Proposal The Effects Of Light

he aim was to create a stop motion animation using a combination of different styles of card and photographs. I wanted to create a stop motion because photography is my preferred practice and I like the idea of physically making something because it keeps my mind off wondering around, and I have found that it actually sparks off more ideas when I’m using different materials.

O

nce I started to create small animations using card I soon found out what my limitations were. It was very tricky trying to keep objects in the same place, whilst trying to move other objects around and when you have multiple small objects moving at different times it always seemed to look messy and unfinished.

First Animations This was a practice animation for a Red Bull competition. I used card to make the can and coloured it in line by line to get this stop motion effect.

This is another test animation I did about Facebook, everything is made from card and the pictures were cut out of various magazines.

Freeze Light W

hilst I was searching into other artists work, I stumbled across a method called “freeze light, this is when you set your camera with a long shutter speed and a low exposure and use various lights to create patterns in the air. The outcomes of this method give off a really powerful effect, so I decided to have a go myself and resulted in some really positive images.

After trying out a few of my own photographs I then decided that I was going to change my idea and focus it on light and the ways in which we can use it to create different effects, and after some more experiments with light and shape I finalised my idea.

Freeze Light I

am going to create a short film dedicated on the different forms of light and the ways in which we can use them to create new effects and feelings. I believe that different colours and shades of light have a strong effect on how we feel, so I’m going to use that as the foundations of my project and create something that is visually beautiful and pleasing to the eye. My film will include innovative techniques used with various forms of lights and colours, with a combination of many stop motion, freeze light animations. This is a link to a small ruff edit I created so you can get a better feel of what I mean.

Project L ayout I also want to create a number of large photographs using the freeze light technique and print them out on large glossy photo paper and mounted on boards. For these photographs I want to use people and light, I feel that the combination of frozen light round still people has a really strong impact.

I want to be able to show my film on a fairly big screen, and have my photographs surrounding it; I think this will look very powerful and intriguing to the audience. I will also have a portfolio/sketch book, with all my work up untill my final project so people can see the progress and development in my work.

his website has some amazing photographs and animations using the freezelight technique. After stumbling on one of there animations from “Vimeo I was instantly hooked on creating my own animation. I got hooked on the feeling of interaction between the static motion of light and the surroundings it had been taken in. I want to try and exceed my own expectations with this final project and create a piece that will be extremely visual in which the audience can zone everything else out and enjoy the film for what it is.
