GARDENING
CEFN CRIBWR GARDENING CLUB
Spring usually arrives mid- March (if we’re lucky!) warmer weather and sunnier days mean more gardening tasks. We also welcome the lovely daffodil, no flower heralds spring quite like to golden daffodil, and it represents rebirth and new beginnings, wonderful! Sow parsnips as soon as the soil warms up, they are notoriously erratic at germinating so sow plenty. Time to plant onion and shallot sets too, making sure the beds are free of weeds so they don’t have to compete for nutrients as this will affect their size! Try planting strawberries in a hanging basket so that even the most acrobatic slug can’t get at the fruit! Delicious and pretty too! Guess what? Time to start mowing the lawn again once they start back into growth (my husband will be thrilled!) Split clumps of primroses after they die down and plant in an odd corner ready to replant somewhere pretty next spring, fab flowers. But did you know – they were Disraeli’s favourite • Grass Cutting flower, every year on primrose • Hedge Trimming day, April 19th, primroses are • Tree Services • Turfing placed on his statue outside, • Decorative Gravel Westminster Abbey, isn’t that • Fencing lovely. All being well we hope to be up and running again soon and look forward to seeing your RELIABLE LOCAL SERVICE then. Call Rhys

LALESTON GARDENING CLUB
Spring is here at last, the daffodils are in bloom and it’s a time of new beginnings. Even if we are still having to stay close to home in these difficult times, when the weather permits at least our gardens and allotments can provide us with a worthwhile pastime and therapy too. Jobs for March are a plenty, lawns can have their first cut (weather permitting), and onion sets, shallots and early potatoes can be planted. Plant summer flowering bulbs, lift and divide overgrown perennials, cut back dogwoods and those weeds will start to appear so good to keep them under control. Containers can be top dressed with new compost. Watch our Facebook page for news about our shop - we will be open for business as soon as permitted. Remember plants will be available to buy from the Gardening Club first week in May and news of how we will run that sale will be published nearer the time. Stay safe everyone and do stay in touch.
