ESPN SPORTSCENTER TOP 10

Thursday, Februrary 4 | Seattle University makes its first appearance on the ESPN SportsCenter Top-10 list, coming in at number 6 as sophomore Brendan Westendorf drains a 40-foot jumper at the buzzer securing a home conference win and setting KeyArena into a frenzy. It was the perfect way to usher in Homecoming weekend.

CAMPUS SPIRIT The all-time campus attendance record was shattered this year when the No. 10 Washington Huskies came to Championship Field in September. More than 1,800 packed a soldout Championship Field to see the Redhawks defeat the Huskies, with approximately 1,000 students in attendance. We packed the house again for a historic NCAA Second Round win over UCLA. Attendance by students at KeyArena was up 13% over the previous season. This is the second consecutive year of increased student attendance for men’s basketball.

CONNOLLY COMPLEX For the first time since its opening in 1968, the Connolly Complex received a major renovation as a part of the university’s commitment to gender equity. The renovation project cost was $8.5 M. The new Connolly Complex boasts a completely reconfigured game court and chairback seating, with visual technology and an exciting ambiance. Along with new team areas, the project also included fan amenities such as conveniently located restrooms and a dramatically enhanced concessions area. It is a place of Redhawk pride, for all.

RED TIE CELEBRATION In its fourth year, the Red Tie Celebration was a memorable and record-breaking evening at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel, with more than $510,000 raised to support SU student-athletes. The evening honored two of the greatest golfers in Seattle University’s history: Pat Lesser Harbottle, ‘56 and Orrin Vincent, ‘67. Men’s soccer’s Hamza Haddadi, ‘16 captivated the capacity audience with authenticity, humor, and inspirational stories. Overall, Athletics, with help from many friends and supporters, raised a record amount of more than $2.1 M for the year.
