Rug trends to watch out for in 2018
Rugs became a very popular trend in 2017. All home exhibitions and fairs were dominated by rugs. We expect rugs to continue to occupy the home dĂŠcor space in 2018 as well. However, as is the case every year, some hot trends of 2017 will fade away and some interesting ones will take their place. We try to capture top 5 rugs trends in 2018.
Layered Rugs Layering of rugs was hot in 2017. It allows adding color and more importantly multiple textures on the floor giving a very fascinating look to the room. We expect layering to continue in 2018 and layered rugs to come as a product instead of an experiment at home.
Handcrafted Cotton Rugs Handmade techniques like block printing, screen printing, etc. allow flexibility to capture beautiful patterns and designs on the rug. Along with the use of organic dyes and the skills of the artisan, which no machine can replicate, handmade rugs will be something to watch out for in 2018!
Overdyed Rugs Overdyed dyed rugs were omnipresent in 2017 and should continue to do well in 2018. Overdyed with stone wash technique creates very interesting and unique patterns. Also, with velvet making a comeback across home dĂŠcor categories, velvet overdyed rugs should be a rage in 2018. With Ultraviolet being declared the Pantone color of 2018, expect a lot of lavenders and violets too.
Embroidered Rugs Embroidery is back with a bang! And looks stunning on rugs. Rug artists have discovered the forgotten art of embroidery and are having too much fun with it. Embroidery works on plain as well as designer rugs adds another beautiful element of color and texture to the rug.
Concept Rugs Concept rug is a new entrant to this space and should see traction in 2018. Some beautiful stories are being told on rugs and add a life like visual element to any room.
