Neuros OSD Recorder Supplementary Manual
Version 1.0 - Revised February 2010
Overview
Once it is installed, the Neuros OSD box will allow you to record audio and video clips from your stadium’s video system and save them on a USB flash drive. These video files are playable on any computer and can easily be uploaded to the internet, allowing Mandalay to provide valuable feedback on entertainment breaks, skits, and other aspects of game presentation.
Installation
Even though the Neuros OSD recorder is very easy to install, you might want to consider having your engineer integrate it into your control room. The hardest part will most likely be finding program video and audio feeds for the device input as well as a TV monitor for the output. After you’ve found these feeds, the rest of the installation is simple. 1. Connect the power. Connect the included power supply to the wall and the Neuros box. The green light on the top-left side of the box should turn on. NOTE: The Neuros OSD box does not have a power button and will remain powered on until the unit is unplugged. 2. Connect the video and audio output. The Neuros OSD box uses an on-screen menu to guide you through the recording process. To connect a TV monitor: 1. Connect one of the included RCA Composite A/V Cables to the A/V OUT port on the right side of your OSD. 2. Connect the RCA composite cable ends to the corresponding inputs on your TV A/V IN plugs (Yellow=Video, Red=Audio Right, White=Audio Left). 3. Select the correct input on the TV. Press the HOME button on the OSD remote if you don’t see anything on the screen as doing so will always bring up the Main Menu. 3. Connect the video and audio input. Using the feeds you found earlier, supply input video and audio to the recorder. 1. Connect the remaining RCA Composite A/V Cable to
the A/V IN port on the right side of your OSD. If you are using S-Video, connect both the S-Video and RCA cables. 2. Connect the RCA composite cable ends to available Program Audio and Video feeds. You may need additional adaptors and/or devices to make this work. Talk with your engineer if you have any issues. If you are using the S-Video cable, you will still need to connect the red and white RCA plugs (for audio), but not the yellow plug (which is replaced by the S-Video cable). Almost done! 4. Insert the USB flash drive. A small USB flash drive was included in your shipment. Insert it into the USB port on the front of the OSD box. That’s it! Your Neuros OSD box has already been configured by Mandalay Creative and is ready for use.
Setting up a Vimeo account
Mandalay uses a website called Vimeo for video sharing and online collaboration. You must first setup a free account before you can upload content to the MBP group. If you don’t have a Vimeo account, follow the steps below to create one. However, if you already use Vimeo and you use your work email address to access it, skip to step *****. If not, you will need to create a separate account. 1. Go to http://www.vimeo.com/sign_up. Enter your first & last name, your work email address, and a password. If asked to set up a Plus account, click “No”. All of the features necessary for uploading video clips and online collaboration are available with a free account. At this point, Vimeo will send you a welcome email with an account verification link. 2. Open your email inbox and click the verification link.
...to transfer clips
One last thing. After you sign up for your account, you’ll need to be added to the private “MBP Entertainment Directors” group. 3. Contact Scott Rohrer or Sean Coffman and let us know you have an account. Feel free to use any method listed at the end of this manual. After we add your account to the group, you will receive a confirmation email with an activation link. Click that and you’re good to go.
Using your Neuros OSD Recorder... With the setup out of the way, let’s get to the fun stuff.
...to record a clip
Since your box arrived pre-configured, it’s also incredibly easy to use. 1. Ensure that the USB flash drive is inserted. 2. Press the RECORD button on the remote. There will be approximately 5 seconds of delay before recording begins (the recorder takes a few seconds to initialize). By default, your Neuros OSD will record for exactly 2 minutes—you don’t even have to press the stop button at the end of an entertainment skit! If you would like to stop the recording early, simply press the stop button. (For recordings longer than 2 minutes, the record length can be changed from the Home menu by selecting Record.Schedule>Advanced Settings. Make sure to change it back when finished!)
...to play a clip 1. Press the HOME button on the remote. 2. From the Home menu, select Play.Browse>USB Drive. 3. Choose the clip you’d like to play and press ENTER on the remote.
YOU MUST EJECT THE USB DRIVE BEFORE REMOVING IT. Failure to eject can cause the recorded clips to become corrupt. 1. Press the HOME button on the remote. 2. From the Home menu, select Play.Browse. 3. With the cursor over “USB Drive”, press the XTRA OPTIONS MENU button ( xi ) on the remote. The Xtra Options menu will appear. 4. Select EJECT. You may now remove the USB flash drive.
Uploading clips to the MBP group
Now that you have some clips recorded, you’re ready to upload them. 1. Insert the USB flash drive into your computer. If an auto-play window pops up (with the text “What do you want Windows to do?”), click Cancel. 2. Go to http://www.vimeo.com/groups/mbp . You may need to log in if you haven’t already. Welcome to the MBP Entertainment Directors group page! On the top of the page beneath the logo, you’ll find the navigation tabs. In the left column you’ll find recent activity in the group, similar to the News Feed on Facebook. The right column contains links for creating a new forum thread and uploading videos. 3. Click on the button in the middle of the right column. Do not use the upload link at the very top of the page, as this would upload the video to your account only, not the group page. 4. Click the ‘Choose a File to Upload’ button and select a video file from the USB flash drive. The files should have a filename similar to “teamname_date&time.mp4”. The video clip will begin uploading as soon as you hit OK. While
you’re waiting, you can move on to the next steps. 5. Enter a title for the video. To help keep the videos organized, try using only the skit title. 6. Enter a description and/or tags. These fields are not required, but are helpful to you later on if you need to search for a video. Click the Add button when finished. 7. Click the Privacy button on the left navigation menu and set the privacy setting to ‘Nobody Else’. Everything else is fine as-is. DO NOT SKIP! YOU MUST MAKE THE VIDEO PRIVATE! You must make sure to set the privacy setting to ‘Nobody Else’ EVERY TIME you upload a video to ensure that it stays private. 8. When finished adding information to your clip, click the ‘Save Changes’ button. That’s it! Clicking on the Go To Video button will take you to the main page for that video. Because you have a free account, the video may not be available instantaneously. A countdown will tell you how much time is remaining before the video is converted and available to watch. With your videos posted to the MBP Entertainment Directors group page, you can send and receive comments, view videos posted by other members, and participate in the forums.

A NOTE ON ORGANIZATION You’ll soon find that Vimeo will become a powerful tool for organizing game footage for training and review. It will be even more powerful if you keep your uploads well organized, so that you can use these clips for training your staff as well. The best way to do this is by adding one extra step when uploading a video: After setting the privacy settings, select the Add To button on the left navigation menu. Under the Add To Albums section, choose +New Album. Enter a descriptive category as the New Album Name. It’s best to use the name of the skit depicted in the video. Add an Album Description if you’d like to aid when searching. Click Add. The next time you would like to add a video to that album, click the check box next to the album title. For example, when you upload a video of the Toddler Race, add a new album titled ‘Toddler Race’. Later, when uploading videos of the Toddler Race, add them to that album. You can find a listing of all of the videos you’ve uploaded, by album, by choosing Videos>My Albums from the top navigation bar of any page. These albums are linked to your account, meaning they contain only videos uploaded by you and are not
