Budget Deficit = Proposed Cuts State agencies were asked on Thursday to prepare 5, 10 and 15 percent cuts due to a likely $3.3 billion budget hole in 2011-2012. These cuts are in addition to the many reductions across state government already.

UNC President - Do the Right Thing! New UNC system President Tom Ross must offer to resign from the board of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. However, the Blue Cross board doesn’t have to accept the resignation. In order to avoid any potential conflicts of interests, SEANC believes Ross, who is paid for his Blue Cross board position, should step down.

The SEANC office will be closed on Monday, Sept. 6, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Due to convention, the next edition of The Scoop will be on Monday, Sept. 13. Are you receiving this email as a forward? Sign up for SEANC's e-mail alerts to receive your own copy!

Currently state employees can retire with 30 years of state service, no matter their age. The commission will vote to recommend a minimum age at their October meeting. SHP Blue Ribbon Task Force The State Health Plan Blue Ribbon Task Force met Sept. 21 to discuss moving control of the SHP out of the General Assembly where even most legislators admit it has been mismanaged. After two hours of talk with no direction or leadership, the task force adjourned, likely until after the November election. Stalling reform for the SHP until after the election will keep legislators in the good graces of big campaign donor Blue Cross Blue Shield, but is irresponsible to the state employees and retirees of the SHP.
