'Where it's happ'nin'

r. Neal Fisher, president of Garrett-Evangelical Seminary, tells of a summer Sunday in Vermont when he and his wife, Ila, went to worship in a small white-steepled church. A tall, lanky man at the door, observing that they were visitors, nodded and said, 'Mornin'. This is where it's happ'nin'.' As they worshiped, Dr. Fisher came to believe the man was right. The pews were almost filled. The hymns were sung with spirit. The preacher, an older man, spoke straight from his heart, delivering an inspiring message. It was a moving, worshipful experience; something was happening. Talking with the pastor after the service, they learned that he had operated a sawmill for years and lived a rather reckless, loose life until one Sunday when Christ changed his life in the little church where he was now serving. Two years after his conversion, he attended a meeting where the church leaders were discussing the possibility of closing the doors of the church because of financial difficulties. The people decided not to let the church die, but they wondered how they could pay a minister. After a while, the humble sawmill owner said that he would serve as volunteer pastor, if no one else wanted to. That is how he became the preacher and how God used him and the church members to create a place 'where it's happ'nin.''

Discover Jesus, Read the Bible!

THE SAINTS’ FINAL DESTINATION MAY INCLUDE HOLDING PATTERNS (Deuteronomy 32:11, 12) People of Faith,

T

he Bible says, “An eagle stirs up its nest, hovers over its young, spreading out its wing, taking them up, carrying them on its wings, taking them up.”

God is showing how He protects Israel as described in the illustration of an eagle. He will also protect saints in our struggles and holding patterns of life. Israel means struggle. What is your final destination? If your final destination is not exciting, you welcome the hiatus of a holding pattern in your life’s journey. Have you ever been on an airplane and the pilot came over the intercom saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, we are in a holding pattern because of fog (or some other reason) and we will be delayed for about 30 to 40 minutes.” Our Christian journey is often like that. Tell me, were you anxious not knowing when and what lies ahead? Waiting in holding patterns also impede saints’ development in the Christian life. One person asked, “Why do I often battle the same old problems? If I’m a Christian, why do I still struggle?” The struggles of life as a Christian are the holding patterns, whether they are caused by us, others or lives around us. We all cry out, “Dear God—what is the meaning of this?” We dare not blame God for our struggles, but also we dare not suggest that He will not use them. My years of walking with the Lord have taught me that He alone can get us out of the holding patterns of life. He uses them to help us grow. In each of our holding patterns of life, we discover a deeper experience of His love and providence. The Lord loves us as we are, but He never leaves us there. Trust the Lord in every situation in your life. Amen. Until He Comes, I Am Serving Christ Joyfully, Bishop Dr. Wm. LaRue Dillard Parish Under-Shepherd

When do we pray? How do we pray? Why do we pray? What is prayer?

I

was taught early in life to get on my knees, put my hands together and pray to God saying, “Thank you for all You have done for me.” Then to ask Him for what I desire; and if I was good, He would grant my request. Now I know that is not all necessarily true. I understand now that I could never be good enough on my own, but because He loves me so much and lives in me, He makes me good.

The other thing I have learned in more recent years is “prayer” is simply talking to God. It does not have to be a request of any kind, but just letting Him know what is going on in my life, how I feel in my heart about things that happened during the day. Since He already knows, it could even make Him smile to know I just needed to have a little talk with Jesus, and He will comf ort and console me like no other. (Since I live alone, I do that often). Jesus teaches us how to pray; so if you are at a loss of words … Follow this example:

Matthew 6:9-13 New King James Version (NKJV) 9 In

this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

10 Your 11

kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And

forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And

do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen!

As for the questions, you will have to come up with your own answers.

ouths were served at this year’s Annual ‘We Believe-In-You’ Back-to-School Drive on Sunday, July 25, 2015. WOW! Everyone had a great time! The event started on the grassy lawn with prayer for all children receiving school supplies, followed by fun and fellowship. Children from nursery age to college age received a backpacks filled with pens, pencils, markers, crayons, flash drives, folders, etc. Afterwards, children and parents cooled down from the heat with ‘big-stick’ Popsicle and bottle water provided by our very own Seconds’ Gazette Staff. A special thanks to ALL SBC members who donated and volunteered to support this outreach. Our collective efforts allowed us to give children a great start to the 2015-2016 school year. Parents, grandparents, guardians, teachers and administrators, stay encouraged in the Lord as you work with the students in your lives. “Train up a child in the way that he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). I recently watched the movie, “Left Behind,” starring Nicolas Cage, again with my sisters. While watching the movie, we had an emotional and lengthy discussion about the circumstances leading up to the people being left behind, and the lies people tell to do what they want to do, which are sometime life altering. In this version of Left Behind, Nicolas Cage is a pilot who lies to his wife and daughter about having to work when he was scheduled to be off. Due to him wanting to be with his mistress, he accepts the job and … You can imagine the rest or watch the movie. My sisters and I enjoyed the movie a second time and we are praying that none of our love-ones are “Left Behind” when God returns for the Saints. Please watch this powerful movie! The scripture does not say, "Money is the root of all evil."Money is the root of no evil, nor is it an evil of any kind. But, "the love of money is the root of all evil" (1 Timothy 6:10). Only the love of it is evil. To love it is to covet it (Exodus 20:17, the 10th Commandment).

DEHYDRATION

D

ehydration occurs when the amount of water leaving the body is greater than the amount being taken in. Common causes of dehydration include vigorous exercise, especially in hot weather, intense diarrhea, vomiting, fever or excessive sweating. Not drinking enough water during exercise or in hot weather, even if you're not exercising, may also cause dehydration.

Whether the body temperature is increased due to exercising, in a hot environment, or due to a fever, the body uses water in the form of sweat to cool itself. Preteens and teens who participate in sports may be especially susceptible to dehydration because of their body weight and because they may not be experienced enough to know the warning signs of dehydration. You can usually reverse mild to moderate dehydration by drinking more fluids, but severe dehydration needs immediate medical treatment. Mild to moderate dehydration can likely cause a dry, sticky mouth, sleepiness or tiredness. Children who experience mild or moderate dehydration may be thirsty, have dry skin, frequent headaches, and less urine output. As fluid loss increases, symptoms of heat exhaustion can occur that include muscle cramps, weakness, light headedness, nausea and vomiting. If heat exhaustion progresses, this may lead to a heat stroke, which is a true medical emergency. The person may stop sweating, have a change in mental status that include confusion and a raise in body temperature (spike to 106 F or higher). Follow conventional wisdom – drink at least eight, eight ounce servings of water each day. The more time you spend outside and/or exercising, the more water you need to replenish lost fluids. The best way to beat dehydration is to drink water before you get thirsty. Also, by eating foods such as fruits and vegetables which have water content. Convenience is a must, so carry a bottle of water with you as you commute to work, run errands, or enjoy a day at the beach or park. If you're going to drink fruit juices while exercising, you may try diluting them; 50% fruit juice and 50% water first. Don't substitute caffeinated energy drinks, coffees, teas or sodas for water. Caffeine acts as a diuretic, causing you to loose water through increased urination. In heat waves, check on neighbors, especially the elderly, because the young and the elderly are most at risk due to poor temperature regulation systems. Adequate hydration will keep your summer activities safer and much more enjoyable. If you need to increase your fluid intake, keep an extra pitcher of water with fresh lemons, limes, or cucumbers in the refrigerator. Dehydration Facts: The body needs water to function. Dehydration occurs when water intake is less than water loss. Symptoms range from mild to life-threatening. Remember, the elderly and people with chronic illnesses are especially susceptible to dehydration.

Parents and Teachers I dreamed I stood in a studio And watched two sculptors there, The clay they used was a young child's mind; And they fashioned it with care. One was a teacher; the tools she used were books and music and art; One was a parent with a guiding hand, and a gentle loving heart. And when at last their work was done They were proud of what they had wrought. For the things they had worked into the child Could never be sold or bought. And each agreed she would have failed, if she had worked alone. For behind the parent stood the school, and behind the teacher stood the home. Author Unknown

Nothing Single --Eisele E. Cunningham

The Earth was made for lovers For a damsel, and hopeless man. For sighing, and gentle whispering And the unity made with meeting hands. All things do go on courting On earth, in sea and air. God has made nothing single But thee and his world for us, so fair! The bride, and then the husband. Two, who became one. Adam and Eve, were the original consorts… Same as the moon and the sun. Life does prove the fact of happiness, but it must obey the sadness of death. The dichotomy of promises that are and aren’t kept. While the high do seek the low And the strong seek the weak, Though none can find greatness For God is too grand for man’s eye too see. The bee does court the flower The flower remains excited to receive And in time they’ll make merry wedding Whose guests are the million leaves

10 Easy Steps to Achieving Your Financial Goals Continued: Step 6. It is recommended that a person have three to six months living expenses that can be easily accessed in the event of an emergency. Parents should not be Plan B. Many people select to have a savings account for emergency funds. Consider an Index Annuity, which is tax free if you have to withdraw (FFIUL). If you have a high bank balance, you may be able to open a Money Market account, or a Money Markey Mutual Fund that pays a higher rate of interest and still allows ready access to funds. Start saving by any means necessary. Sell items on EBay or Craigslist, sponsor a Garage sale, or recycle bottles. Keep reading for the Step 7 as Achieving Your Financial Goals continues.

SBC CHILDRENS CHURCH Hebrews 11:1 ACTS OF FAITH OLD TESTAMENT PLAYOFFS 2015 All games will be played on the Third Sunday of each month beginning June and ending in September. The games will be held during the Children’s Church Ministry Hours. “It’s our Time to Shine”! Have you been to Children’s Church lately? If not, then you have missed some great examples of Bible Scholarship.

“Have you heard the SBC Acts of Faith Playoffs 2015 is in full effect?” A Shout-Out to our Bishop as we follow him as he follows Christ. The Children’s Ministry has accepted this challenge and is holding serve!

reat efforts by the Children’s Church in the first round of the Acts of Faith Playoffs 2015. In Round One of the playoffs, the number one seed Jaylyn Harris who advanced to the Second Round with a win over runner up Lelani Mayes. Game two of the First Round presented a match-up of the alternates. Rikiyah Wilson and Kayvaughn Larry were absent due to family obligations but both contestants were represented respectfully by Nyla Daniels and Jason Jenkins. I must say Game Two of the First Rounds was quite a treat with Nyla Daniels and Jason battling to the bitter end. Nyla Daniels advanced with a 4 to 3 victory over runner-up Jason Jenkins. Game Three of the First Round presented a match-up between Jashawn Wade and Paije Jenkins. Both contestants prepared well and put on a valiant effort. Paije Jenkins advanced to the Second Round of the playoffs with a 4 to 3 win over runner-up Jaswawn Wade. Lastly, Game Four of the First Round presented a matchup between two Bible scholars John Harris III and Myreanna Wade; this match-up began fast with Myreanna Wade jumping out to a two questions to none lead against opponent John Harris. Game Four of the First Round was exciting with both contestants giving their all, with a 3 to 3 tie. The contestants were forced to use their Bibles to compete for the final question, which considered how Samson the great warrior in the Old Testament died? John Harris III advanced to the Second Round of the playoffs with a hard fought win over runner-up Myreanna Wade. So the Second Round is set for the SBC Acts of Faith Playoffs 2015. Game One of the Second Round will include Jaylyn Harris facing off with Paije Jenkins and Game Two of the Second Round will include John Harris III facing off with Kayvaugn Larry. Both games will take place 8/16/2015. All are invited to come out and support and root on the SBC Children’s Church as they show off their Bible Scholarship. It should be noted that all members of the SBC Children’s Church should be studying Hebrews 11, which provides Acts of Faith in the Old Testament; in addition, all of the questions considered for the SBC Acts of Faith Playoffs are taken from this Book of the Bible, which acts as a great source when studying Faith. All games will be played the third Sunday of each month beginning in June and ending in September. The games will be held during Children’s Church.
