WALK FOR CHILDREN IN NEED
PORTHCAWL REGENERATION
Dear Editor, The sand dunes of Kenfig Nature Reserve and its pool have always been a favourite playground for fiveyear-old Lowri Jade Lewis. So it came as no great surprise that she chose the Reserve for her third successive walk in support of Children In Need. Supported by her parents and grand parents Lowri, a pupil at Nottage Primary Porthcawl, clipped on her Pudsey ears and set off on her sponsored walk. It took her across the dunes, along the foreshore of Sker beach (the tide was in) passed Sker House and skirting the Pyle and Kenfig Golf course on the return leg, which completed her ‘hat- trick’ of walks for the charity. A check on the pedometer showed Lowri had covered just over four miles on a walk which took a little longer to than planned she stopped to chat to every dog walker and their pets and even found time to feed carrots to ‘Texas’, a 17-hand horse waiting for his morning gallop over the dunes. Thanks to the sponsorship of family members, friends, neighbours, her dads work colleagues at Persimmon, and contributions by regulars at the Jolly Sailor in Newton, Lowri’s walk helped raise a total of £254, which has been added to the national campaign. Over the last three years Lowri’s efforts have been responsible for raising a total of £775. Mark Lewis, Porthcawl
Dear Editor, Once again, BCBC has submitted regeneration plans for Porthcawl. In the past BCBC claimed they wanted to make Porthcawl a prime seaside resort but with these plans they have changed direction. Whereby they have decided to change Salt Lake, our main car park, into a prime housing estate comprising hundreds of affordable houses and high rise which on completion will house an estimated thousand people. Many of these will be car owners and they will cause further parking congestion on our main and side streets, furthermore this will increase our population so there will be an extra burden on our doctors, dentists and new surgery, also our schools. Unfortunately all of this development will be of no benefit to Porthcawl as the millions from the sale of Salt Lake land will end up in BCBC’s coffers as the money will not be ring fenced for use on Porthcawl. Some improvements that would benefit Porthcawl would be to re-surface Salt Lake car park and to mark out sensible wide car parking spaces and a special parking area for the coaches. The surrounding boundary should be planted with privet or laurel hedges and landscaped with flowerbeds, shrubs and water features. The broken paving slabs on Eastern Prom should be replaced and the grass beds should be planted with palm trees, which would make Porthcawl unique, and the street should be upgraded generally. A new road from the Portway along the front of the fire station direct to Sandy Bay as this site is crying out to be developed and a leisure centre for our youngsters. Porthcawl is a wonderful town and it’s a pleasure to be its resident and be blessed with a beautiful sea front and we always try to maintain and keep it so. John Jenkins, Porthcawl

CLOSURE OF TOILETS IN PORTHCAWL Dear Editor, Does Porthcawl Council want a waterfall of urine to flow down the newly created Promenade beach steps? To close the John Street conveniences, is sheer madness. Who will come to a seaside town, without the most basic facilities? Do not ignore the many petitions signed by horrified residents. Install coin operated doors if necessary, but save money in other ways and use common sense. Now. Ruth Fisher, Porthcawl

BOOK OF THE MONTH Long Road to Mercy by David Baldacci From the much-loved thriller author David Baldacci, Long Road to Mercy introduces an engrossing new heroine, FBI special agent Atlee Pine. It is thirty years since FBI special agent Atlee Pine’s twin sister, Mercy, was taken from the room they shared as young children. Notorious serial killer Daniel James Tor, was caught and convicted of other murders, and while there’s no proof, Atlee believes he knows what happened to Mercy. Tor still resides in a high-security prison in Colorado. Assigned to the remote wilds of the western United States, Atlee has never stopped the search for her sister, and, wracked with survivor’s guilt, she has spent her life hunting down those who hurt others. She will always ask herself, ‘Why her, and not me?’. Now, Atlee is called in to investigate a case in the Grand Canyon when a mule is found dead with strange carvings on its body, 16 | seaside news
and its rider missing. She knows about killers and perhaps understands them better than any profiler in the FBI, but it soon becomes clear that she will need to put her skills to the ultimate test in this investigation. It seems that Atlee will now have to confront a new monster. And face the one of her nightmares. THE DETECTIVE’S GAMBIT I’m a chess addict and my Sam Smith mystery, Mind Games, is about a chess player. Chess and mysteries have a common thread, the solving of a puzzle. With that in mind, I decided to research the connection between private detectives and chess. August 1957 saw the television premiere of The Chess Player, an episode in the Richard Diamond Private Detective series. While the plot is standard for the genre, David Janssen’s portrayal of Richard Diamond is engaging and it foreshadows his starring role as Richard Kimble in the television series The Fugitive. When not tangling with femme fatales or dodging bullets, Raymond Chandler’s private detective, Philip Marlowe, could often be found brooding over chess puzzles. Marlowe preferred puzzles to over the board games with real opponents, which served to highlight his mistrust of his opponents, and humanity as a whole. Chess is the ideal game to use as a metaphor in detective fiction. Furthermore, knowledge of the game suggests a certain level of intelligence. To win through, both the chess player and the private detective know that they have to make the right moves, and that one slip could be fatal. Local history A MAN OF THE TOWN
POPPY FUND SILHOUETTE FIGURE
Richard Edwin Jones was born in Liverpool, on the 22 November 1853, at 67 Salisbury Road, Everton. Having moved to Cardiff by 1871, he married Elizabeth Williams on 19th December 1874; within twenty years Elizabeth had given birth to four sons. In 1886, Richard Edwin had acquired The Marine Hotel, Porthcawl, initially completed by local entrepreneur James Brogden. It was the first of three hotels to be acquired in our town, the other two being the Seabank Hotel and the Esplanade. Richard’s association with Porthcawl was through his eye for an opportunity. He had founded a successful Welsh catering chain from around 1870, taking leases at prominent cafe’s and tearooms, using the phenomenal growth of the Great Western Railway, and the increasing numbers of tourists visiting beautiful locations, such as Porthcawl. Although his business empire developed into hotels in Cardiff, Swansea and London R.E. Jones remained living in Porthcawl at ‘The Cottage’, Esplanade Avenue. By 1911 he had become a partner in the housing development of Esplanade Avenue and Picton Avenue. R E Jones died in Porthcawl, in 1923, leaving a profitable family business, which was to continue another forty years, run by his four sons. Ceri Joseph
The Porthcawl branch of the Royal British Legion presented a poppy fund silhouette figure to Porthcawl Museum. The figure will be displayed along side the museum replica trench. The silhouettes are near life-size and can be fixed to a wall or attached to an upright post in public or private spaces. In addition to the iconic image of a ‘Tommy’ there are equally significant representatives of the members of the communities the nation says thank you to. The silhouettes have at their base the words ‘Lest we Forget’ but any business or community group can buy and sponsor a silhouette and have its name incorporated in the base wording, as an act of Remembrance and supporting the valuable work of The Royal British Legion. On behalf of the museum Chairman Paul Joseph accepted the silhouette from Peter Buckle. Vice Chairman and Ray Street. Chairman of the Porthcawl Branch of the Royal British legion. The museum was also presented with a Royal British legion pennant to mark the 90th anniversary of the grand pilgrimage to France and Flanders made by 26,000 members of the families whose sons, husbands and brothers who had made the ultimate sacrifice during the Great War. Members of the Porthcawl branch travelled to Ypres in August to join 1600 standard bearers and wreath carriers from legion branches across the UK. The Porthcawl branch collection for the poppy fund this year the has raised over £13,000. David Swidenbank Picture Captions L to R: Ray Street, Paul Joseph and Peter Buckle

AFON Y FELIN NEWS
We’ve had a tremendously busy term leading up to Christmas. Not only did the children use their skills in drama for all the Christmas concerts, but many sung their hearts out during the school cluster Christmas music celebration at Pisgah chapel, as well as singing to the pensioners of Cornelly in the Community Centre during their festive lunch. Lizzie Davies from ETC Youth Dance worked extremely hard with our KS2 children to aid them with their creative dance showcase. We were fortunate to have a very interesting morning when Madeleine Moon visited to talk to us about her role as MP and to show us how to debate as they do in the House of Commons. Lots of money was raised during Children in Need, where many budding comedians, singers and dancers showcased their talents with our Pudsey’s Got Talent Competition. Our helpful PFA raised a lot of money during the Christmas Fayre, where Santa made a surprise visit. We are very pleased to announce that we have now achieved our Phase 5 Healthy Schools Award with the help of our Healthy Schools leader Miss Evans and her Green Team We cannot wait to see what 2019 will bring. WEST PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL
We have had a very exciting term at West Park Primary School. We are extremely proud of our year 1 and 2 children for performing ‘Iiiiitttt’sssss Chriiiiitmas!’ on the Porthcawl Pavilion Stage. Many would be daunted at the thought of performing and singing centre stage in the Pavilion but our little stars took it all in their stride! The school concert provides a fantastic opportunity for the pupils to shine and sparkle in the lime light building confidence and expressing their inner actor or actress. Once again pupils raised an incredible £1220 for Children in Need through holding our popular Talent Show and running our wonderful market stalls selling anything from books, to sweets to makeovers. Our talented netball team competed in the Bridgend Regional Tournament, getting through the heats without conceding a single point and then scoring an impressive 32 goals in the Finals tournament. We will now be training hard and looking forward to the Glamorgan Valley Tournament in March. Children across the school took part in many activities to commemorate the 100 years since the end of World War 1, including a visit to the trenches by the older children using our VR headsets, which culminated in some very emotional letters home from the Trenches. If you would like further information about West Park Primary School please visit our website www.westparkprimary.org.uk/ or make an appointment to visit the school. Festive wishes, West Park Primary

PORTHCAWL COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL
As I write, it is the end of the Christmas term and we are knee deep in nativity costumes and tinsel! Working in a primary school is just the best! Our Foundation Phase concert ‘Santa’s Hat’ (see pic) and KS2 Family Carol Concert at Gilgal Church were both wonderful. Our PTA put on an excellent and exceptionally well attended Christmas Fayre. We are so well supported by the whole community – thanks for everything you do During the last few weeks of term, the Eco Committee received the Platinum Eco Award renewal. Seaquest worked with KS2 on Sustainability; the children loved the Virtual Headsets, discovering the contents of a whale’s stomach and learning about plastics in the sea. Finally, the School Council buried a time capsule under the new doctor’s surgery. Working with parent governors, the children selected everything from coins to a multi-coloured unicorn! The capsule will be opened in 2048. We are a small and friendly school with excellent standards. If you would like to visit our school, please contact me on 01656 815660; we love showing people around. Our Nursery Open afternoon is for all families and children and is on Thursday 17th January at 1.20pm. Happy New Year everyone! Jo Rowley Head Teacher
I am very much looking forward to welcoming prospective parents and pupils to our Open Evening for Sixth Form students 2019. This takes place on 16th January at 6pm, and as usual, we welcome all families who are interested in coming to see what Porthcawl Comprehensive School has to offer, as well as those of existing pupils. Prospective new families, as well as parents of younger pupils, (who might have missed our recent Open Evening for Year 7 pupils), may arrange an appointment to meet staff and look around the school by calling 01656 774100. On 23rd January the curtain will go up on our 41st consecutive school show and this year, pupils will delight audiences with their production of “Oliver!”. Rehearsals are frantically taking place at every available opportunity to ensure that the show lives up to the long tradition of professionalism and excellence enjoyed year after year at the Grand Pavilion. Producing the show has again brought out the best in everyone and thanks to the cast, staff and parents who give so much to ensure the marvellous success of our show – long may the tradition continue at PCS! Last year was a sell-out and tickets are disappearing fast, so don’t delay calling the Grand Pavilion Box Office 01656 815995. Wednesday – Friday’s performances start at 7pm with a 2pm matinée on Saturday. Andrew Slade Headteacher
NEWTON PRIMARY SCHOOL What an amazing few weeks at Newton. We have celebrated the grand opening of our exciting new playground equipment thanks to the PTA, parents/carers and family members who supported our fundraising, Porthcawl Council for a grant plus kind donations from Councillor Brian Jones and the South Wales Police. Our Early Years open afternoon was a huge success and we look forward to welcoming the Rising 3s in January. Due to the positive feedback received we will be holding another open afternoon on Tuesday 12th February so please pencil the date in your diary and come and join in with the fun! Once again Newton excelled themselves with their brilliant acting and singing skills in their Christmas concert and even received a special visit from the man in red. We had a fantastic turn out for our Carols and Coffee afternoon with a real community spirit. All donations received are being put towards our Phase 2 playground regeneration. HAPPY NEW YEAR! It’s been a busy start to 2019 with our Year 11 pupils preparing for the future ahead. Pupils visited Cardiff Met for an University Aspiration Day and prepared for prospective job and course applications in world for work interviews conducted by CGI. This term year 11 pupils have also experienced a mock GCSE Results Day in preparation for this summer. Motivational speakers as well as revision tips helped pupils focus on their next steps to achieving their very best at GCSE. Sixth Form pupil Ellie Parry has been working with our Student Parliament to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer’s UK. Ellie has conducted assemblies and organised a games fair to raise money for this worthy cause. Year 8 and 9 pupils are working with sculptor Mandy Lane and artist Lynette Margerison in a bid to explore their learning in outdoor contexts. With an aim to develop their independence, creativity and confidence our pupils will be developing learning tools and environments for other pupils to share and enjoy. Finally Cynffig would like to take the opportunity to thank friends and family, governors and local business for supporting our fantastic school musical at the end of last term. School reports ST CLARE’S NEWS
A Happy New Year to Seaside News readers from the tallest in our Sixth Form to the smallest in our Nursery! We were delighted to welcome Bridgend MP Madeleine Moon who visited St Clare’s Sixth Form recently to meet Head teacher, Helen Hier, and to speak to students about STEM careers in engineering and IT, particularly cyber defence. Mrs Moon met Helen Hier, Sam Chumley, Head Boy and Kate Layland, Head Girl, and had a tour of St Clare’s brand new state of the art Sixth Form Centre. The MP then addressed a whole school assembly, which was followed by a fascinating question and answer session. St Clare’s is proud of its excellent A-Level and GCSE results, which outperform every school in the area. A superb 78% of A-Level grades achieved were A*-B compared to 52% nationally while 16% were A* (almost double the national results). Admission to St Clare’s can take place at any point in the term and we do not have an entrance examination. Our next Open Morning starts at 9:00am on Wednesday, 16th January and is a chance to see us in action. Visit our website www.stclares-school.co.uk or ring our friendly Admissions Team on 01656 789966 now. Helen Hier, Head Teacher
THE BRIDGE ALTERNATIVE PROVISION Wow, this year has absolutely flown by! We’ve taken part in a lot of great learning activities in recent months. We were asked to decorate an ‘outside’ tree as part of the Christmas celebrations at B-leaf in Bryngarw Park. The tree that we decorated was planted by ourselves 11 years ago as part of a Schools Community Project. Working toward our Gold Right Respecting School Award we collected 5 black bags of good used shoes that we took to Clarks in Porthcawl. The shoes will be used by UNICEF Shoe Share which helps children around the world access their right to education. KS4 were lucky enough to go on an interesting Apprenticeship day in Bridgend with Careers Wales, where there were many stalls to look at, including hairdressing, Ford and The Army. Children in Need Day at The Bridge was wonderful! We raised £46 and everyone dressed up in their Pudsey onesies and costumes. KS2 have had another busy month as they have been measuring air pollution at The Bridge. They taped a device to the lampposts outside of our school and they checked the devices daily and recorded the weather, surroundings and air recordings. Christmas is just around the corner so we wish you a Merry Christmas from all here at The Bridge Alternative Provision. By Harlie, Dylan and Kia KS3 28 | seaside news
YSGOL Y FERCH Y SGÊR We’re continuing to develop the Four Core Purposes of the New Curriculum for Wales - being ambitious, enterprising, healthy and principled. Children chose their future jobs on our Ambition Day and had the opportunity to question the Chief Constable of South Wales Police and the Chief Executive of Bridgend about how these qualities have impacted on their successes. Anti-Bullying Week activities have had a positive impact and families are giving generously to our ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ for the Food Bank. Thank you to our staff and parents for our ‘We can do it!’ maths workshops & to Cancer Research Wales for holding fascinating DNA workshops at school as part of our theme work. We’ve also enjoyed working with our neighbouring schools, Corneli Primary and Afon y Felin on various projects this term including joint community performances. In addition to our fantastic Christmas concerts & choir performances, we were very proud of our recycled decorations for Porthcawl and Pyle Libraries and for the tree we planted at ‘B Leaf’, Bryngarw ten years ago. Whilst 200 patients at Port Talbot hospital who couldn’t go home over the festive season were very grateful for the Christmas cards and carolling. Local news FUTURE OF 6TH FORM SCHOOLS The future of sixth forms in schools within Bridgend county borough is again on the agenda. There are several options on the table ranging from retaining sixth forms in all schools to abolishing them all and moving to a model with Further Education colleges providing the service. There are pros and cons to both. The big advantage of sixth forms is that pupils remain in a familiar and nurturing environment where they are known to teaching and other staff. Also, having a sixth form gives the school a cohort of pupils who act as role models and mentors for the younger children. On the other side of the argument, cuts to school funding in recent years has resulted in many subjects disappearing from the curriculum, especially modern languages, thus reducing choice for sixth formers. The key question for me is what’s best for each individual student, whether they pursue traditional academic routes, courses with a lot of direct work experience or full-blown apprenticeships. We also need a constantly improving Welsh language offer and freedom to attend faith schools. I hope people will make their views known. The consultation ends on February 22. SUZY DAVIES AM Welsh Conservative Party www.suzydavies.com
SCHOOL DEADLINES ARE APPROACHING Some important dates are coming up for parents of children who are either about to start school or are already in the final phases of their education. Anyone wanting to apply for a place at local infant, primary or junior schools in time for the September 2019 intake has until 19 February to make a submission. We’ve made the process easier, faster and more convenient by enabling people to check catchment areas and apply through the ‘My Account’ page at www.bridgend.gov.uk. Registration for ‘My Account’ is free and requires only an email address, and applicants will receive a decision by 16 April 2019. Meanwhile, the deadline for having your say on post 16-education expires on 22 February. This is asking for views on options, which range from retaining and improving existing sixth forms to creating a state-of-the-art sixth form centre or adopting a full tertiary model. With separate proposals for Welsh-medium and faith education, the move is intended to make the creative most of limited funding, support minority subjects, and find economies of scale and more. Don’t miss your chance to have your say – you can take part by visiting www.bridgend.gov.uk/consultation or by calling 01656 643664 or emailing consultation@bridgend.gov.uk COUNCILLOR HYWEL WILLIAMS Deputy Leader Bridgend County Borough Council Tel: 01656 643643 www.bridgend.gov.uk
PIECING TOGETHER THE ‘REGENERATION JIGSAW’ It’s a full year since the council announced a deal to unlock the regeneration impasse at Salt Lake, and a lot of work has taken place since then to help shape the key developments necessary for triggering Porthcawl’s transformation over the next five years. Projects such as this are like a huge jigsaw - certain pieces have to be in place to join everything together. Delivered over several phases, it will provide a new food store, leisure attractions, housing and a new-look Eastern Promenade, with capital receipts from the sale of land for each development phase re-invested in subsequent phases. The first of these will see a major upgrade of the Hillsboro Place carpark, which will include the potential for a new hotel. Land next to the new food store site will be marketed for housing, and coastal protection improvements will be introduced along the Western Breakwater and Eastern Promenade overlooking Sandy Bay. Other phases will involve further housing, the revamped Eastern Promenade, improvements at the Portway and a leisure development intended for land opposite the marina. This is going to invest millions into new facilities and infrastructure improvements for Porthcawl, and I’ll bring you further details as the regeneration develops. STAYING SAFE AND WARM The holiday season and start of 2019 brings a time for friends, family and new energy to begin a new year. I look forward to working with everyone through 2019. Last winter excess deaths in Wales doubled from the previous year to 3,400, due in part to the cold snap that accompanied Storm Emma in March. Surely we can help stop this escalating in 2019. A record 6 million people are currently enrolled on the Priority Services Register kept by energy distributors. This register ensures those in most need receive help first in weather-related energy emergencies. People of pensionable age, with children under five, with longterm medical issues or a disability, with sensory impairments, or people otherwise vulnerable, are eligible. If you think you should be on the Register, contact your energy supplier. Meanwhile, Electrical Safety First is campaigning to warn over-65s about the dangers of portable electric heaters and blankets; over a thousand house fires were ignited from an electrical source in Wales last year. People are urged to refrain from plugging fires into 4-way adaptors and replace electric blankets every 10 years, always buying from a reputable retailer. It’s important too to check in on to anyone at risk when temperatures drop. MADELEINE MOON MP www.madeleinemoonmp.com 01656 750002

RNLI VOLUNTEER WINS BRAVERY AWARD
Following his nomination to the Bridge FM Radio ‘Young Achievers Award 2018’ Porthcawl’s Ieuan WalmsleyWilliams was delighted to hear that he had won the Bravery Award. Ieuan, a student at Porthcawl Comprehensive school, has been a member of the Porthcawl RNLI lifeboat crew for just over one year and has proved he is deserving of this award on several ‘shouts’. His father, Andrew, is also a volunteer at Porthcawl. Porthcawl Lifeboat Management Group Chairman, Ian Stroud, said, ‘As soon as I heard of the Young Achievers Award – Bravery section I had no hesitation in nominating Ieuan. He has turned up for numerous ‘shouts’ and launched with fellow crew members to a variety of casualty situations and sea conditions but neither deter his determination to go to the rescue’. The Bridge FM Radio Young Achiever Awards took place at the Heronston Hotel and Spa where Ieuan was joined by his family. He received his award from Ade Collins, director of Action Doors who sponsored the Bravery section of the ceremony. Dad, Andrew, said ‘it was a very good evening not just for Ieuan’s award but to hear so many inspiring stories of fellow young award recipients from the Bridgend area’.

Local news DUNE SYSTEMS TO BE PRESERVED Sand dune landscapes are listed as being among the most at-risk habitats in Europe, and we have two of them here in Bridgend County Borough at Kenfig and Merthyr Mawr. A two-year project was recently announced to preserve, enhance and protect the dunes for future generations to visit and enjoy. Once joined together as part of a massive belt of sand, which ran all the way from the Ogmore Estuary to the Gower Peninsula, the two dune landscapes are now separated by the community of Porthcawl, golf courses and established farmland. Led by Bridgend County Borough Council and funded by the European Union through the Welsh Government, the ‘Dunes 2 Dunes’ project will increase biodiversity, improve habitats, restore paths and boundaries, and educate visitors about the nature of the dune ecosystems. Wetland environments, open sand, pools of water and a variety of vegetation will all be preserved to encourage rare species, such as the Fen Orchid, to thrive, and the project will see local landowners, nature reserve staff, golf clubs and farmers all working together in close partnership. It’s great to see how this initiative is helping to safeguard Kenfig National Nature Reserve and the Merthyr Mawr sand dunes for future generations. NEWS FROM PORTHCAWL INDEPENDENT ALLIANCE We are continuing the drive to make Porthcawl Town Council more accessible for residents. The council offices are relocating later this month to 18, Mary Street which is next to Harris Printers and has parking close by. Further investment has been made in installing ‘droppedkerbs’ around Porthcawl helping residents and visitors who use mobility scooters, walkers or residents who have restricted mobility. Many of the main routes to town and the villages of Nottage and Newton have already seen these improvements. Attention is now being given to the ‘routes to the new health centre’ to see how things need to be improved. If you feel that a dropped kerb is needed please contact your councillor and it will be considered. Many residents may know that following representations by Civic Trust, councillors and many others, Bridgend County Borough Council are showing signs of listening to Porthcawl residents’ views and ideas regarding regeneration. The news that Hillsborough car park will now be retained, repaired and upgraded is to be very much welcomed. Hopefully in the not too distant future listening will also include words like – talking to and consulting.

KPC CELEBRATES 20 YEARS WORKING IN THE COMMUNITY!
KPC, the charity based in Pyle, celebrated 20 years since it’s doors first opened on 28th November 1998, with a celebration at the centre to mark the landmark of achieving 20 years of supporting young people and the local community. KPC was originally set up in 1998 by local lady Helena Parobij along with other community supporters. The charity has grown over the years and although it’s original remit was to support young people, and give them alternatives to hanging out on the streets - anti-social behaviour, substance misuse, the charity has expanded to also support adults who are unemployed to help with their employability skills and also through various wellbeing programmes, such as the Rebound sessions. The Mayor of Bridgend County Borough (Cllr John McCarthy) and his wife Judy kindly opened the celebrations, along with Chair of KPC - Paula Lunnon, with some great entertainment by Cynffig Comprehensive School pupils performing an early taster of their forthcoming “Elf” Show, and music provided by Phil Jones, Ed Rees and friends. Alongside the celebrations KPC ran an Xmas Fayre and had an early visit from Santa - to the delight of the younger one’s attending. The evening was a tribute to Helena’s vision, and past members and supporters who attended were able to reminisce over old photos, good times and fun at KPC over the years - trips out, fundraising and being part of “KPC family”! The photos will remain up at KPC for the next few weeks - so if you would like to come and see how people have changed, what we got up to over the years and also contribute to our “Memory Board” all very welcome! If you’d like to know more about KPC and the work we do, please get in touch 01656 649219, or email: kpcyouth@ hotmail.com www.kpcyouth.com

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH
PORTHCAWL COOP’S LOCAL CAUSES
I once bought a Nativity set at a jumble sale. When I got home, I discovered there were five Wise Men, an extra baby Jesus, and no Joseph. There was a sheep twice the size of the camel. Despite it being completely wrong I use it anyway. We will soon be in the season of Epiphany, when we celebrate the visit of the Magi to the infant Jesus. Scripture tells us that the Magi did not visit Christ on the night of his birth and were never there in the stable with the shepherds. They arrived much later, so all of our nativity sets have it wrong. But is inaccurate always the same as wrong? Sometimes it just doesn’t matter. Occasionally you can have all the right parts in all the right places at all the right times, and still something is wrong, especially at Christmas, when we work so hard to make things just right. That’s why many people are relieved that we can get back to our regular, imperfect lives, with mismatched people, places, and things. Now the Wise Men come to see the Christ child. God Bless. Rev Lewis Rees, Nottage Chapel
The three are: 1.Ty Elis Counselling 2.Cost of Cancer Porthcawl 3.Porthcawl Community First Responders. In 2018 we donated nearly £30000. The COOP has assisted other causes, if you need assistance or if we can help please contact your Pioneer Member. Kerry Marlow

THROUGH CHRISTIAN EYES Hi all, I would like to start by wishing you a happy new year. Here are some thoughts: I love the Christmas season. I love the family time, relaxing time, opening gifts and watching my favourite Christmas movies. Probably like many others I was looking forward to it. The way it always works of course however, is the way Christmas comes to us. You can guarantee that around the beginning of December the movies etc... start to come. It got me thinking about how Jesus came to us. The bible says that at the ‘right time’ Jesus came to die for the sins of mankind. For us now that ‘right time’ is anytime you decide to respond to him coming for you. Christmas comes to us; Jesus comes to us. You probably responded to Christmas; you can also respond to Him. BAVO CELEBRATES VOLUNTEERS’ ACHIEVEMENTS AT AWARDS CEREMONY
Pippa is a sensitive seven-year-old Patterdale Terrier. She does need to have slow introductions to new people as she can be shy initially. Pippa will mix with other dogs, but again, can be nervous on first meeting. She will suit a quiet home with children 14 years and over and just be given time to adjust to a new environment as once Pippa is settled, she will enjoy a cuddle and her personality should shine through. Once Pippa has a bond with you, she will be your best friend for life. For more information on Pippa, why not pop down to Dogs Trust Bridgend CF31 4NG; or give us a call on 01656 725219. NEWS FROM THE TALBOT Happy New Year to you all. 2018 was a very good year for the Talbot; we had a very busy December with several Christmas lunches and small parties, all celebrating Christmas, the mince pies were abundant, and don’t mention turkey! We even had a visit from the man himself, Father Christmas! and I got a cuddle. We have already planned two theatre trips to see the pantomime Beauty and the Beast in the New Theatre in Cardiff, and the Jersey Boys, in Cardiff Millennium Centre. We will all be leaving the show singing in a high-pitched tone, copying Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons (the Jersey Boys). The trustees of the Talbot plan to meet in the next few weeks, and it is hoped that a few more people will take an interest in the running of the Talbot, and perhaps join the committee. It would be good to see a few new faces join us and give ideas on how to move forward for 2019, new day trips etc. For more information contact Cheryl on 01656 749754, email: talbotcc@tiscali.co.uk or visit our website: www.talbotcc.co.uk Cheryl Butcher

GUIDE DOG IN SPOTLIGHT
LIFE WITH PORTHCAWL LIONS
Guide dog puppy raiser Sandra Corben features in the new series of Weatherman Walking on BBC 1 Wales this spring. Sandra and her latest puppy, yellow Labrador retriever Johnny, filmed with popular weatherman Derek Brockway at Newton beach in glorious winter sunshine. Sandra said: “Raising puppies for Guide Dogs has introduced me to a whole new group of friends. We meet with our pups and let them enjoy free running time together. Newton beach is one of our favourites. The people I meet are friendly, and always want to know more about Guide Dogs. “Johnny is my fifth puppy, and it’s my job to introduce him to as many sights and sounds as possible. It’s good to include the puppy in your daily routine, visiting shops and garden centres, doing the school run, going on public transport and joining in family days. There’s great support from Guide Dogs staff, plus puppy training classes for exchanging tips and ideas. “Meeting Derek Brockway was great fun, and he laughed when I said that I even take the puppies to the Elvis festival each year!” Find out more about volunteering as a guide dog puppy raiser at www.guidedogs.org.uk or ring 0345 143 0195. It’s the New Year… and, it’s our guess that you’re looking for something worthwhile to do in your spare time to support your local community. If so, having seen the Lions of Porthcawl in full swing during the festive season, you may be wondering what being a Lion is all about. Well, being a Lion is not all rattling collecting buckets on cold and windy shopping streets, although we do our fair share of that!! As Lions, we come together, roll up our sleeves and take action on projects to make our community a better place. Being a Lion is also about leading by example, building relationships and improving the world through kindness. Lions are part of a respected international “family” of over 1.3 million members, striving to make the world a better place. Porthcawl Lions have a varied programme of activities organised for 2019; and the first event is our annual Burns Night celebration at the Hi Tide on 25th January. NATIONAL COASTWATCH INSTITUTION – PORTHCAWL In November we welcomed BBC Weatherman Derek Brockway and the “Weatherman Walking” TV crew to the station. He spent an enjoyable few hours with us, even making one of our regular weather broadcasts on Channel 65 in his charismatic way! Our watchkeepers and the work of the station will be screened in the near future. A recent crew meeting included some excellent presentations from Porthcawl Surf School and Blast Kiteboarding which helped us better understand their activities, giving us an insight into risk identification. We thank both organisations for their time and valuable advice. In November we underwent our annual Declared Facility Status assessment. This rigorous process is necessary to assess our capabilities and whether we meet the stringent requirements set by HM Coastguard. We are pleased to announce that we passed the assessment and continue to be part of the national Search and Rescue structure. December saw us braced for the onslaught of Storm Diana with many photographs and video footage of our tower appearing on social media. As 2018 drew to a close, we had handled 62 incidents during the year, ranging from stranded porpoises to full Mayday scenarios, making us the second-busiest NCI station in the UK. Nick Weedon, Media Officer, Porthcawl NCI
TRINITY CHURCH We have enjoyed the Christmas seasons with the following events: We held our second crib festival in early December and many visitors enjoyed our display of Nativity scenes. Reverend Wynne Roberts returned for a Christmas Elvis concert on 7th and entertained us with Elvis Gospel songs and festive music. Over 30 of our members enjoyed an outing to Hampton Court on Saturday 8th December where they visited the food and craft stalls as well as exploring the palace. A Christmas themed Messy Church took place on Sunday 16th from 2-4pm. The children enjoyed activities, which included a Christmas Theme. The sessions continue every 3rd Sunday afternoon with games, art and crafts, stories, songs and fun. All are welcome to attend this free activity. Our annual Carol singsong evening took place in the Atlantic on 16th. This was supported by the choir and church members as well as many local Porthcawl people who enjoy Christmas music. The event was in aid of Action for Children. Our choir will perform at a special Epiphany service on 6th January where they will sing music from Stargazers. Full details of our services and other activities are available on our website or Facebook page. We are always delighted to welcome visitors and new members to our church. We wish everybody a Happy and healthy New Year. Alison Meredith Thomas Communication Secretary www.trinitychurchporthcawl.org

Legal advice YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED Q) I had an awful Christmas and New Year and cannot face continuing in my marriage any longer. I feel I am now ready to Divorce my wife. What should I do next? I am concerned about the financial settlement. A) I hear these sentiments from clients on a daily basis, many of whom have struggled to get through Christmas and New Year with their spouse and cannot face the year ahead. January is without doubt our busiest month for Divorces. However, Divorce is a big step and there will be a major impact on you, your wife and any children you have if you choose to take this step, which should not be taken lightly. Your family life will never be the same again so great care needs to be taken as to whether the relationship can be salvaged, for example, attending marriage guidance counselling. However, if you feel there is no going back, an initial appointment with a specialised Matrimonial Solicitor is advisable. The Solicitor will be able to advise on the options for filing for Divorce and provide advice regarding the division of assets. In readiness, I recommend that you collate your financial documents for example P60, Pay Slips, evidence of any Benefits, documentary evidence of all assets held in your name or jointly and the Cash Equivalent Transfer Values of all Pension funds. This will allow your Solicitor to give you general advice at the initial appointment regarding a financial settlement. At our firm, we offer an initial fixed fee appointment for up to 1 hour for £150 including Vat and will be able to discuss with you the fixed fee prices we offer in relation to Divorce proceedings. We can also advise on the likely cost of resolving the finances. Melanie Lazarus, Melanie Lazarus & Co

PROBATE ISSUES FOR ESTATES WITH FOREIGN ASSETS
It is not unusual for a person to hold assets which are located outside of the jurisdiction of England and Wales, whether it is foreign property or shares with a company which is based outside of the UK. For example if you have such a shareholding, you may not be aware of the fact that dealing with these assets after your death may prove complicated and costly for your Executors. It is not unusual for a foreign grant of probate to be required if assets are held overseas, and the cost may vary depending upon the specific requirements of that jurisdiction. The process may be speeded up if the deceased person had a separate will made under the foreign jurisdiction, but if not, the cost of administering such assets can escalate. The order in which the different applications for probate are made can have an impact upon the cost because some jurisdictions have a fast track procedure if a grant has already been obtained elsewhere. The cost of obtaining Probate is already controversial and from April 2019 the fees are set to change from a flat rate to a tiered system, which could increase the cost of the process for larger estates. Therefore it is a good idea to consider how you can mitigate some of the cost. It is advisable to check the position regarding your investments, especially as you may not have realised that the company in which you were investing was based outside of the UK. Then consider what will happen to your overseas assets if you die and which country’s legislation will apply to them. It may be advisable to consider bringing foreign assets “home” in order to avoid high fees. Alternatively, assets could be placed in trust in order to avoid probate issues. SEPARATION
When a relationship goes wrong, you can choose to separate rather than immediately applying for a divorce. You can separate straight away, without needing to involve the court or go through a lengthy divorce process. A trial separation gives you both breathing space to think about whether you do want a divorce or should try to make things better, for example by trying relationship counselling. It’s a good idea to set clear rules, agreeing what is acceptable while you are separated and how long the trial separation will last. Some couples see separation as a stepping-stone to divorce. For example, you might separate with the intention of later using two years’ separation as grounds for divorce. But if your marriage has irretrievably broken down, it may be better to recognise this and sort things out properly. Of course, neither of you is able to remarry while you are separated. Getting divorced allows you to sort out your financial arrangements and what will happen to the children in a more final way. If you are separating rather than divorcing, you should still sort out practical issues: who will stay in the family home, what your financial arrangements will be and what will be done about any children you have. Simply walking out on your spouse without any agreement is not a good idea, as it may mean your spouse has to take legal action (for example, to get financial support from you). A better approach is to have a separation agreement which should cover all the key issues, including: • sorting out any joint accounts or joint borrowings; • deciding who will live in the family home and perhaps splitting ownership; • agreeing who the children will live with and what contact the other parent will have; • agreeing any financial support to be provided by one spouse to the other; • sorting out any other financial issues (for example, any life insurance policies); • deciding whether you should draw up new wills. If your spouse walks out on you without any kind of agreement, you may want to consult us to discuss this. If you are financially dependent on your spouse, we can help ensure that you get the financial support you are entitled to. Even if you are happy to be on your own and don’t want financial support, it may be best to sort things out now. Call 01656 772211 or visit www.djm.law.co.uk

ChoraChori is making a real and sustainable difference to the lives of vulnerable and trafficked girls and young women through education and training to enable them to continue their education safely, enhance their employability and become role models and leaders of the future. The tree was decorated with beautiful gift pouches, which contained a felt heart shaped pocket to hold baby’s first tooth as a keepsake. NEWTON WI On Wednesday 5th December, Newton WI celebrated Christmas with the Annual Party. The tables were laid in ‘Festive Mode’ and the food simply delicious. Thanks to our President Jennifer and members of the Committee for all their impute. The evening’s entertainment was provided by the newly formed ‘Drama Group’, who performed the Twelve days of Christmas with a twist. It was hilarious as was Shirley’s poem, which preceded it. The amazing evening ended in a ‘Sing along’ with Father Christmas in attendance. November 22nd - the day had at last arrived for the Winter Outing to Abergavenny. On route we headed for the Celtic Manor for coffee, which was delightful. The weather was atrocious but did little to dampen our spirits. Most ladies had a successful shopping day, with Christmas lists completed. Arriving home rather soggy but happy. We would like to wish all our members a very ‘Happy Christmas’. M. Freeman
Deadline date for the February 2019 issue is Tuesday 15th January INNER WHEEL PORTHCAWL How quickly the time goes. Ho Ho Ho, yes it is all over for another year. We in IW had a lovely Christmas. The party for IW and Rotary club children was a success and enjoyed by all. Father Christmas attended and had gifts for all the children. The readings at the services in Monkton House and Picton Court were given by President Carol and Vice President Sheila. All Saints Church hosted the Rotary club Christmas tree festival where many beautifully decorated trees were exhibited. The exhibition had quite a few visitors during the week. Our next meeting will be on January the 8th at the Grove Country club. We have been urged to carry on knitting and any surplus wool you may have would be gratefully received. All that is left is to wish you all a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year. Suzanne Jefferies Club Correspondent

Business & finance SO MUCH TO DO AND MUCH TO LOOK FORWARD TO So, what a momentous year it’s been in many ways. Whilst Brexit may have dominated the headlines, everyone just seems to have ‘got on with it’ and there have been notable developments in the financial world, although any better returns on investments and savings have been hard to find. Mortgage rates have stayed at even lower levels although this can’t go on for ever so people on standard variable rates should get into new fixed rate deals before these disappear. Then we’ve had the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) at last performing a U-Turn on interest-only lending for those in their later years and who don’t have the wherewithal to switch to repayment mortgages. This is where responsible lending comes into its own, based on plausibility rather than set rules which can prevent worthy people from getting new finance. The later life market has bounded ahead and there is more choice and flexibility than ever before and lifestyle needs and other important needs are being met and about time too. Then for those in mid-life or indeed starting out in the world, especially where home ownership, family, etc., are concerned, as well as mortgages, the important things like life assurance cover have seen a vast improvement in what polices now offer, whilst the cost has become in many cases, much more competitive and many people have been improving their protection packages with us this year because of the greater choice on offer. As far as other important matters are concerned, there has been a massive upsurge in people taking responsibility by taking out Lasting Powers of Attorney, making and up-dating Wills and

Gardening advice LALESTON GARDENING CLUB NEWS
Two exciting things happen in our club at this time of year. First and foremost we begin to plan for our annual plant sale. We decide what produce we will grow based on last year’s successes as well as trying something a bit new or different for those plant lovers who want some variety. The other event is the announcement of when the fresh stock is being delivered to our club members’ shop, which we call the Cabin. It is an important date as it is when we can begin to buy compost ready for the most exciting event in the whole growing year – seed sowing! This anticipation is what keeps us gardeners going through these dark and gloomy months. Later in the month we will begin to see the new shoots of growth beginning to emerge through the soil – snowdrops herald the new gardening year even though some of the coldest weather is yet to come. Keeping an eye on the plot is essential as, for an example, a frozen pond now can be a death sentence for both fish and wildlife. New members are always welcome – find our more at lalestongardenclub.co.uk Joyce Pegg

CEFN CRIBWR GARDENING CLUB January Brrrr! Usually the coldest month of the year. January was named after the Roman God Janus, who had two faces so looked back and forward at the same time! Gardeners are born optimists: we look forward to the New Year convinced our gardens will do better than the last one (which I’m sure they will) There’s always jobs to be done – for those with heavy soil (poor you) this is the perfect time to dig, so that winter frosts can help break down the newly turned clods, but take is gently, digging is heavy work and you don’t have a hinge in your back! Leave the faded flower heads on your hydrangea until the spring, as they will provide protection to the swelling buds further down the stems. (I know, I know, not very pretty!) If you haven’t got water butt, try to install one, as rainwater is so much better for ericaceous plants than tap water, which is slightly alkaline. Did you know – Rabbits love liquorice – (maybe that’s an idea to stop them stealing your spring lettuce!) Happy New Year, and may all you troubles last as long as your New Year resolutions! MEDITATION IN DAILY LIFE Our minds are so receptive to many stimuli. It’s fascinating how a powerful colour, sound or taste can bring a flood of memories back to many past events. The stimulus, if unchecked can powerfully change behaviour. The first warm day of spring, the sensation of the sun’s rays warming the skin can result in the memory of drinking a cool pint of lager on a summer’s day. Before you know it, your at the bar drinking that pint! Meditation allows you to experience the sensation of the warming of the skin and allowing you to choose what you do with the memory of holding that pint! The memory of holding and slurping a pint is just a thought. It has no power. With time, those mental proliferations begin to stop. Every time a stimulus lands, we can investigate the stimulus and the proliferation. With time we see that they are separate events. Then with patience, sitting in the sun, is just its ‘bare’ activity. Life is stripped back to many bare experiences and the mind is not flooded with lots of other mental activity. Constantly allowing attention to meet the object in the mind gives us the characteristics of ‘truth’. We begin to realise that the world and its proliferations are not as solid and as believable as they first appear. The practice - In your daily life note the proliferation coming and going in your mind. Neville Evans

Arts & music PORTHCAWL MALE CHOIR
The Choir is currently building up to a busy ‘carols’ fortnight running up to Christmas, culminating in our Annual Carol Service at Arlington Road Church. This service is regularly held for the church members to whom we are very grateful for allowing us to use the church for our rehearsals twice a week throughout the year. The buffet provided by the Ladies Section on the evening for friends and families is always a treat. The end of the year is tinged with sadness, with the sudden loss of Beryl Cullen, who was a friend and accompanist to the choir for many years and will be sadly missed. Our thoughts go out to John and his family. Our thoughts are also with Jill Dixon whose husband Ray, a long time fixture in the bottom bass, is very poorly in hospital. The New Year will kick off on 4th January with the learning of new pieces for the repertoire, an ideal time to join our ranks for anyone interested in singing (with a good social side as an add on). This year has already seen 5 new potential members. 2019 will see tours to Cornwall and Leicestershire. Contact John Jones Secretary johnj.mairj@hotmail.co.uk Tel 07989 461122
A COLOURFUL PERFORMANCE
The Mid-Glamorgan Savoyards’ production of “The Yeomen of The Guard” reached new heights on Saturday evening. A packed Pavilion welcomed the regulars on stage and in the pits. The Yeomen themselves, resplendent in their colourful uniforms, provided a strong and united backdrop for the soloists. The members of the cast were possessed not only of superb voices but also dramatic presence, conveying humour and pathos. Everything about this production sparkled. Congratulations go to the stage director, Rob Reynolds. Movement around the stage was smooth and having some of the duets, trios and quartets to the front of stage and singing directly to the audience, meant we were able to fully engage with their polished singing. 50 | seaside news
This is not to forget the chorus, both on stage and in the pit. Enthusiastic, energetic singing and confident stage presence marked their performance. Roger Hudd, who kept up a lively tempo throughout, conducted the whole performance. This year the excellent orchestra contained a number of players from local schools, which gave them valuable experience. The profit from this year’s production will finally be just over £1500 and will go to Kidney Research Wales, Prostate Cymru and Macmillan Cancer Support. Dominique Spearey
STAG’S WORLD OF ROCK Hope you all had a fab Xmas. It was great to catch up with some of my old music buddies. Mike Aston made a fleeting visit from his home in America and we had a few beers. Like myself, he hails from Cornelly and found success with his twin brother Jay in their band “Gene Loves Jezebel” in the 80s. They were big in the USA and still have a cult following all over the world. Sadly, there are two versions of the band, as the twins haven’t spoken for years after various lawsuits regarding the group’s name. Jay’s “Gene Loves Jezebel” is touring this month and the nearest date is at The Fleece in Bristol on 17th January. Dale Williams, my long-time writing partner, was over from the Czech Republic and we worked on a few new songs. He’s also set up a Stag and Dale’s Secret Army Facebook site with videos and songs to download, if you used to be fans. I’ll be gazing into my crystal ball next month to see what local bands and artists to keep an eye out for, so please keep your calls and texts coming with your original music news. A FILM MAKER’S POINT OF VIEW Downwood Films will be making a short cycling safety film in the early part of 2019, in which the main purpose is to draw attention to the woeful lack of safe cycling routes in this country and the fact that cyclists have to use roads which are often in a dangerous state of disrepair instead of having properlydedicated paths. Why am I doing this? Because I cycle regularly around Porthcawl, often two or three times a day, not only for the benefit of keeping fit but also to carry out errands, and I am constantly irritated by the disgraceful state of our road surfaces, with potholes, poorly patched-up roadworks and sunken kerbside drains. The news is constantly telling us about climate change and the doom-laden consequences we appear to be facing so we know we need to change our ways of travelling about, but why can we not copy the example of Utrecht in the Netherlands which puts cyclists before motorised vehicles? If you and your family or friends would like to appear in the Porthcawl scenes in the film, please email me at anthonyhontoir@hotmail.co.uk for more details. PYLE & PORTHCAWL PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY We recently held our annual Club Competition One, which is split into two sections, Prints and Digital Images, with a trophy for each. Members could enter two images into each section. Rob Greenhill judged both competitions, and not only awarded the points, but also provided an excellent critique on each image. The winner of the Print Trophy was Glyn Edmunds with ‘Julia’. The winner of the Digital Trophy was William Baker with ‘South American Fur Seal’. Congratulations to both Glyn and William for winning the competitions. We’re a very friendly camera club with a mix of male & female members and welcome new members of all ages and skill levels; it’s all very informal. So if you have an interest in photography why not come along and join us on Thursday evenings at 7:30pm at St Clare’s School, Newton CF36 5NR . RUNNERS LOOKING FORWARD TO 2019
PENYBONT SURF LIFE SAVING CLUB
On the back of a memorable last 12 months, the Porthcawl Runners are certainly looking forward to 2019. The club training plans are currently focusing around parkrun and, for the more confident or experienced, there is a plan towards next month’s Llanelli half marathon. And, given that the number of run leaders has grown even further over the past month with Dave Bennett, Louise Mordue and Hannah Bowen all stepping forward to help with training, the club now has the coaching capacity to grow the membership even further this year. The back end of 2018 saw a good turnaround for a number of events, including the Merthyr Mawr Pudding Run, Run4All Santa Aberavon 5k run and the annual New Year’s Eve 5k jaunt around Mountain Ash – Nos Galan. There was also plenty of fun to be had with the club’s very own Santa handicap run that took place before Christmas. Meanwhile the club has started up its walking group again for those looking for a gentler pace over the winter months. Congratulations to club member Nicola Ward who achieved her 100 parkrun milestone at Swansea last month and also to Mandy Dumagnee and Marny Mainwaring on their 50 milestones. Carl Field
Penybont SLSC held its end of season Junior and Senior presentation evening at Bridgend Rugby Club last month to celebrate the clubs achievements throughout the year. Welsh caps were presented to club members who represented SLSA Wales by Club Captain Craig Robinson and Team Managers Tomi Turner and Cerys Rudall. Meriel Clode and Rhys Wydenbach were Team Captains and eight other club members were: Ashley Lewis, Lloyd Rosewell, Millie Wiggins, Abbie Carson, Tomi Turner, Amelie Clode, Lewis Rosewell and Ioan Evans. Dylan Wisden and Sean Evans were reserves. Five members represented SLA Great Britain at the World Championships in Adelaide, Australia. They were Ashley Lewis, Meriel Clode, Rhys Wydenbach, Lewis Rosewell and Millie Wiggins. Ashley and Lewis won a Bronze for the board rescue event and Meriel and Rhys won a Bronze for the Mixed Taplin event. Millie came 4th in the beach sprint. A fantastic achievement. Trophies were presented to members for Club Loyalty and Most Improved. The SLSA Wales Stillwater Wilkinson Sword, the Ocean Wilkinson Sword for Club Aggregates and the SLSA Wales Super Club of the Year was presented to Craig Robinson and Cerys Rudall by the club Chairman Mike Allen.
Deadline date for the February 2019 issue is Tuesday 15th January
