Top Stories — 2011 Our Leadership: Meet the newest members of BNY Mellon's Global Diversity and Inclusion Council July 5, 2011 BNY Mellon recently welcomed 10 new members to its Global Diversity and Inclusion Council, representing six cities in five countries around the world. The Council helps BNY Mellon fulfill its commitment to diversity and inclusion. "For me, diversity is about ensuring each individual contributor to BNY Mellon's makeup, teams and workforce can arrive at work and bring his or her true self, unconstrained by the judgments or preconceptions of others," said new member Beth Dowling-Jones, Relationship Manager for EMEA Asset Servicing and Prism EMEA Co-Chair. "It is by embracing each individual talent, each unique idea, that we can gain the best insights, the smartest opinions and the most creative solutions." The Council is comprised of Bob Kelly, six Executive Committee members, 22 additional members, and an advisor. The 10 new members represent diversity in geography, from locations including New York, Hong Kong and Pune, India. They also represent a range of business and business partner groups, from Human Resources to Financial Markets and Treasury Services. Mike Harmon, Senior Project Manager of the Client Implementation Group for BNY Mellon Asset Servicing, is new to the team but brings his experience as Co-Chair of the HEART (Helping Each Ability by Respecting and Teaching) affinity network. "Being involved with HEART has opened my eyes in so many ways," Mike said. "Some people look at people with disabilities and think about what they perceive them as lacking, but I see them as providing us with a new perspective. It's a learning experience and an opportunity I don't think I would have had otherwise." The main goals of the Global Diversity and Inclusion Council include creating a clear sense of accountability for diversity efforts companywide, facilitating diversity and inclusion best practices across the global organization, and identifying ways to advance the organization's commitment to diversity and inclusion. Visit the Council's MySource site or bnymellon.com for more information and individual biographies of its members. The sites also contain personal reflections from each member on his or her own experiences with diversity and inclusion and why the issues surrounding these topics are important to them.
