VALLEY TO COAST 2020

Hi everyone, doesn’t it feel good know that we’re starting to slowly come out of lockdown. I don’t know about you, but I’ve missed my friends and family. If you didn’t see last months’ issue we’ve sadly decided to cancel the Valley to Coast Walk, however instead of doing the 18 mile walk from Blaengarw to Porthcawl which was the original plan we’re asking if you would do the 18 miles over the month of August. This way you are still doing the 18 miles and hopefully we’re getting some funds in, in the process. As a charity we are really lucky as we run from the offices of Moss Technical so we don’t have any overheads like rent, rate and wages etc but we still do need funds to help people, so if you’ve got any fundraising ideas, again we would really love to hear them. You can go to www.costofcancer.org.uk/events if you want to download a sponsor form. Below is the image for the walk and the logo for the company who sponsored us this year. They are Autobahn Finance, thank you to Craig and Sarah Judd for your support this year. Anyway, keep looking after yourselves as well as your friends, families and neighbours.

Nicky, Emma & Cath Trustees FEAR OF DEATH

The Buddha identified four factors conditioning fear of death. Those whose life has been based on the pursuit and enjoyment of sense pleasures tend to see death in terms of their approaching separation from those pleasures, and thus experience fear. Those who have been obsessed with their body and identified with it, tend to fear death as the separation from that cherished body. Those who have committed deeds for which they feel remorse may look on death as a precursor to some kind of payment for their bad actions, and feel fear. Lastly, those who are confused and without an inner refuge tend to experience doubts and mental agitation regarding their coming death, which results in fear. Little or no fear of death is shown by those people who have not given such value to sense pleasures or their body; to those who have committed many good actions and are confident of the good karmic results of those actions awaiting them after death; and by those who have an inner refuge and a calm, stable mind. A whole life path of generosity, meditation, admirable friendship, living within the precepts makes life smoother and less troubled for the individual and the family unit. The touching and witnessing of streams of virtue in the end of someone’s life is a moment of great triumph. We hear that death is sad and terrible and there are seven stages of grief. But that is not everyone’s experience.
