Here comes to a typological questioning on theater organization. There is no front or back of House; the House embedded in the roof provides shading for the excavated urban courtyard. The wildness of public and purely gesture of roof structure, within which a continuous mezzanine area emerge. A series of clear-cut storefronts start a distinguished experience as to city and its own open space. Terraces on the roof add extra access to the city. Responsablity: Digital model (except auditorium). Physical model and 3D printing. All rendering. All plan (except auditorium). Bridge detial. Axon diagram for integrated building system.

By investigating New York City urban texture, I’m focusing on the edges of buildings. The differences and controversy on both sides of the edge show spatial potential as to discussing a residential function and mixed-use potential. From these building elements, assemble and compose to a newly hybridized object become crucial as to creating a new experience as to the Williamsburg community, which was based on a collision of culture and lifestyles. A modular thinking of housing unit and a continuous building language contribute from the variation of moldings create a specified and uniform type of urban housing, which might extend to existing building as a way to expansion. A courtyard generated from units become a secondary living space as to the small community.

The high density of lower Manhattan is regarded as a mega structure with tremendous volume. A monumental phenomenal may happen from the city to the east river. The pier 14 was located at the historic seaport area, which brings the opportunity of experience in the city as a learning space. A formal form starting from the Riverside as an extension of city scale, and when goes further and reaching to the river, the form goes freely as dissolving into the water. In this long road from one point to another point, certain space events were created as a requirement for educational function. As a moving experience from the city to the river, the learning activity gets realized from one type to the other.

A modular system would benefits in its f-lexibility in formative variations. Dealing with a personal owned public space in the finitial district, the proposal enforced its elastic property. In response to the surroundings activities, the elastic skeleton would perform its transformation via compression and tension. A foldable structure would occupy as a community center inspired by a paper folding module. Parameter coded spacial requirements indicate the for realizing in a relatively static moment as showing after.

This course collaborates with robotics in architectural manufacturing. To practice with a self-made light source installed on the head of the robot, then by program certain tool path operate the robot to do certain moves. With long exposure photography, a light drawing was captured and the process can be regarded as a 3D printing simulation. The application of freeway 3D printing to the robot would benefits in construction complex form as demonstrated instance of theater roof from the previous studio. By splitting into segments, and a full piece of building section would be printed and assemble on site. The investigation also involves the selection of spacial mesh as the form of continuous structure.

Works related to toy study as a collection of its component. The animation is considered with generating canopies as one of architectural moments from a massively spreaded joints. Hybrid object study reveals its own complexity in changing of form, material texture and light condition. A distinguished organic form release the tension of every segments generated from a previous drawing.

The project was proposed with only the 7th f-loor of the building. With an analysis of city environment and climate at first, the architectural practice comes with a practical sense. Building envelope and material assembly, sunlight analysis and shading strategy, air system and distribution, plumbing system and recycle use, egress and fire alarm setting are all well discussed within this course. And also, the green building criteria would benefit at a reasonable cost in long term operation as for saving energy use.
