ENERGY EFFICIENT BUILDING DESIGN FARMHOUSE IN ร ATALCA Fall 2017-2018 4th Year Construction Project Prof. Dr. Alpin Kรถknel Yener Assist. Seda Kaรงel Istanbul Tecnical University

FARMHOUSE IN ÇATALCA Movable sliding walls and partially openable roof system are the main decisions of this project. These ideas were supported by the designed systems.

U Values: Roof External wall Ground Basement ceiling The systems:

0,17 W/m2K 0,27 W/m2K 0,31 W/m2K 0,44 W/m2K

Geothermal source heat pump, photovoltaic panel(roof window), Rainwater harvesting, Passive ventilation 6 / 4th year construction project / fall 2017-2018

Climate change determines the organisation of the house. In winter it act like a total house. In summer, rotatable external walls open. The corridor becomes an open street and passive cooling can be accomplished by the fresh air circulation around each unit such as living room, kitchen, bedrooms. These changes on structural elements redefine the spaces.

Figure 1.2

fall 2017-2018 / 4th year construction project / 7

The movable sliding walls provide an opportunity to changing the dimensions of the units according to the activity. By sliding walls through the living room and working room, workshop area arises in corridor. Because of this open and closed types of the house each wall act as an external wall.

The variations of walls, plans and roof system has effects on spaces. Corridor is transforming to an open space when the walls slided and the roof opened. Conditions are changing such as; air vantilation and light transmission. When it is closed it is still taking controlled light into corridor. The light reach to each units. Pv panels on windows producing energy. Required slope for pv panels is provided when the roof is opened

URBAN LINKAGE IN ATATURK OTO SANAYI Fall 2017-2018 4th Year Project Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurbin Paker Kahvecioğlu Assist. Pelin Işık Istanbul Tecnical University

URBAN LINKAGE IN MASLAK ATATURK OTO SANAYI

Maslak AtatĂźrk Oto Sanayi site has been standing along 50 years. Even the surrounding has changed in these years, the site has retain its function. This conversion of the surrounding, invites to the change for the places which are relatively old.

Figure 2.1

Industrial areas are the most exposed parts in the city. Urbanisation brings with new centres. By this way, the industrial places which were built in the suburbans, now locating in the centres.

The characteristic of the area comes from its function. The protection of the function and increasing the possibilities are the main aims of this project. Understanding both the topography and the relation between industrial buildings and topography were most important points in the process. Consequently, The re-adaptation of the site with keeping the current situation such as the original function and buildings, adopting the place by urbaners are the expectations of this proposal.

PEACE BUILDING - FLOW OF TARLABASI Spring 2015-2016 2nd Year Project Assoc. Prof. Aslıhan Şenel Collective Imaginations Studio https://collectiveimaginations.wordpress.com Istanbul Tecnical University

FLOW OF TARLABASI

Being in safe and peace is gradually increasing while getting into interior in these days. As a result of this attitude, individual and society are disintegrated by evident borders. Flow of Tarlabaşı, seeks that the building peace potential of the intermediary spaces which are in between the private spaces and public spaces. The intermediary spaces that maintain their daily life, provides connection

42 / 2nd year project / spring 2015-2016

between the neighbourhood and residents. The space can take form according to the demand of the user. The structure made of composite material supply elasticity of this space (Fig. 3.7.3). The frequency of the structure’s netting increases while the areas are getting private so this system creates

constant and changeable areas. Transition between common areas and private areas, the structure’s netting get loose. The load that arises from the users on the flooring transfers by cables to the vertical structure, this transmission provide a change on the structures netting and the spaces.

CECI N’EST PAS UNE TOILETTE

At the beginning of the project Taksim square analyzed and mapped according to specific situations and spontaneous activities.

46 / ceci n’est pas une toilette / spring 2015-2016

According to the analysis the project settles down inbetween Taksim square and Gezi parkı. While the structure was closed and using as a toilet, the outside walls produce streets that people can pass by. The movement as a result of usage creates different possibilities for common spaces. The 2,5 dimensional plan expresses the idea of movement with its rotatable wall lines from their joints.

This topography is available for people who pass by, specially come there to find missing stuff or want to spend time while using dropped and collected wares at midnight. There is a junkwoman who is the single resident of this topography. She is configuring these dropped and collected stuffs by the help of this topoghraphy. Only her living unit is stable but the rest is rolling 360 degrees according to the sunlight. The topoghrapy. can’t be 50 / 2nd year project / fall 2015-2016

Besides these waste wares and dropped stuffs getable so it is servicing as a waste ware storage and variously as a place using stuffs commonly.

here is a yard which is in between buildings and two perpendicular street. People are using this People couldn’t use this yard L shaped yard for passing and spending time with wares. Now it is open for everyone. because it was using as a storage and it has barriers whole openness except the entry for the junkman to put in the wares.

Why should constructions take up space on the ground? How does it achieve to come into existence by not standing an stealing from the site?

HABITABLE MYTH

It initiates a new topography for this yard, while it has convex and concave faces which provides hagridden’s belongings to be slipped. It has Open spaces which are enable to people to walk on and close places like saccus where the wares are collecting. These open topo is made of natural wood and the saccus areas are made of a material is effecting from sunlight. During the day it absorbs the energy and when 52 / 2nd year project / fall 2015-2016

the night comes it lights up and create an amorphous place. These amorphous surfaces are also generates heat and deliver habitable environment. The contents are changing temporally so the topogra‌ too. It is such a space that open for everyone, addable(handed or fallen wares), takable(taken wares by the users), related to sunlight and compatible with surrounding. Preserving the missions of waste ware collecting with the difference of not encompassing. It initiates an unimpaired nature, be located and in the same time not occupy, opportunity to access to sky.

There is only two contacting point to the ground which are access points for people in both ends. It consist of ramps which have proper slope for people and help feel the sorcery of the sky and garden and also cause them to drop their belongings. By overlapping of the two ramp, one step is taking shape. Words, drawings and model is using at the same expression. So the project has no ground, groundless is emphasising in topography models and sections. Continuous section is narrate ciculation.
