gear.” The Brahmas are also anticipating veteran leaders like Taylor Thompson, Trey Jordan, Kyle Fuchs, Tyler Jordan and Josh Bullard to lead the team and help get the freshman, sophomores and juniors new to varsity ready for the competition under the Friday night lights. With 15 varsity lettermen returning, (six offensive starters and six defensive starters) the experience of the older players will be invaluable to help the new starters fill in the roles vacated by last year’s graduates. “These young men have really bought into our system and philosophy and have been working extremely hard to build further upon what we did last season,” Rowe explained. “We really need our veteran leaders to bring up the intensity and lead by example so the younger guys will quickly learn what it takes to succeed at a higher level.” Having drastically changed their fortune for the better last season, Bellville’s morale has greatly improved due to the culture of success the team developed in 2011.
“A lot of these guys had grown up watching the Brahmas win and they took quite a hit to their confidence when they went 2-8 in 2010,” said Rowe. “Last year my goal was to turn things around and the young men did a great job. Now that they know what it feels like to win, they want more of it and are dedicated to doing even better this season.” Quarterback Kyle Fuchs (6-4, 225 pounds) has been battling injuries but he is anticipated to have a good year for the Brahmas. LaKieath Nunn (5’9”, 175 pounds) is also expected to be a force at fullback in the Bellville running game after rushing for 1,019 yards on 149 carries for nine touchdowns in 2011. Joining Nunn in the backfield will be Debrae Parker (5’9”, 150 pounds) who will bring a lot of the speed opposing teams saw him use last year by gaining 791 yards rushing from the tailback position. At tight end Josh Bullard (6’3”, 230 pounds) will be quite a force for the Brahmas in both blocking for the running game and creating mismatches down the field on passing routes. At receiver the Brahmas have several talented wideout Jacon Crider and swing-man Cal Wood. On the offensive line Tyler Jordan is back at center and assisting him in securing the trenches will be Glen Miles. The Brahmas are going to base their defense out of the 4-3 again this year with multiple packages. “We are going to base out of the 4-3 again, but we will still mix it up a lot to keep opposing coaches guessing and to counter different threats,” said Rowe. “We have several players who excelled for us on defense last year and we expect even more out of them this year.” One of those players is Taylor Thompson (5’10”, 180 pounds) who blocked six extra points, had two kick returns for touchdowns and was 2011

special teams player of the year. Thompson will bring those talents to the Brahma defense and anchor the secondary for Bellville. Kamm Coker will also bring a tough presence to the pasture of pain after coming back from an injury late in the 2011 season and the Bellville coaching staff expects him to greatly assist in stopping the run and roving the field from a linebacker spot. Assisting Coker at linebacker will be Westin Jablonowski (5’9, 155 pounds) who is a sophomore stepping up along with Angel Rodriguez and Tevin Crawford to give the Brahmas depth at linebacker. On the defensive line Jacob Larive will help control the point of attack along with a corps of other Bellville defensive linemen. “We lost quite a few guys from last year’s defense to graduation and those of us who are leaders really need to set a strong pace for those new to varsity,” stated Thompson. “If we can make the needed adjustments with the newer guys and keep the intensity level up amongst our seniors we are going to be a dangerous team in district and the playoffs.” Overall, Rowe expects another great year for the Brahmas. “Everyone is doing a superb job starting with the leadership our seniors are providing to the team which will help carry us where we need to go to surpass what we did last year,” said Rowe. “We are just ready to get things rolling in the regular season in week 0 and take the next step from there.” Bellville faces off with Caldwell on Friday, Aug. 31 on the road at Caldwell with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

Cross-country rebuilding for success By JASON GUILBEAU Sports Writer
The Tigers and Lady Tigers cross-country team is ready to challenge for the championships this year, despite losing the entire varsity cross-country team due to graduation and burn out. “We have a pretty solid team with some returning veterans this year,” said head cross-country coach Juan Perez. “We lost our entire varsity team two years ago and if our experienced runners get the job done we could be really good this year.” Running for the Tigers are Eduardo Ortiz, Luis Chavez and Yamir Flores. All three runners are strong and should have a good shot at competing for wins in district and very possibly the postseason. The Lady Tigers team includes Charlette Janicek, returning after outstanding seasons in cross-country and track last year as a freshman. There is no reason to believe she shouldn’t be able to qualify for regionals in 2012 as a sophomore. Joining Janicek in competition for a spot at the postseason on the team are Sarah Page and Briley Mlcak, who are also strong runners. In an unofficial practice meet, where runners ran in pairs at Royal, Janicek and Page earned first place. The team’s first litmus test against competitive runners will be at The Woodlands meet on Aug. 31, according to Perez, and in district Sealy will face tough runners from Wharton, Bellville and Royal. “If the team comes together, improves their cohesion and morale, and develops a strong chemistry they will be tough in competition,” said Perez. “If they can do the things we need to do in regards to working hard I think we can achieve our goal of sending three boys and three girls to regionals.”

Schroeder has a powerful serve that gives opponents difficulty, and that added with the serving of Owen, Holub, Nelson, Bolden and Theilemann, makes Sealy a threat to opponents in all phases of the game. Sealy faces new district competition from El Campo, Wharton and Needville, in addition to familiar foes Bellville, Columbus and Royal. After last year’s heartbreaking loss to Tomball Memorial in the last part of district competition, which knocked Sealy from playoff contention, this group is ready for redemption in 2012. “There is a different attitude amongst the team this year that is not only extremely competitive, but is also a lot of fun,” Parker explained. “The ladies have a great chemistry and they are hungry to do what it takes to win and go as far as they can.”

After having to drop out of competition due to injuries in their first season back on the gridiron, Faith Academy is back with a deeper roster and a fresh outlook in 2012. Along with having more players on the roster this year, with 10 instead of last year’s seven, head coach Joe D. Epp is optimistic in his first year at the helm of the Knight football team, after being an assistant in the previous season. “I am extremely excited about this season. We have 10 quality athletes and I really think we can compete in district competition if we stay healthy this year,” said Epp. For the Knights, junior Will Byler, who is one of the team’s strongest defenders, will be playing linebacker and running back. Sophomore Matt Dillon, one of the team’s strongest offensive players, will be calling the signals on offense at quarterback and will be lined up as a safety on defense. Junior Jesse Rosales will also be a key on offense, playing running back and wide receiver and senior Dusty Jester will be playing wide receiver.
After last year’s problems with injuries the Faith Academy Knights utilized their new weight room to work hard at getting bigger, faster and stronger in the off-season. “Our young men really hit the weights hard to improve their strength and endurance during their time off from football,” said Faith Academy athletic director Chuck Tomlinson. “I really feel that added work and dedication will pay off when those young men hit the field this fall.” In six-man football, every player on offense is eligible as a receiver and the quarterback cannot cross the line of scrimmage until the football has changed hands at least once. The field is also smaller than the game’s 11-man counterpart. In 11-man football, the field is 100 yards long by 53 yards wide and in six-man football, the field is 80 yards long by 40 yards wide. These changes in personnel and rules make the game a high scoring and faster affair. “The six-man game is an exciting, high octane experience,” said Epp. “It is a run and gun affair and it is not abnormal to see both teams score over 50 points in a game.”

With five returning starters from last year’s team, along with a strong new setter, the Lady Knights seem poised to fulfill their team motto for 2012 to go for the gold. “After we have been stopped in the first round of the TAPPS 1A state final four we are ready to win it all,” said Faith Academy head volleyball coach Beth Keaton. “Our motto is going for the gold in 2012 because we are hungry to win a state championship this year and I feel we can do it. We are really strong with regards to hitting, but we need to continue to improve our setting. We have a great core group back and if we stay focused our team has some great things in store,” Keaton said. Taking the court for Keaton’s team are sophomore Rebecca Polasek-Rios at setter, senior Ashley Flores at libero, junior Jacey Crawford at middle hitter/blocker, senior Madison Graham at right side hitter, junior Amanda Allard at outside hitter, junior Kary Ann Keaton at outside hitter/setter, junior Kaitlyn Little at
middle hitter/blocker, Sarita Guerrero at defensive specialist and senior Paige McShan at outside hitter. One of the keys for the Lady Knights with their recipe of experience and talent is to stay determined. “One of the main goals for our athletic department this year is to win the state championship,” said Faith Academy athletic director Chuck Tomlinson. “If they stay determined, work hard in practice, and play every point one at a time I really feel that coach Keaton and the team can do it.” The Brazos team is 1-1 and off to a great start this year. In non-district they make sure to schedule tough opponents so that they will be ready for the tough playoff competition. “This is the strongest we have been at the start of the season in a long time,” explained Keaton. “We still have a lot of work to do, but I am pleased with the way things are going so far and I feel we can build on what we have to achieve greatness.” Faith Academy begins play in TAPPS 1A District 6 on the road at Conroe Cavalry on Sept. 18.
