THE EDWARDIAN GAZETTE Message from the Headmaster
Dear Parents and Community Members I trust that you all were able to attend the Consultation days. These are invaluable as the challenges and successes can be ‘put on the table’ for all to see. Obviously, we have many students working to their capacity; others are working a little below while a small minority put little effort into study and maximum effort into excuse-making. What I have described would not be breaking news. However, if we work together, all standards can be raised. On the topic of academics, years 11 and 13 are approaching their public exams. It is important that all students attend College on a daily basis this term. Teachers have prepared full revision programmes, copies of which can be obtained from the relevant teachers. These revision programmes include past papers which, of course, will greatly assist.
Thank you Michael Chittenden Headmaster

THE EDWARDIAN GAZETTE Kindergarten Carnival Shortly before the Mid-Term break, the children at Kindergarten celebrated Carnival. They spent the week leading up to it talking about Carnival and preparing crafts and masks. One morning was dedicated to facepainting and the children were almost unrecognizable as little Indians, ladybirds, artists and pirates! On the last day of school the children and their teachers came in their Carnival costumes. After some games, the children enjoyed the party food with their friends. Julie Mangion Head of Kindergarten

The Holy Land is a wonderful place to visit, especially during the Christmas period and Good Friday as it is full of historical and religious sites. One of the major ones my family and I recently visited was Jerusalem. There were a lot of people there, especially Christians going up the Via Dolorosa. Along the way of the Via Crucis, at the fifth station, where Jesus met Simon of Cyrene, there is imprinted the mark where Jesus leaned on the wall. Within the Holy Sepulchre church, we saw the spot upon which Jesus was crucified and later touched the stone where they laid Jesus before they buried him. I enjoyed seeing the Jews pray and perform their ceremonies at the Wailing Wall. We next went to the Garden of Gethsemane and approached the tree where Jesus sweated blood. Unfortunately the tree was encircled by a barrier and so we couldn’t touch it. We walked to where Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss and also saw the church dedicated to Mary Magdalene. At Jesus’ birthplace, Bethlehem, I had the honour to put my hand on the spot where Jesus’ manger stood. Another important place we visited was Nazareth. There, I was amazed to see two churches that appeared to have been built on top of each other and paintings from all over the world showing scenes from the life of the Holy Family. The next day we went to the Jordon River. It was raining cats and dogs and the river was a bit rough. Afterwards, we stopped at the oldest city in the world, Jericho, which is 10,000 years old. On our last day we visited the Sea of Galilee where Jesus walked on the water, preached to the crowds and performed the miracle to help the fishermen catch fish. Finally, we drove down to the Dead Sea where all of us dipped our hands in the very, very salty water and smiled at two Korean men who were swimming. This trip was one of the best trips ever because I had the chance to see with my own eyes the places where Jesus walked, lived, loved and died.
