It’s no big secret the sun sets every day. Then, the moon comes out. This constant cycle brings forth new memories, opportunities to grow and shared experiences. The Earth moves around, and the moon cycles through its phases. Much like how we move through life and cycle through phases of passions, love and interests. These lunar influences can come through at many points in our life including through horoscopes and celebrations as well as those aspects that naturally come with the night: sleep, dreams, nightmares and shadows. Some live by these influences, like those who follow the lunar calendar, and others may see minimal impacts, through moon and space inspired clothing: metallics and monochrome. No matter how big or small this lunar impact is in one’s life, it brings us all together. Differences in passions, dislikes and ideas melt away when we experience phases of the moon or phenomenons like lunar eclipses. In times where the world may seem divided, it is important to step back, look at the beauty of the world and admire what brings us all together. Lunar strives to remind us of that and celebrate the beauty of the influences of the moon.

The Pisces sign is characterized by the fish. This water sign is sensitive in the best and worst ways possible. They also have a deep appreciation for art. Wear the art you love. Whether it be prints or dresses with ruffles, visuals are an important part of your life. Look for sheer fabric, or anything baby blue for an extra ethereal look.

Pluto rules the Scorpio. This water sign can seem mysterious or hard to read. They have a magnetic energy and are trend-setters. Like a scorpion, you have a protective outer shell. Shield yourself with a classic denim jacket paired with your favorite top. Add to your mystery with dark, moody Cancer (June 21 – July 22) As natural nurturers, Cancers are very colors, like Navy blue. Pop on a pair of connected with their loved ones. They oversized sunglasses for a complete look. can be very sentimental, ensitive, and are in touch with their emotions. Embrace your sensitivity and let your emotions rule your style. Feeling moody? Try a monochromatic blackout outfit all the way down to your biker boots. On a sunny spring day, veer towards items with primary color blocking. Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
This air sign is notorious for being perceived by others as two-faced, as Gemini’s weakness includes indecisiveness and inconsistency. But others fail to realize that Gemini is ruled by the planet Mercury, the planet of communication and brotherly love. Geminis put forth maximum effort to maintain relationships. Connect with your inner Gemini by merging your versatility with your style. Don’t be afraid to attempt different looks. Pair your relaxed skater jeans with a feminine top. Aquarians are great communicators and have humanitarian-like qualities. Often progressive and open-minded, they love being around different kinds of people and bringing them together. You have a positive energy. With spring right around the corner, you can wear colors that radiate that energy. Try an outfit of one or many pastels. People of air signs look great in light colors. Layering is key due to unpredictable spring weather, so pair with a casual, cool sneaker since you’re always on the go.

As depicted by a scale, Libras constantly keep a golden mean, staying away from extremities in their lives. When the scale is tipped, they can be uninvolved or bossy. Keep the balance in your life by mixing loud and soft pieces. Metallic jackets look chic over a solid shirt. A matching belt, shoe and earrings are a great way to keep balance while completing a look. Adding white sneakers can dress down any outfit, keeping a casual feel and soothing the fear of tipping the scale.
Capricorn (December 22 – January 19) Hardworking Capricorns always stick to what they know and find comfort in their practices. They are responsible and show incredible self-control. This can cause Capricorns to be condescending to those who do not exhibit those traits. Let your guard down and wear something you usually wouldn’t, like bold patterns. Taurus is ruled by the planet Venus, which controls love, beauty, and money, but looks beyond superficiality. People under this sign love devotion and things that please the senses. Since they are on a constant quest of comfortability, steer towards things that feel good on the skin. Soft sweatshirts in your favorite color paired with a good quality, long lasting, ripped black jeans will satisfy a Taurus’ sensitivities to texture and comfort. Too simple? Swap the jeans for versatile biker shorts. Don’t shy away from the color green Taurus!

Virgos tend to stay in their head and analyze themselves and their surroundings. However, Virgos are dedicated, dependable, and will follow through with their plans and promises. Fashion can be a chance to get out of your head. Use your analytical side to play with colors and patterns. Stand out in textures of neutral or earthy colors, earth sign. A grey shag or faux fur coat, or brown corduroy pants work well with this sign. Add some green nature-inspired jewelry. Mixing textures, patterns and accessories can bring together an outfit.
Leo (July 23 - August 22) Strong-willed and determined, Leos are constantly working, but rarely take time to decompress. Because of their self confidence and leadership, Leos have trouble accepting others’ ideas and can be stubborn. Take pride in your creativity. As a fire sign, red is your power color. Red sunglasses or a red statement bag will accentuate your powerful personality. Take it to the extreme with a monochrome red outfit, or radiate your warmth in hues of orange and yellow.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)
Aries (March 21 April 19) Known for their exciting and energetic nature, an Aries stands out. Sometimes stubborn and confrontational, an Aries has no problem expressing their feelings. They are not afraid to take risks, knowing that the crowd will admire or even envy them. Bold accessories are necessary for this fire sign, such as kitsch-inspired earrings, statement handbags, or anything red. Elevate your look with a pair of white chunky sneakers.
People under this sign are fast-paced and full of high energy. They are confident in their abilities to perform, but often overconfident in the results of their performance. Show your confidence in a black turtleneck tucked into a high waisted jean. Make a statement with a cowboy buckle belt. Add a pair of heeled boots and you’ll be ready to rule. DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT Sandy Liang
A 2013 Parson’s alumnus, Sandy Liang has been subtly creating waves in New York’s fashion scene since the launch of her eponymous brand only a year after her graduation. Inspired by the “effortlessness of Chinatown grandmas” (GQ), her frilly, structured pieces have an element of freshness that the fashion world needs. Her recent rise to fame can be contributed to her creative spin on the classic Patagonia fleece, reworking the well-known silhouette with bright floral jacquard, leopard print, and textured leather accents. Although Liang states that she “hated” the fleece jackets as a child (GQ), she decided to add it to her repertoire, never dreaming of how popular they would become. She told the New York Times, “I was, like, why would you buy my fleece if you could buy one at any other store for much less?”
But people did buy them, gleefully choosing the punchy and whimsical accents by Liang over the tried and true style. Along with her clever designs, Liang’s use of “non-models” and genderless styling cements her place in the new brood of fashion stars: unfussy, unpretentious, and full of new ideas. Her Fall/ Winter 2019 show introduced a men’s line—although most of her clothes are already described as unisex—with asymmetrical floral dresses, feminine gingham, and even more remixes to her signature fleece. The star of the show, however, was Liang’s grandmother, who models the famous fleece on Liang’s website: “She had such a good time. People were taking photos of her, and she low-key loved it.” (NYT) It’s obvious that Sandy Liang is just getting started. Meagan Wilson

STUDENT DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT Autumn Siney DGNERIT Fashion
For the Student Designer spotlight, I interviewed Autumn Siney, an art student here at IU, about her brand DGNERIT Clothing, which features handmade and repurposed clothing and accessories. Firstly, what does fashion mean to you? A: “Fashion is one of the most widely noticeable forms of self-expression. It can be completely unique to any individual. I have personally always loved feeling creative and unique, I love color and standing out. I love the shock of looking different from others and being completely myself.” How have you incorporated that into your own clothing? A: “All of the clothing that I make are one of a kind pieces, I may reuse some prints but it’s all my own photography and artwork. I try to use images that I personally like aesthetically or seem relatively uncommon, we live in a world where it feels like everything has already been done.. so.. I try to do something else.” How long have you been making your own clothing? Are there particular moment that you can remember that impassioned you to design? A: “I’ve always been making my own clothing to some extent. Specifically adding my own art and flare to clothing that was already in existence. That’s what I still do, just upcycle stuff. I remember ripping my jeans from the ankle to my pocket playing
limbo in middle school on accident, I went home and used embroidery thread to sew up the hole in a spider web looking fashion so you could still see my leg though the three foot hole. Some people thought it was ridiculous some people loved it. I loved it. I still have them today.” Can you describe your favorite piece that you’ve done so far and what your inspiration was? A: “I don’t know if I currently have a favorite but I have some upcoming ideas I’m really excited about. I’ve really liked scanning and printing edited versions of drawings I’ve made to add to shirts and pants recently more so than my questionable photography prints. I love it all. Makes it hard to sell them but it’s so fun to see people wearing my art.” How has living in Bloomington shaped the way you think about and wear clothing? Can you talk about how that has impacted your brand? A: “I think Bloomington has let me expand more creatively than I may have elsewhere. I went to relatively inclusive schools that didn’t have strict dress codes and let me express
myself freely. My parents are also influential as my dad is a local artist and helped spark much of my artistic 2D talents and my mother being an ex-punk rocker chick was an old DIY goddess so nature and nurture were both on my side I guess.” Do you have any favorite materials, themes, or color schemes to work into your designs? A: “I love printing true images a lot, not just screen printing but like making my own patches. As far as colors I’ve been drawn to bold solid colors like reds and yellows, always love black and white, also pastels. I want to incorporate more chains, gems, charms into my work. Possibly also handmade pins that I may add to some pieces.” We also really like metallics, the mainstream emergence of streetwear and Victorian-inspired pieces. What are your favorite trends at the moment? A: “I don’t like trends haha, I always fall into them but I like to always be a step ahead of, or more unique than, what is currently fashionably in or expectable. I do have to admit that I have always loved the ridiculous styles of the 90’s, so now that such things are coming back around I’m honestly about it.
Staying local is very important to me as well, I feel like what makes clothing unique in a world with over production and consumption is making clothing that already exists better by hand. And I hope that this becomes the new trend rather than buying from big stores. There is so much clothing that’s already produced and so much room for creativity in this world.” What would you say to those interested in starting their own clothing line? Any advice, words of wisdom or rookie mistakes to avoid? A: “It’s hard putting yourself out there… and it’s hard keeping motivation high, but it’s worth the work. If you apply yourself and reach out to people and continue making things even when you aren’t selling your stuff left and right you’ll be okay, Just enjoy it for what it is and keep it up, there’s always someone who appreciates and likes what you’re doing.” Lastly, how can we at SEASON and our readers connect with you and support your craft?
A: “I’m currently selling my clothing through my Instagram @ dgnerit.clothing and I’m accepting payment through Venmo and Cashapp but I’ll be setting up a Depop soon and possibly other Are you interested in growing your brand or does staying local online selling platforms. Metallic makeup looks stunning on all skins tones. The best thing about metallics are their versatility. From one metallic eyeshadow pan you can get an eyeshadow, lip topper and an eyeliner. To get the most use out of a metallic color, an important thing to keep in mind is the undertone of your skin. Undertones are the colors that lie underneath the skin and affect the overall complexion categorized as cool, warm and neutral.
Undertones vary across all skin shades. It is possible to have a dark complexion and have cool undertones just as it is possible to have a light complexion and have warm undertones. One way to find your undertone is to turn your palm up and look at your veins in your wrist. If your veins appear more blue, you likely have cool undertones. If they look green, you’re warm.
Skin reactions and jewelry can also determine undertones. Do you tan easily or burn quickly? If you tan, you have warm undertones. If you burn, you have cool. Do you tan and burn? You have neutral. Which flatters you more, gold or silver jewelry? Silver pairs nicely with cool and gold with warm tones. Do you look great in both? You likely have neutral undertones.
Cool colors like blue, green, and purple, lay beautifully on cool undertones, while red and orange do the same for warmer undertones. Silver metallics works well with cool undertones, giving an icy, cold effect. Gold and copper lay nicely on warm and neutral undertones, giving skin a sunkissed glow.

Clothing, Clardy is unafraid to experiment with unconventional colors, patterns, and materials. Almost anything is fair game to be included in Clardy’s closet including turtleneck sweaters, beaded bracelets, soccer jerseys and floral button-downs. At the core, Dexter considers comparing his stagewear and everyday wear to be more like comparing Fuji apples to Gala apples.
