Got questions about bonus leave? We can help!

In addition to the pay raises and retirement funding SEANC fought for and won in the new state budget, we also negotiated a little something extra: Five days of nonbankable bonus leave for full-time permanent employees. Navigating just how you should use these days can be complicated. SEANC has put together a list of important facts and strategies to help you decide when and how to use this much-needed time off. Click here for the inside scoop on how to make your bonus leave work for you!

Help SEANC and win money! SEANC is currently evaluating the payment options we offer members, and would like your input! Please take a few minutes to fill out a quick survey about our payment options for dues, insurance and Purchasing Power. SEANC currently allows payment by check, bill pay, bank draft and payroll/pension deduction. We will use information gathered from the survey to determine future payment options. As an added bonus, all members who participate in the survey will be entered into a random drawing for a chance to win one of four $50 Visa gift cards! You must include your name and email address in order to qualify. Click here to fill out the survey and enter the drawing!

Nominations open for the Upperman Award At the SEANC Convention in September, the State EMPAC Committee will present the Gloria M. Folwell keeps promise not to raise premiums on State Health Plan As promised, State Treasurer Dale Folwell announced this week that he would recommend no increase in premiums for the State Health Plan for 2019. As part of changes to the plan last year, Folwell committed to not raising premiums for the next four years, which means they would hold steady until at least 2021. Nationally, medical and pharmaceutical costs are expected to rise by 7 percent in 2019, and some are predicting that insurance plans will increase up to 15 percent. Folwell pointed to using the “largeness” of the plan to hold costs down as justification for the recommendation. The State Health Plan Board of Trustees will make the final determination on the premiums next week.

SEANC, DPS working to clarify raise language SEANC has been pleased to work with the Department of Public Safety to clear up confusion surrounding state budget language to make sure that every employee who works in an adult correctional institution in any capacity gets a 4 percent pay increase. We are grateful to the department for their efforts to ensure that all employees who work within prison fences will receive the full raise. Thank you to our members who alerted us this week of these issues. The department has informed us that the raise may not show up until the August paycheck for some employees.

Nominations for SEANC awards due next week Each year SEANC seeks to recognize those members who have gone above and beyond in their dedication to the association and its efforts. The people who know best who are deserving of awards are those who work alongside them every day on the district level. That's why we need you to send in your nominations now. The deadline is July 21. The four award categories are Member of the Year, District Chairperson of the Year, Distinguished Service and District of the Year. Click here for more information and to submit your nominations.

Summer has been hot, hot, hot for SEANC recruiting

This summer has been one for the record books, with more and more state employees and retirees choosing to empower themselves by joining SEANC! June was the best month for recruiting in five years for SEANC, and the momentum has not slowed with the changing of the calendar to July. This week, SEANC’s Membership Department and District 66 recruited 97 new members at an employee appreciation event at Caswell Developmental Center in Kinston. SEANC also held events at the Department of Revenue office and a Department of Health and Human Services facility in Raleigh.

Thank you to all the agencies who have allowed us to show our appreciation for state employees and retirees at events around the state this summer. If you would like for SEANC to come to your worksite, simply fill out this form. As an extra incentive, all new members who join before Sept. 30 will be entered into a drawing for a DeWalt Circular Saw! Additionally, each current member gets $5 for every new member they recruit, and anyone who recruits three members in July will be entered into a drawing for $250. The summer’s not over yet. Please point you coworkers to seanc.org/join today! The more members we have, the stronger our voice is at the General Assembly and beyond.
