Skills AutoCAD – Revit – Photoshop – Illustrator – InDesign – SketchUp – Vray – Microsoft Office Suite Objective Having recently returned from spending a year working in the architectural industry in the United States, I am now looking for opportunities closer to home. I’m looking to gain the best possible work experience, progress in the field of Architecture and learn and apply good design. Education University College Cork, Ireland Bachelors Architecture 2009 – 2014 Second Class Honors – Grade One In my final year of University, I: • Completed two design theses focussing on the theme of Assembly; a theatre in Dublin’s vibrant inner city and a cinema and film archive in Cork City. • Authored a 10,000 word dissertation, titled “The Megastructure as a Cure to the Planetary Disease” discussing the Megastructure typology as combatant to urban sprawl. • Produced detailed construction and assembly drawings for design projects. • Wrote a 10,000 word material case study and presentation on Laminated Timber building technology (Glulam). Work Experience Architectural Designer WZ Architecture, San Francisco, California June 2015 – May 2016 While working with WZ Architecture I worked on a range of projects including high end residential, commercial, educational, healthcare and master planning in California and Nevada. I Worked on a 2,000 sq. ft. 19th Century home in Pacific Heights, 3636 Clay St., situated in an affluent historic residential area of San Francisco. • Site Appraisal: Surveyed existing conditions in the means of drawing and photography. Gathered historical, environmental and existing infrastructural information on the site and context. • While working closely with the client I designed a new layout for the home to cater for a contemporary family while respecting the historical character of the building. • Prepared permit documentation for demolition and new additions for the residence including a garage, outdoor deck, new dormers and window arrangements and a roof deck. • Prepared construction documentation for the building department and contractor. • Worked closely with external consultants including structural engineering, civil, environmental, PG & E consultants, interior and kitchen design consultants and appliance providers. I also worked on two commercial and retail core and shell remodels in downtown San Francisco, 146 Geary St. and 166 Geary St. • Working closely with landlords, developers and tenants to establish new uses for the existing buildings.
• Worked on conceptual 3d renderings of new proposed interiors, planning documentation, pricing and construction documentation. I worked on a ground up Nursing Home Facility in Henderson, Nevada • Worked on construction documentation including detailing, responding to RFIs, specifications and schedules. • Submitting materials and corresponding with local authorities including OSHPD (California Heath Planning department) • Communicating and keeping a clear line of contact with the client, contractor and engineering consultants. I worked on a conceptual master planning scheme in the greater Los Angeles area for a retail and sports park, including outdoor recreational areas, soccer pitches, climbing walls and a go cart track. • I produced a series of conceptual massing studies for the client, allowing them to envision what we proposed and to get a better idea of the scale of the site and to determine the size of the program. Architectural Assistant O’Sullivan Architecture, Tralee, Ireland December 2014 – April 2015 While working with O’Sullivan Architecture I worked on a wide variety of projects, public and private, including residential, commercial, community based and specialty in the form of an upgrade to an Air Traffic Control Tower. • Site Appraisal: Surveyed sites and their context, in the form of mapping, 3d modelling and photography and gathered materials on the sites history and planning restrictions. • Detail drawing and material technology research. • Liaised with Local Authority Planners, Engineering, Quantity Surveying and Construction consultants. • Liaised with clients and presented scheme design proposals. • Prepared planning applications. • Carried out site visits and inspected the works with the project Architect. Cork City is the second largest city in Ireland. Originally a monastic settlement, it was reputedly founded by Saint Finbarr in the 6th Century AD. The city achieved its urban character somewhere somewhe between 915 and 922 when Viking settlers founded it as a trading port. Cork is built on the River Lee which divides into two channels at the western end of the city. The city centre is located on the island created by the channels. At the eastern end of the city centre where the channels re-converge, quays and docks along the river banks lead to Lough Mahon and Cork Harbour, which is one of the world's largest natural harbours. Today the Greater Cork area has a population of about 400,000 people. The site for my proposal sits in the heart of the city on the island created by the River Lee.

PROPOSAL: CORK CITY PICTUREHOUSE & FILM ARCHIVE My propopsal is for the commerical heart of Cork on the site of the former Capitol Cineplex that sits on the Grand Parade – Washington Street, west to east axis. The site was chosen because of its prominence on the street due to this axis, its centrality and the need for renewal on a once prosperous street. The intention was to create a box office for the festivals and public assemblies of the city in a central location and once the site was chosen, it seemed appropriate to retain the civic memory of the old Capitol, a relic to the golden age of cinema in Cork. The site is rectilinear in form and open to the front and rear to Grand Parade and Market Lane respectfully. Due to the deep rectilinear form of the site, a skylight allows light to enter to the lower floors through a quadruple height atrium space. The major cinema space is expressed in the elevation to exp Grand Parade, centrally placed to terminate the axis and to respect the line of the neighbouring buildings. Vertical linearity is heavily expressed, timber fins are exp spread across the elevation and extending the height of the building creating a ribbed effect on the street.

Dublin is the capital and largest city in Ireland, founded as a Viking settlement around 788 AD. The city is situated at the mouth of the River Liffey and encompasses a land area of approximately 44 sq mi, or 115 km2, in the east- central part of the country. It is bordered by a low mountain range to the south and surrounded by flat farmland to the north and west. The river Liffey divides the city in two between the Northside and the Southside. The site for my proposal is on Thomas Street, in the Southside of the city. Thomas Street is part of the Liberties, a working class inner city district and it runs from Cornmarket to the Saint James's Gate Brewery, where Guinness is brewed, and from there it connects with James's Street. St The street has unique social character and is only one of four other streets in the city where street trading is permitted.

PROPOSAL: COMMUNITY THEATRE AND PUBLIC PARK FOR THOMAS STREET My proposal for Thomas Street is a community theatre and public park. The site is located on the western weste end of the street, just before Thomas Street connects to James’s Street and opposite the Guinness Brewery. The proposed new community theatre shares the site with the Digital Hub, Hub a resource centre and office space for start up companies and a disused Tower Windmill. The proposed p building has two street frontages, one on Thomas Street and the other on Watling Street. The public access to the theatre front of house and the public park is from Thomas Street while the service access to back of house is on Walting Street. The design intention was create a meandering route that creates a new connection from Thomas Street to the Tower Windmill which I propose is to be converted into a viewing Tower. The meandering route is screened by a glass curtain which looks onto a public park. The proposed building encloses the space on the street and leaves external access underneath to a public park, in a courtyard like form comprising of the Digital Hub, the windmill and the new theatre.

In October 2014 I undertook a commission by a family friend to propose a design for an extension to a rural Irish cottage in Ballyheigue, Ireland. The cottage sits on hillside farmland overlooking the Kerry fa coast of the Atlantic Sea and the mountains of the Dingle Peninsula. The existing cottage was in a state of disrepair and hadn’t been lived in for 10 years, but due to the client not being native to the area, planning restrictions required him to retain the cottage. To fulfill the clients brief and program it was necessary to extend the cottage down the hill.
SECTION A - A
The entry is positioned between the old and new parts of the house on the higher level. The old part of the house contains a guest bedroom, bathroom, a terrace and an bath office. On the entry level, the new part contains 2 bedrooms, 2 ensuites and a terrace. Building down the hill created a lower level to the new extension. The lower level contains the kitchen and living spaces, a music room and utility and service spaces. The form of the extension is to resemble a carved block of timber, while glass and terraces are inserted into the negative space.
