The song was inspired by a pastor asking to watch a cardiac surgeon — one of his congregants — in action. When the doctor attempted to restart the patient’s heart after repairing it, the organ wouldn’t cooperate. The surgeon knelt to speak to his patient: “We have fixed your heart. We have repaired it. There is nothing wrong with your heart. If you can hear me, I need you to tell your heart to beat again.” And it did — because she did. “You can get back up again,” says Gokey, who faced loss when his first wife died. “You can move forward with your life, and you don’t have to walk with a limp.” God has fixed our hearts, Gokey says, but we need to recognize that — and begin to hope again. We fall down, but, we get back up again!

Hebrews 10:22 Faith is the greatest gift that you can give yourself and share with one another. Stop looking back focusing on your hurts and pains that you’ve been dealt. Have faith in God and keep looking forward towards where you want to go. Just because you have hit a dead end, does not mean it’s time to give up. Find a different route and keep pressing forward. When one door closes, God is about to open a bigger and better door for you. God is not looking at what you have done wrong, He’s smiling at the things that you have done right. People are judgmental not God, He has thefinal say so.

What Jesus Says about Women

esus saw women as having an intrinsic value equal to that of men. He saw them as human beings and not second class citizens, which was how they were treated at that time. He wasn’t concerned about their sex, age, or marital status but was more concerned about their relationship with God. He addressed women in public, regardless of the situation they were in, and spoke to them with thoughtfulness and caring. He didn’t approve of the sins of the women he met; instead, he confronted them, knowing that they had free will to repent and turn back to God. Jesus regarded women with the highest regard, showing them worth and dignity as human beings. He valued their friendship, prayers for him, financial support, and witness. May is the month to focus our health awareness on high blood pressure and stroke. High blood pressure, or hypertension, occurs when your blood pressure increases to unhealthy levels. Your blood pressure measurement takes into account how much blood is passing through your blood vessels and the amount of resistance the blood meets while the heart is pumping. The narrower your arteries are, the higher your blood pressure will be. African Americans in the U.S. have a higher prevalence of high blood pressure (HBP) than other racial and ethnic groups. It is also often more severe in blacks, and some medications are less effective in treating HBP in blacks. High blood pressure usually has no symptoms. That’s why it’s called the “silent killer.” The only way to know if your blood pressure is high is to have your healthcare provider check it regularly. Checking your blood pressure is quick and painless. You can have it done in a doctor’s office, hospital, clinic, nurse’s office, pharmacy, company clinic or health fair. You can also purchase a home blood pressure monitor so you can check it at home. Your doctor will tell you how often you should have it checked. Hypertension or HBP typically develops over the course of several years. Usually, you don’t notice any symptoms. But even without symptoms, high blood pressure can cause damage to your blood vessels and organs, especially the brain, heart, eyes, and kidneys. Treatment includes both prescription medication and healthy lifestyle changes. Many people go through a trial-and-error phase with blood pressure medications. You may need to try different medicines until you find one or a combination of medications that work for you. If high blood pressure isn’t treated, it could lead to health issues, including heart attack and stroke.

HEALTH THREATS FROM HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE INCLUDES: High blood pressure is the single most important risk factor for stroke because it’s the leading cause of stroke. HBP adds to your heart’s workload and damages your arteries and organs over time. Compared to people whose blood pressure is normal, people with HBP are more likely to have a stroke. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures and bleeds, or when there’s a blockage in the blood supply to the brain. The rupture or blockage prevents blood and oxygen from reaching the brain’s tissues. A stroke requires immediate medical attention. If you think you or someone else is having a stroke, have someone call 911 right away. Although COVID-19 has changed the world, it hasn’t changed the fact that hospitals are the safest place to be if there’s a heart attack, stroke or other medical emergency. Delaying the 911 call that gets you to the hospital can be dangerous — even deadly. If you or a loved one has stroke symptoms, which you can remember with the acronym FAST: Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech slurring or other difficulty, then it’s Time to call 911. This caught my attention because the Lord shows to others, when one has been in His presence. I can’t tell you how many times someone has asked me at social events (way back when) “what church do you go to? (It’s their way of saying I know the Lord too, or I see His light in you). Or people on the street will have a kind word or a smile just for you. I know if it happens to me, it happens to y’all too! What I’m saying is, spending time with the Lord will give you the glow that Moses had when he came down from the mountain top! That’s why I want to encourage you to spend (or continue to spend) as much time as possible with the Lord. Even if you have an 18 hour day, or retired with 18 hours free of duty, spending time with Jesus, reading and sharing His Word has perks beyond the pay check! As 1 John 4:4 says You are of God, little children, and

November 24, 1924 - February 20, 2021

Please join us in expressing Christian Sympathy to the Family of longtime church member Mother Mildred Octavia Clark. Mother Clark, 96, was granted her heavenly promotion into the presence of God in the early morning, February 20, 2021. Mother Clark, was born to Nathan and Rachel Rogers in Prentiss Mississippi. She was raised with her ten other siblings on the family farm, in a God-fearing home. She attended the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Prentiss, MS and at an early age was Spirit Baptized and Water Baptized. In 1945 she migrated to Monrovia, California and united with Second Baptist Church. She worked in the church general mission, choir, and vacation Bible school and Culinary Ministry. In 1948, she met and married Frank J. Clark, and to that union three children were born, Milton, Marilyn and Ellen. In 1980, she began her career at Santa Anita Race Track, retiring after 23 years of service at the age of 79. On July 23, 2012, Bishop Wm. LaRue Dillard appointed her to the distinguished “Council of Mothers”. Mother Octavia was survived by her three children, all of California and adopted daughter, Martha Jean Pace; four grand-children; five great-great grandchildren; her loving niece Troy Wells-Mitchell and daughter in faith, Willie “Pie” McDonald, and a host of relatives ad friends, far and near, that she loved dearly. We rejoice that Mother Octavia is now in the presence of God, who says, along with us, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

At Home With Christ

The home we long for and belong to is finally where Christ is. I believe that home is Christ’s kingdom, which exists both within us and among us as we wend our prodigal ways through the world in search of it.” While awaiting our heavenly home, we pray: Most High God, be our shelter from the storm and our dwelling place. May we always be at home with you in the eternal household you have prepared for those who love you. And may Christ always find a pleasant home in and among us. As you have welcomed us into your family, give us the compassion to welcome others into our own homes and lives, knowing that as we do it unto the least of these, we do it unto Jesus, in whose name we pray. stage to receive their diplomas, each graduate heard two messages from the principal: “Congratulations!” (in a loud voice) and “Keep moving” (in a whisper). Although the administrator was merely trying to facilitate the flow, she was actually offering sound advice to the young adults: Don’t stop or stagnate! Proceed from here and continue learning. This is the beginning, not the end, of a journey. Keep moving! Dear Jesus, You wanted to shelter Jerusalem like a mother hen would her chicks. Shelter me always under your loving wings. Amen.

Eternal Worth

cripture does not know of any human life which is so commonplace that it is not valuable enough to become eternal, and this is its high optimism. Nothing is too much for Scripture. Since every person is known by God by name, and since every person exists in time in the presence of the God who is judgment and salvation, every person is a person of eternity, and not just the noble spirits of history.
