Election Day is Tuesday! Early Voting ends Saturday! We're almost there. Early voting will wrap up tomorrow, and already we've had more than 17,500 members vote! We're still short of our goal of 25,000 early votes, though, meaning we need to close strong! Overall, we hope that at least 75 percent of SEANC members will cast a ballot in this election. We need to show up in large numbers on Tuesday to make sure we elect legislators who support us! Make a plan. Know what time you’re going and where you’re going. To make it easy, we have created a Voter Guide where you can find your polling place and EMPAC-endorsed candidates in your area. Also, be sure to check your information here before voting to make sure it is accurate. This election is too important for state employees and retirees to sit out. Pay raises, affordable health plan premiums, retirement security – it all starts here. We must make our voices heard!
Get Involved! SEANC members have been out in full force already in this election, making sure voters know where we stand. We still need volunteers to help at the polls on Tuesday! If you would like to get involved, click here to contact us!

SEANC, Folwell fighting to stop overcharging of State Health Plan As the legislature returned to session this week, hospital lobbyists are working to block State Treasurer Dale Folwell's efforts to save taxpayers, state employees and retirees millions of dollars. Hospital leaders recently admitted that they are overcharging members of the State Health Plan to subsidize care for the uninsured. As a result, state employees and retirees are paying too much for their health care. The State Health Plan Board of Trustees voted unanimously to end this by demanding transparency and tying reimbursement rates to Medicare rates. This will put more than $68 million back in the pockets of state employees and retirees and save taxpayers more than $300 million. Some legislators including Rep. Josh Dobson (R-McDowell) are standing with the hospitals, drafting a bill to prevent the Board of Trustees from following through on this plan. They want to allow hospitals to continue to overcharge plan members, sometimes as much as 900 percent more for procedures. SEANC leaders have been outspoken this week in support of Folwell and the board. Executive Director Robert Broome and Government Relations Director Ardis Watkins appeared on talk radio, and stood with the Treasurer in news articles from the Carolina Journal, Business NC and other outlets. SEANC will continue to stand up for state employees and retirees by pointing out the savings to taxpayers and plan members. We ask that members please be ready to reach out to your legislators to tell them to oppose efforts to stop these much-needed reforms in coming days.
Thomas appointed to statewide board Congratulations to SEANC General Treasurer Chevella L. Thomas of District 27, who recently was sworn in as Gov. Roy Cooper's appointment to the Supplemental Retirement Plans Board of Trustees. In this role, Thomas will oversee and protect the investments made for those state employees and retirees who choose to invest in the retirement supplemental plans. Thomas resides in Durham and retired as an accountant with 33 years of state service with N.C. Central University’s Division of Administration and Finance. She is also a 33-year SEANC member.
