Bishop’s Epistle

September 11, 2016

YOUR STAGNATION HINDERS MEMBERSHIP GROWTH, WHY? (I John 4:13-21NKJV) Sons and Daughters, Considering my “Love Epistle Subject” to you, would the following prayer be in your heart? “Almighty God, guide me, and help me, so that I will not be one of Your saints whose lack of fervent involvement in Your work through my church hinders the growth of fresh new membership in our parish church” Amen. The Lord’s words through the apostle John captured my mind and He directed me to share with you who truly desire to be righteous and well pleasing to Him. “He who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him” (I John 4:16). Will you honestly own up today and say to the Lord, “because of my lack of devoted service to my church, the church is not growing as it should?” Forgive me, Lord, and renew my mind and heart so that I may be loyal and committed to You.” The sum and substance of this stirring message was “abide and abound.” The word abide means to dwell, inhabit, live, lodge, reside or rest. It implies continuance, faithfulness and remaining constantly without limit. We are to abide in God and dwell securely in His sovereignty and love. To abide is to place our total trust in who God is and all that He has done for us. One night before Jesus was crucified, His valediction was, “Abide in Me and I in you” (John 15:4). Abiding in Christ for the saints is to become recipients of His death and resurrection. He died to forgive our sins and rose to defeat the power of sin and death for us. Yes, to abide is to abound. We become recipients of plentiful blessings through His constant interventions. We team with triumph. To abound is to be fully supplied with all that we need to live a daring, adventuresome, exciting and truly satisfying life. This passage in First John 4:13-17 builds a crescendo of praise for all the abundance we have been given as a result of abiding. One promise is heaped on another. We are thrilled by all that is ours in the family of God. Now repent and let’s get on with His work of bringing in the sheep knowing that we teach and preach and practice a Bible centered gospel. Amen Until He comes, I Am Serving Christ Joyfully, Bishop Dr. Wm. La Rue Dillard Parish under-shepherd
