HIGH STYLE ON THE OPEN ROAD
Just because RV has the word “vehicle” in it doesn’t mean it’s the same as a car, it’s much more like a “tiny home”. There are so many ways that you can infuse your rig (that’s what the cool kids call it) with your personal style! Just like interior home spaces, paint is going to be your best friend. If the rig is outdated, it probably has a dark interior. Brighten up the space by repainting the interior then layer on the decorative elements like rugs, textiles, art and even custom window treatments.

Interior designer RACHEL MORIARTY renovated a 22" Airstream Bambi for a client and shares her top takeaways for transforming your own RV or camper.
PRO TIP: USE Command Strips as hooks and also to hang light canvas art. Also make sure everything that you bring in can easily be stored behind locked doors because the inside of an RV is kind of like an earthquake inside when it’s going down the road at 70 mph.

his year, we saw a growing demand for recreational vehicles and travel trailers in the US in large part due to the recent pandemic. Individuals and families rethought how to regain a sense of freedom during quarantine. With an RV, they could travel safely and roam the country while remaining socially distant. The thing about these recreational vehicles is that the interior can either be outdated or basic. Similar to what designers would call “builder basic” in the home industry. Since an RV is truly your home away from home, you should elevate your experience by personalizing it as you would your home. Just like a home, you can
make modifications to the layout of the interior. For example, if you have an online business, you may want to reconfigure the space to accommodate a small office zone. I have a client that travels with her two large poodles, so we transformed the dinette area into a large sectional seating area for lounging. Finally, consider joining a Facebook group (or two) that focuses on RV Renovation. I didn’t even know that these existed before I became an Airstream renovator! Search for Facebook groups that focus on Airstreams such as “Airstream Interiors” or “Airstream Addicts”. The groups can be very inspiring but more importantly they’re an excellent resource when you run into the inevitable snafu that comes with renovating.
