The Slurry Walls of Life
A
s horrific as 9/11 was, it could’ve been even worse if not for a 30year-old engineering feat. Reaching some 70 feet underground, a 3-foot-thick concrete structure called a “slurry wall” surrounded the base of the World Trade Center complex. Designed to prevent the Hudson River from flooding the basement, this wall prevented New York’s subway system from flooding and countless additional people from dying on September 11, 2001. A slurry wall is constructed by pouring a thick, goopy mixture of powdered clay and water into a deep, narrow trench. The solution coats the sides, preventing water and soil from collapsing the trench. Pipes are then inserted through the slurry, and concrete is pumped into the trench, pushing the slurry up and out. At the WTC, the concrete formed such a strong wall that even two airplanes and the falling towers didn’t fracture it. Part of the slurry wall still stands at the 9/11 Memorial site, a symbol of resilience. Sometimes God uses life’s “slurry” to make us stronger than we ever thought possible. We might wish something yucky hadn’t happened — until we discover it was part of what sustained us, making us resilient and enabling us to rise out of destruction and death to awe-inspiring new life.

Bishop Wm. LaRue Dillard, Ph.D. Celebrating 40 Years as pastor of Second Baptist Church in Monrovia, Ca.
Saints of My Parish Flock,
S
econd Baptist Church exists to be shepherded by God’s appointed Under-shepherd. That Undershepherd is to lead the Spirit-baptized souls in Jesus Christ, by teaching and preaching theological education from an explicit evangelical, orthodox perspective.
My aim is to please Him who sent me by leading my flock in worship, focusing on the Triune God, and cultivating authentic belief in the Christian faith of the Evangelical Baptist Church. The Word of God must first transform the life by that same Word, the congregants of my parish, who follow the truth and are working toward shalom (peace) of Monrovia and its neighboring communities. Tell me, when will you commit to God and His church for miracles in this new age? Do you want to see miraculous happen in this church leading to growth? Then let it start with you! When will you make a positive move toward full trust in God and commit yourself to His church, knowing that He died for the church? In the book of Daniel it says, “If that is the case, our God in whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O’ king. But if not, let it be known to you, O’ king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have se t up” (Daniel 3:17, 18). Four words give us faith for the fires of life: “IF HE DOES NOT!” The faith of Shardrach, Meshach, and Abednego was firmly rooted in God’s sovereignty over all creation and His righteous care for His people in Babylon. The same God watches over His people today. How will you respond to His demonstrated love for you? Amen. Until He Comes, I am Serving Christ Joyfully,
Bishop Dr. Wm. LaRue Dillard Parish Under-shepherd

Footprints… from the desert Recovery is God’s Business!
I
know of countless people who have found a new way of life through the twelve step process. One thing I wasn’t sure of was how long I would be doing this “Twelve Step” recovery process?
One thing I know for sure is by doing some work on me, I understand how it works. At some point, the light bulb came on and I was no longer struggling with the disease of addiction, and bad behavior. (THANK YOU JESUS)!!! But what about all the other things we suffer from? Most of us won’t admit we have a problem with something, especially if we want to keep it! Usually, when the light of day has exposed our little secret, then we have to see it for what it really is; A PROBLEM! So how do we get rid of the problem? Making a list of pros and cons is a good start; and then, how is this problem affecting your life? Only you know the truth about the impact it’s having on your life. Now you need to share it with someone who loves you, and you can trust. The last part of the process is to give it to the Lord AND stop the behavior! (You can’t stop gambling if you still go to the casino). If indeed it is your desire to make a change in your life for the better …; The word says… “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” See you soon… Peggy LaBon Second’s Gazette

Tears unavailing, no merit had I, mercy had saved me or else I must die; sin had alarmed me, fearing God’s face-but now I’m a sinner saved by grace! - Gray

ello Second, today I am bringing you someone who is a phenomenal gospel artist . Her debut project came out in 2013 entitled "Grace" .
For those of you who have heard her music then you know who it is. And in the same right for those who don't know, her name is Ms. Tasha Cobbs. She hails from ATL . She is a singer, songwriter, producer and a praise and worship leader . One of her many hit songs is " Break Every Chain" , "Confidence" and that is just naming a few of her many hits.
A father was reading Bible stories to his young son. He read, "The man named Lot was warned to take his wife and flee out of the city, but his wife looked back and was turned to salt."
Alright, please keep Tasha in your prayers as she continues in her career in the gospel industry. For now I am out, Danielle!
His son asked, "What happened to the flea?"

his month DVD Review is on the Revelation Series, particularly, “The Thief in the Night.” The movie was shown two consecutive Sundays, during the Church School hour, in the Fannie M. Goodwin Educational Center. The movie is based on the biblical text of I Thessalonians 4:13-18, which deals with death and being caught up in the air to meet our Lord and Savior, Jesus, the Christ. This is a powerful movie, and a must see for anyone who does not understand the reality of death, falling asleep in Christ, and the resurrection. Read the “Thief in the Night” exposé, dated August 17, 2014, written by Bishop, Dr. Wm. LaRue Dillard for more insights and understanding of this movie. ~Precious~

Allen Allensworth (1842-1914), Former Slave Founded Town See African American Leaders by Kate Kelly
T
Escaped from slavery (1862); • Campaigned for two years to become a military chaplain; • Retired from the military as a lieutenant colonel, the highest ranking African-American soldier of that day; • Founded Allensworth, California in 1908 to offer hope and fairness for African-Americans
Buffalo Soldiers Coming to Monrovia Museum
he New Buffalo Soldiers are riding up to the Monrovia Historical Museum. Mark Still of the Museum said, “It’s been a long time since we had the Cavalry gallop up and down Lemon Avenue in this part of the West…” The New Buffalo Soldiers are helping Monrovia commemorate the contributions of one of the original Buffalo Soldiers of the early 20 th century: Lt. Colonel Allen Allensworth. Allensworth died in Monrovia exactly one hundred years ago on September 14, 1914. KGEM’s Ralph Walker said, “On Sept 14, 2014, Monrovia wants to commemorate the life and contributions of this American visionary.” The New Buffalo Soldiers are dedicated to educating the public about the contributions of Black men in the development of the Western frontier. They are also riding in the 2015 Rose Parade. The original Buffalo Soldiers – also known as the Negro Cavalry – was established as a unit of the United States Army in 1866. In that time of Jim Crow segregation, the Buffalo Soldiers had difficult assignments in the Indian Wars, in the Philippines, and in Mexico. In the early 20 th century, they were also national park rangers. In fact, Smokey the Bear’s campaign hat is the same design as the hat the Buffalo Soldiers wore. One of the Buffalo Soldiers’ leaders and the highest ranking African American in the military at that time was Lt. Colonel Allen Allensworth, chaplain for the 24th Infantry Regiment. “Allensworth wanted to build a Tuskegee Institute in California,” said Walker, “This former slave wanted to give Blacks educational, economic and political opportunity.” Mark Still continued, “Allensworth was the first pastor of our Second Baptist Church here in Monrovia. Second Baptist has served the community over 110 years.” The current bishop of Second Baptist, Dr. William LaRue Dillard, said, “Allensworth is a historic figure in this state, and his legacy will live on, even in Monrovia.” Aside from the New Buffalo Soldiers, the September 14 program at the Museum will feature Mayor Lutz and City Council members; Thomas Stratton, President of Friends of Allensworth; Steven Baker, Monrovia’s Historian; and former Duarte Mayor Lois Gaston representing Second Baptist Church. This special event will be from 1:30 to 3:30 pm and is free to the public. Just follow the Cavalry on Lemon Avenue. Reference: Second’s Gazette

Let's talk about the largest organ in your body Your SKIN! Skin is the human body’s largest organ (an organ is a group of tissues that work together to perform functions in your body; others include your brain, heart and lungs). Your skin performs a range of different functions which include physically protecting your bones, muscles, and internal organs; protecting your body from outside diseases, allowing you to feel and react to heat and cold, and using blood to regulate your body heat. Your skin can be much more than just a physical line of defense. It performs important functions that allow you to live a normal life. You might not notice it happening, but you can be sure your skin is doing its part to keep your body healthy. Read on and enjoy the following interesting facts about skin. The skin is the body’s largest organ. It is constantly shedding dead cells. The Average person sheds approximately 1 ½ lbs of dead skin cells each year. An average adult has more than 20 square feet of skin. A square inch of the human body has approximately 19,000,000 skin cells and up to 300 sweat glands. The skin’s thinnest area on the human body is on the eyelids. The skin contains a pigment called Melanin. The more melanin the darker the skin, less melanin makes it lighter. The skin is made up of three layers. The Epidermis is the outer layer, the Dermis is the middle layer, and Subcutaneous is the inner most layer. The skin protects the body against invasion of bacteria and other foreign objects. The skin helps to regulate body temperature. Goose bumps are little pimples that help keep a layer of warm air over your body. Contrary to what is believed, dust is not made up mostly of dead skin cells, there are vastly more sources of dust pollutants floating around the air. Blowing’ in the wind: Globally, dead skin accounts for about a billion tons of dust in the atmosphere. Your skin sheds 50,000 cells every minute. There are at least five types of receptors in the skin that respond to pain and to touch. In blind people, the brain’s visual cortex is rewired to respond to stimuli received through touch and hearing, so they literally “see” the world by touch and sound. So protect your skin as it works hard protecting you! Live Life Healthy, Second’s Gazette

For You! You can't see it but it's true, Exactly what He's done for you. Brought you from a lowly place, Placed His smile upon your face Removed all fear and evil doubt, Over the enemy we will shout: Hallelujah to the King! Disease, addiction, apathy, Gossip, not being in that clique, Soon as they ask you to pray for them, You turn around and forget, That God asked you to pray to Him too, Don't wonder why you slipped. Repent and try it again. From gutter to utter-most heights, Know that you're His child, While you grow in grace from reading His Word, Wise counsel your spirit finds... Open up your Bible, Continue to turn the page, God is married to the backslider, Turn from your sins today. Know the reason for the hope that fuels your faith in God, Share that faith, Be your testimony, And demonstrate His loveFor you!
What Does the Bible Say About Grandparents? Titus 2:1-5 ESV / 76 But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine. Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, selfcontrolled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled. Deuteronomy 4:9 ESV / 73 “Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children's children— Proverbs 13:22 ESV / 62 A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the sinner's wealth is laid up for the righteous. Psalm 103:17 ESV / 53 But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children's children, 2 Timothy 1:5 ESV / 49 I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. Psalm 90:12 ESV / 37 So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Psalm 37:25 ESV / 33 I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread. Exodus 34:6-7 ESV / 30 The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation.” Deuteronomy 5:16 ESV / 6 “‘Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land that the Lord your God is giving you .

It’s Study Time!!!

Dylan-LaRue Dillard
Second’s Gazette
t’s back to school time and
I’m geared up and ready to go. After spending time homeschooling and with my new commitment to the City of Pasadena, I really have to take the time to plan my schedule. I plan to stay involved with my commitments with TIP as well as church. This is my season to study. I must really believe and rely on Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. My focus is to let my light shine and not be afraid to share the gospel wherever I go. I was on the bus and a Jehovah Witness approached me. I
I was glad I was able to direct her to certain passages in the Bible, but it showed me that I must do as II Timothy 2:15 (KJV) says “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.” I have commitments every other Wednesday, but from now on...I’m going to make the Bible study classes on the Wednesdays when I’m available. I want to make sure I know what I know! How about you? Until next time, Dylan-LaRue
