Be All Smiles at Your Wedding... Kristo Orthodontics Can Help A
midst all the other details and choices and plans for your big day, consider orthodontic treatment to prepare your teeth, and your smile. Kristo Orthodontics, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, offers experienced consultation and treatment for your big day.
is that it is not about aesthetics (or cosmetics), it is about function. Someone could have perfectly straight teeth but also have an overbite, underbite, or other issue that is causing them health issues. It is extremely important to have that taken care of for the overall health of your body.” The folks at Kristo Orthodontics look forward to working with you. “Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, and we are here to help make that day even more special with the smile you have always wanted,” Larson says. “When you come in for your initial exam with us, we will do a scan of your teeth, which will give us the opportunity to show you what your smile would look like at the end of your treatment. You can see the movement of all of your teeth.”
If this kind of treatment is something you’d like to include in your wedding preparation, it’s important to begin the process as early as possible. Michelle Larson, one of the staff at Kristo, encourages couples to come in for a free consultation. “We would suggest you come in at least a year before the wedding date to discuss your options.” One treatment couples might want to consider is teeth whitening, and while Kristo does not do this in office, they do offer whitening kits for purchase.

The most common treatment brides and grooms to-be seek is teeth straightening and function correction. This might include Invisalign or metal braces. The timeline for these procedures will vary, depending on each person’s particular needs. Larson notes: “Depending on what needs to be done, Invisalign will probably have a shorter time frame, and they are clear, so you could wear them the day of your wedding and no one would even know you have them in. If you choose to go with metal braces, we offer the option to have them off for your wedding, as there is normally only a year between engagement and wedding, and most orthodontic treatment continues for 18–24 months.” Orthodontic treatment may be something to include in your wedding budget. Larson advises: “Some insurance plans do cover adult orthodontic treatment as part of their dental coverage. That is something that we can go over in more detail with you at your free consultation. We also offer flexible finance plans. That means there is no down payment and you pay $189 a month for the cost of treatment. Costs vary, and we would never want to quote a price without speaking with the orthodontist and allowing him to create a customized treatment plan just for you.” While it is more common for brides to seek orthodontic treatment, grooms sometimes do too. “Not as many men as women seek orthodontic treatment before a wedding, but we do have several couples that are in treatment together right now,” Larson says. “One of the things that is important to remember with orthodontic care

Beat the Heat with
Succulents
Wedding season starts to rev up its speed in June, just like the summer heat. The most popular floral
options, like peonies, hydrangeas, and roses prefer the cooler temperatures and will many times wilt before too long in the sun. So it makes sense to consider heat-tolerant floral options when planning, especially in Wisconsin when Mother Nature changes her mind in a flash. May’s Floral of Eau Claire, says, “With their unique and natural versatility, succulent popularity is soaring. Succulents provide a touch of color, texture, and style. They are hardy and a refreshing alternative to flowers. Surprisingly they come in a variety of colors ranging from shades of green and grey to soft pink and purple.” Yes, mini jade plants do much more than look cute on your reception tables. Add them into your bouquet for a statement-making and heat-loving option. The parting gift of a potted Rosette - Echeveria Perle is one your guests will love for years.
Terra cotta pots filled with green-and-pink succulents are the perfect favor. Upgrade them with a pretty tag or note written straight onto the pot like this one from Cynthia Chung Photography.

Wisconsin summers can be mild or intense, so if you’re worried of the heat ruining your bouquet, go for one oversized succulent surrounded by greenery like this example from KT Merry Photography.
Potted succulents become the perfect summer place card for each guest as seen by Coralie Lescieux Photography.
DIY lovers will go gagga over this fantastic décor idea. Find oversized letters at your local craft store and create a statement-making décor element by planting mixed succulents within the frame. You could do the same with giant numbers to help guide guests to their seats. Sarah Murray Photography
Boutonnieres made with succulents are simple yet elegant and can be combined with berries or other whispy partners to make the perfect look. Heather Hawkins Photography w w w. re c e pt i o n t o f o l l o w.com | 29

Wedding Trends: The Ins and Outs by Brianne Markin, Beaver Creek Reserve
W
hen it comes to planning your wedding, you have probably been collecting ideas and “pins” for some time. As fashions change, so can trends in weddings. The good news is that if you make your wedding personal to you, then you will be on trend. So what’s in right now? Mason Jars You can make a salad in them, store all the dry ingredients to make cookies, or use them for a million different decorating ideas. They are affordable and come in a variety of sizes and colors. It is no wonder these versatile jars are so popular with brides. However, if you have been to a wedding, wedding shower, baby shower or other event in the past three years, you have probably seen them used at least once. Verdict: Still In. Want a different look? Try chalk paint for a more rustic shabby chic look. For something more formal on a budget, use several jars in varying heights, fill with water and add a floating bloom and floating candles. Tree Slices or Cookies Chances are you have something with wood slices (we call them tree cookies) on your “wedding ideas” board. You can cut your own or purchase them online. Just be sure to choose a species native to this area, and check for bugs that could hitchhike on your shipment. When cutting your own, you want aged wood. If the wood is too fresh they can split, warp, or drip sap, so if all you have is fresh wood, let it age before your big day. These tree cookies are a great, simple centerpiece for an outdoor wedding. They have been around for a while, but are still very in. Save money by sanding and staining them yourself. Looking for a new twist? Use Modge Podge to top the cookies with fabric, lace or burlap. Paint a table number or monogram on them. Use a photo transfer technique to apply a photo of you and your fiancé and stand them up for guests to see. Different Dresses or Colors for the Maids If you have more than one bridesmaid, you know it can be hard to find one dress that will fit and look good on a variety of body types, let alone what makes them feel comfortable and confident. Similarly, finding a color everyone likes can also be challenging. First and foremost, give up on the idea that they “could totally wear this again.” It so rarely happens—don’t let that guide your choice. But there is something to be said about letting the girls pick from a selection of styles in the 42 | w ww.r ec eption tofo llo w.co m
same color, or different colors of the same dress. Verdict: Confidence is always beautiful and always in. If you are concerned about finding the one dress to work for everyone then let them choose. Or find a shop that will allow you to customize skirt and sleeve type or length. D -I - Why Did I Do This to Myself? There is a push for everyone to make everything these days. If that is your thing then go for it. But don’t add extra stress to the planning process by trying to learn new hobby just to save money. First, any good DIY’er will tell you that it rarely saves money. Likely you have a friend or family member who would love to sew table runners or make jam for your wedding favors. If not, there is a whole world of people who craft for a living. Whether you head to a shop featuring locally made goods, an artists market, or good old Etsy, chances are you can find what you are looking for. Be realistic with your time and your budget. Make what you are already able to make, outsource the rest. Something Borrowed You have most likely seen pictures of daughters in their mother’s prom or wedding dresses. This is a big new trend. Not only do you have your something borrowed, you are saving the money by not purchasing a dress. This trend does have its challenges, however, particularly if your mom was married in the 80’s or 90’s. If the dress needs major alterations, make sure you, your mom, and any siblings who may also have wanted to wear the dress, are all on the same page. Alterations and cleaning aren’t exactly cheap either, so find a good seamstress. This is not a great time for that whole DIY thing! Theme Weddings If BOTH you are your fiancé are really in to something, enough to incorporate it into your wedding, go for it. Theme weddings are not a trend per se, but with the increasing use of social media we are seeing more of them. One thing to note, there will always be friends and family that won’t understand, but in the end it is YOUR day. I have been to, or know people who have had Lord of the Rings, Casino Night, Nascar, and Roaring 20’s themed weddings. In each case, the weddings fit the couple perfectly, and that is always in! Bride Side, Groom Side This is one of those really long-standing traditions that supposedly
Area Wedding Fairs has something to do with which side a man’s sword was on. The bride stands on the left and the groom on the right and the families of each would sit on the respective aisles. This tradition is not completely out, but the new trend is to have open seating for guests. Maybe the groom has a huge family and the bride a small family. Maybe there are friends of the couple who don’t want to pick a side. Maybe there are two brides or two grooms? No matter the reason, open seating is a great new trend. What better reflects the coming together of two people that all their friends and family sitting together? Just make sure that your ushers let guests know or put out signs. It is always a good idea to reserve the first few rows on either side for close family and for anyone speaking or participating in the wedding. Speaking of seating, try open seating at your reception as well. You’ll save time and lots of agonizing over a seating chart. This works well with familystyle seating vs. round tables. Let Them Eat Cake, or Donuts, or Ice Cream… The wedding cake. Oh that iconic dessert. But what if that just isn’t your thing? First, they can be expensive, and the cake cutting fee on top of that? The trend lately has been to add a more meaningful dessert to your special day. This is a great trend to continue. A winter wedding I attended recently had individual Bundt cakes from a bakery that the couple loved and a hot chocolate bar! First, make sure that you can get that favorite dessert in a larger quantity and that your venue can serve it. Keep the season in mind as well. Not everyone wants ice cream in winter, and a molten lava cake might be too heavy for summer. When in doubt, give your guests options. My friend was lucky enough to have lots of great bakers in her family. So as you plan your special day try not get too focused on the trends or obsess about the details of a perfect wedding. Spoiler alert, there will be small hiccups. But truth be told, those are the things that you will remember and laugh about for years to come. In the end, the perfectly “on trend” wedding is that one that, when it’s all said and done, has you marrying your perfect partner.

10 Tips for Booking a Block of Rooms by Stephanie Butler, Leanne Cynor, and Lisa Goodwin, Hampton Inn Chippewa Falls
W
ith so many wedding details to take care of, one you want to be sure not to overlook is booking a block of rooms at a hotel. Stephanie Butler, Leanne Cynor, and Lisa Goodwin from the Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Hampton Inn hospitality team offer their room-booking tips.
1. Review the benefits of blocking rooms. Encouraging several, if not all, out of town guests to stay at the same hotel has several benefits. A discounted room rate is a big one, but there are other benefits too. “Even more special is the opportunity to extend the together time for friends and family who may not often have the chance to be together,” Stephanie Butler notes. “Having breakfast with all the cousins at our family table is something our groups enjoy.” With this in mind, book rooms that are close to each other within the hotel, allowing people to visit more with each other. 2. Tour each hotel you are considering. Be sure you understand what is included in each facility’s wedding room package. Is there a shuttle? If so, verify the cost and the schedule. Is this hotel within a good price range for your guests? Is there a pool? Is complimentary breakfast or a restaurant available? 3. Choose a hotel that provides a website just for your wedding. Hampton Inn offers this service, which allows you to create and personalize a group website for your wedding. Guests may book online 24/7, using the rate specific to your event. This website is great for sharing details about the wedding with guests, and you can upload your own photographs too. 4. Estimate how many rooms to book. First, include anyone in your wedding party that does not live locally. Second, add 10 percent of everyone else you invited. 5. Consider what types of rooms to book. Look through your guest list. If more guests are families, double queen rooms are preferable. 46 | w ww.r ec eption tofo llo w.co m
Remember to add a few handicap-accessible rooms for elderly guests or others who may need them who are traveling to the wedding. It’s nice to include a suite for the bride’s and the groom’s parents. 6. Book ahead. Generally it is a good idea to book the rooms eight to eighteen months ahead of the wedding. “The most popular hotels book up the earliest, so look for your hotel as soon as you book your venue,” says Butler. 7. Motivate your guests to book. “We encourage couples to have guests reserve rooms as early as possible so that, if more rooms are needed, the chances of getting additional inventory are more favorable,” the team recommends. Post booking information on your customized wedding website. Include booking details, or a link to the website, on your “save the date” cards. Make guests aware of the limited number of rooms blocked for the event and what the cut-off date is to reserve one of the rooms. Remind them that booking early ensures they will get the type of room they prefer at the special rate. Enlist them to book early to help you have a better idea of how many people will be attending the wedding, to help your planning process. 8. Reserve other needed facilities at the hotel. Hampton Inn Chippewa Falls has a roughly 600-square-foot room ideal for a bridal shower, a gathering area for the immediate family, or a gift-opening Sunday morning. This room is available on a first-come, first-booked basis. Rental fees for the room may be waived depending on how many rooms in your block end up reserved. 9. Understand check-in and check-out times. Then let your guests know, along with any related policies. 10. Find out what payment methods are accepted. Then make sure your guests are aware of this, as many hotels no longer accept cash and debit cards are not very hotel-friendly.

Heyde Center for the Arts: A Vintage Wedding Venue
Christy Janeczko Photography / www.christyjphotography.com
T
he Heyde Center for the Arts has been referred to as THE place for vintage weddings, with wooden floors and trim, classic architecture styles and lines, a large ballroom, chandelier lighting, and elegant design touches. Though it is an historic building, there is air conditioning for summer months and, of course, heating for winter and fall.
of changing over the theater-style set up to the banquet set up for you while you relax with family and friends. Your package includes round or rectangular tables, chairs, adjustable chandelier lighting, and all room set up and clean up. Dressing rooms are available for the wedding party, and a sound system with a technician is provided.
The Chippewa Valley Cultural Association, Inc. (CVCA) was formed in April of 1976; however, it took a long time to complete the restoration of the building. The Heyde Center for the Arts is the current name of the historic building that was saved and restored to its present glory. During the long and arduous process of fundraising, and the renovation and restoration of the building, the association organized performances in many “borrowed spaces” around the city to raise money and community awareness. Licensed electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and other skilled and unskilled laborers have provided hundreds of thousands of hours of volunteer labor. The building was reopened as an arts center in 2000.
You may work with your choice of caterers. Several caterers have provided unique and delicious meals with great service at the venue. The center has a list of caterers they’ve worked with who have received great reviews, but they are always willing to work with new, fully licensed caterers. There is a separate room just right for a buffet line and a prep room for caterers.
When you hold your wedding and/or reception here, it not only will be a great venue for your big day, it will support the Heyde Center for the Arts’ ability to provide high quality, affordable arts and cultural opportunities to the Chippewa Valley community. Because of all the great arts events in the schedule, you should plan to book the venue for your wedding at least eighteen months in advance. The center hosts an average of thirteen weddings each year. The center features a large auditorium with the advantage of flexible seating. It can seat approximately 240 people set up banquet style and 400 people set up theater style. If you wish to hold both your ceremony and your reception at the Heyde Center for the Arts, they will take care
The center has a liquor license and can provide all alcoholic beverages services. Or, if you prefer not to serve alcohol, there is no required minimum alcoholic beverage purchase. They also provide a wide range of non-alcoholic beverages. Call the center today to learn more about this beautiful vintage venue for your wedding. w w w. re c e pt i o n t o f o l l o w.com | 51
Flawless Skin for Your Wedding Day T
he big day is soon approaching. You’ve got the dress, and the photographer booked, but are you ready for your close up? Picture perfect skin is a must for your wedding day! It’s the best way for you to feel confident all day long and love your wedding photos for years to come. Denovo Medspa gives you the skinny on your skin for the big day below: When should I start preparing my skin for my wedding day? The sooner the better! Depending on your skin concerns, some procedures may require several treatments or a bit of down time in order to achieve the perfect wedding day glow. What steps should I take to prepare my skin for my wedding day? The very first step you should take is to receive a professional skincare analysis. During this time, our aesthetician or doctor determines the type of skin in each distinct area of your face. The in-depth analysis includes a discussion of your concerns and goals, which allows our skincare professionals to work with you to tailor a plan exclusively for your skin. Each and every treatment is customized based on your skin concerns and needs. What sort of treatment options should I consider? There are a number of effective skincare treatments to help you achieve beautiful wedding skin, ranging from a minimalistic approach to more aggressive options. Exfoliation is an easy way to get a quick turnaround on a visibly brighter, smoother complexion. Exfoliation facial treatments, such as microdermabrasion, can be performed in less than an hour’s time and deliver beautiful results without any downtime. Dermaplaning is a controlled exfoliation treatment like microderm, but a small tool is used to remove the outer layers of dead skin (including fine, vellus hair). This technique is great for your close-up portraits. Chemical peels can sound scary, but are simply an effective way to purge the dead skin cells from the inside out. This treatment does require slightly more downtime, but the results are worth it!
52 | w ww.r ec eption tofo llo w.co m
Microneedling is a more aggressive exfoliation treatment that also requires a few extra days of downtime. This is best for those who want to
really revitalize their skin. The process of microneedling involves using a special device that creates tiny punctures in the skin, which results in stimulation of collagen and allows healthy new cells to form. Those who are concerned about old acne scars or fine lines and wrinkles would be great candidates for this treatment. Got it. So I need to exfoliate... but how do I get a more even complexion and tone? Enter photorejuvenation. If brown or red spots are your concern, and you would love to have a more even skin tone on your wedding day, consider this treatment to be the icing on your cake. Photorejuvenation is an effective way to target those pesky brown spots, age spots, or sun damaged areas that appear on our skin over time. By undergoing a laser treatment that targets pigmentation in the skin, your complexion will look more even-toned with an improved appearance in texture and pore size. This treatment is popular with our brides, motherof-the-brides, and even grooms. Keep in mind a few days of downtime for this one as well—maybe a good time to work on that seating chart? What about unwanted body hair? Feel free to bare it all with laser hair removal. You’ll be hassle-free and carefree for your wedding day and ready to enjoy your honeymoon to the fullest. Laser hair removal is an effective way to significantly reduce hair growth in areas of concern. Imagine the convenience of not having to shave! You’ll be thankful you did it well after your wedding day. Are there any anti-aging options I should consider? RBF isn’t cute. It’s certainly not cute when captured forever on camera. Injections such as Botox® or Dysport® are lovely options to give you a refreshed look in a non-invasive way. By relaxing the muscles of the forehead, or eye area (crows feet anyone?), Botox® and Dysport® can help to soften and smooth out the lines that you find unflattering. We customize this treatment based on your concerns and anatomy. Dermal filler enhancement adds volume to areas of concern such as cheeks, lips and temples. Fillers help to enhance specific facial features that you are hoping to highlight. Want a fuller pout? A tiny bit of filler can go a long way. The results are subtle and long lasting. Are there any at-home remedies and tips on how to keep my skin looking great before the day approaches? It is so important to care for your skin continuously. Maintaining your skincare plan through at-home skincare products will help your in-office treatments last longer and give you optimal results. Our aestheticians will work with you to create a plan, and develop a routine for homecare that is easy to follow and will help your skin stay healthy between visits. Some of the at-home products they may suggest for your skin include: a good cleanser, a gentle exfoliant, appropriate moisturizer and various targeted treatment products such as an eye cream, a lightening agent, or an anti-aging serum. Denovo Medspa’s goal is to help you achieve the wedding glow of your dreams. If you would like to discuss skincare options in further detail, give them a call at 715.835.2285 and they will be happy to assist you. Cheers to a beautiful wedding day!

The Venue: A premier conference venue in Northwestern Wisconsin! The 5900 square foot facility can accommodate groups from 20 to 400 people. The character of the original mill lends itself well to the current industrial design trend. A touch of the rustic with an industrial-modern, elegant flair (and all of the moden conveniences) combine to create an atmosphere that will wow any guest. From the one-hundredyear-old Gothic arch Quonset to the modern-industrial Bin room to the chic and luxurious bride room, no design opportunity was left untouched.
Standout Features:
Bridal Suite:
Elegance is everywhere at The Mill! The distinctive and fully equipped bar—situated in the Bin Room under the one remaining, massive steel structures that give the space character and presence—features quartz counters and original industrial bar stools. The grand ballroom is The Quonset. This space can seat 295 guests and the one-hundred-year-old Gothic arches make for great party acoustics! Other features include a groom's lounge, elegantly appointed restroom facilities, a 14'X20' deck and designated smoking areas
The elegant bridal suite has ample room so that you and your bridal party are pampered as you prepare for your wedding. We didn’t forget the other part of the wedding party as we created a comfortable groom's lounge to help occupy the guys as they wait for the ladies!
The two main spaces, the Bin Room and the Quonset can be separated by closing the commercial doors between them. This gives your guests a space to break away from the party if the need to do so, or we can open them up and keep the party flowing through both spaces. Either way, the state-of-the-art surround sound system will keep your guests entertained at the appropriate volume all-night long.
Extras: We want to make things as hasslefree as we can. Included in the rental fee are all of the tables and chairs, risers, technology package, and shuttle service! Source: venuereport.com

Hair and Makeup: Going Professional I
t’s your big day and you want to look perfect. But you also don’t want to over-do it because you still want to look like yourself. You find yourself debating between a trained hair and makeup artist or sticking with the DIY approach. To save time and stress that you definitely don’t need on your day, leave it to the professionals. Locks and Lashes by Lacy is a full-service hair and makeup salon for all your wedding day needs. “We offer a variety of services including hair, nails, waxing, makeup, eyelash extensions, and skin care,” states Lacy Schaff, owner and artist. “Our business provides affordable prices, flexible schedules, easy to work with professionals, and a very welcoming environment.” Schaff recommends scheduling a trial run for wedding day hair and makeup. The artists are more than happy to try out several “looks,” but it is also helpful if the bride comes to the appointment a little prepared. In terms of makeup applications, you can choose airbrush or traditional. Airbrushing utilizes a machine to build up layers of makeup and achieve the perfect coverage. Schaff says airbrushing “evens out skin tones, looks great on camera, is waterproof, and lasts up to 12 hours.” A traditional application uses brushes or sponges to apply makeup and works well on women with challenging skin, or those over 50 years old. Schaff suggests bringing photographs of hair and makeup that you like, potential accessories (veil or hair pieces), and any favorite makeup products you can’t live without. This will help your artist craft the perfect image for you. On the big day, Locks and Lashes by Lacy wants you to be as stress-free as possible. Appointments are booked for 1 hour and 15 minutes and can be hosted at their salon in Menomonie, or an off-site location. For a smudge-free look, Schaff provides these tips: “Please wash your hair the night before your trial and big day. Come to your appointment with dry and clean hair. For makeup, have freshly cleansed and moisturized skin. Wear a top that buttons up or is easy to take off after your hair and makeup are done.” 58 | w ww.r ec eption tofo llo w.co m

Want a Smokin’ Reception Meal? Try Chuckwagon BBQ! Chuck Harmston has been smoking meats for many years for friends and family. It was his long time dream to start a catering business, but had one major roadblock: “My wife Clare and I have eleven children and really couldn’t start a business during that time. But as they grew up and started their lives and careers, we were able to give it a try.” Two years ago, Chuckwagon BBQ opened for business. Chuckwagon BBQ, in Menomonie, WI, is popular with barn weddings as one of the top five wedding trends, noting, “Homespun barn weddings, filled with branches, lanterns, and natureinspired décor, are more popular than ever.” Chuck and Clare have found that a food choice that pairs well with barn weddings is barbeque. “I think the trend with barn weddings is the country setting and the way the owners of the barn have transformed them into beautiful buildings without losing the country feeling when you’re in them,” Chuck says. Chuck and Clare serve up hickory smoked meats and homemade sides, including BBQ chicken, pulled pork, mac and cheese, coleslaw, cashew chicken salad, and cheesy potatoes (just to name a few). They have a mobile kitchen for barn weddings or other venues without a kitchen, and can serve more than 370 in either an indoor or outdoor setting. Couples can modify the menu slightly, but the Harmstons prefer to stick with what they do best. For one wedding they catered, a couple wanted individual milk cartons like they used to have in school, so Chuck found some—both regular milk and chocolate milk. Chuck notes, “We do our best to accommodate, but we really specialize in smoked BBQ meats and homemade sides at an affordable price. Couples can choose to have a complete self-serve buffet-style meal for between $10 to $14 per plate, depending on food choices. That includes buffet setup, plates, plasticware, napkins, BBQ sauces, and buffet cleanup. Chuck sums up, “Our company in a nut shell is a self-serve buffet style with great food and service at affordable prices. For being a company that isn’t even two years old, and as busy as we are, I think there is a great need for our style of catering. We operate out of a licensed commercial kitchen in Menomonie and have a real nice mobile kitchen that we take out on site.” For more information, call 715-308-7241, visit www.facebook.com/chuckwagonwi, or stop in 3375 Kothlow Ave., #20 in Menomonie, Wisconsin.
