Trends in Quilts

In terms of trends in home décor, quilts are quite stable. Unlike other categories where the trends change with season, there is something about quilts where we feel the need for familiarity. Also, usage of quilts or comforters has changed with time for instance, quilts are also doubling up as bedcovers and also as an accessory to accentuate any bedroom setting. Quilts occupy significant space in the bedroom and must be comfortable and soothing to the bedroom colours. Below, we have forecast upcoming trends in quilts based on our visits to exhibitions, interactions with designers and observations in the industry to keep you abreast with what’s in and what’s out.
Minimum is the new maximum The recent trend in home dĂŠcor has been one of abundance. Heavy designs with attentiongrabbing colors and patterns were trending. We see a gradual but a definite shift towards minimalism. We foresee the industry to move towards clean and solid looks. There would be hints and patches of work and design sprayed thinly, but it will play second fiddle to the clean look. Hence, out goes the patchwork quilts and in come solids with a dash of contemporary patterns like pixels, neons, and ombres.
Colors – Green & Ultraviolet An entire industry is seeing the move towards green. Home dÊcor is increasingly being influenced by mother-nature and its colors. We expect the trend to slip into quilts or blankets as well. Green will dominate the next few seasons in quilts. Furthermore, ultraviolet, after being declared the pantone color of the year, should enter quilts as well. Purple/Lavender and pink-purple solid quilts will be something we can vouch on and will look super pretty too.
Hand techniques Hand techniques never go out of fashion and will continue to trend. With the focus on being environment-friendly and sustainable sourcing, the artisans will adapt to organic sourcing with handmade methods. Block printing will continue to be stocked in coming years but with a change in colours and designs. We can definitely see embroidery making a comeback in quilts as well. Solid quilts with embroidery in vibrant colors (like ultraviolet) is a spectacular combination.

Concept We see concepts entering all categories of home dĂŠcor and expect the same in quilts as well. Concept patterns are the pictorial representation of an idea or a story, abstract or definitive. We have seen concept patterns being rock solid in rugs and see the same in quilts as well.
Cat quilts We were amazed to see the plethora of upcoming patters in cat quilts. The feline trend have truly arrived in the quilts industry and creating havoc. Cat designs look super cute in quilts and have been adapted in various ways. Think of multiple fluffy cats or vector cat designs spread across a comforter. We expect the cat comforters to do well and hope to see interesting cat patterns over the next year.
