onesty before God requires the most fundamental risk of faith we can take: the risk that God is good, that God does love us unconditionally. It is in taking this risk that we rediscover our dignity. To bring the truth of ourselves, just as we are, to God, just as God is, is the most dignified thing we can do in this life.

Discover Jesus, Read the Bible!
Patient Love with Sensitivity Will Avoid Rudeness Brothers and Sisters of My Flock, Grace to You!
The Bible gives us positive direction of love for one another. It tells us that: “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil”. (I Corinthians 13:4, 5)
H
ow do we know that we have received the Spirit Baptism of Love? How can we be sure? First of all, love is patient. If we have received the Holy Spirit, there will be the capacity for patient endurance with other Saints. Love is patient because God is patient. An essential quality of His nature is given to our character.
Modern translation of the word “Love is not arrogant or rude” suggest that this means “Love does not have inflated ideas of its own importance” and therefore, “has good manners.” Our attitude toward ourselves radically affects our attitude toward others. What is really important? What makes a Saint important? Who are God’s VIP’s? The greater danger is that we will strive to become important for the wrong purpose. We all love recognition, and the rewards of position and power. What goes wrong is that importance becomes a detriment instead of a gift. No Saint can determine himself important. This is for others to do. We are to do our work as well as we can and leave the results to God. Self-appointed importance is the root of arrogance. In Christ Jesus, God’s patience with mankind is exposed. God is not limited by mankind’s standards of time and emergency. Above time, God sees the eternal big picture. Love will always issue in patience with the Saint’s slowness to learn, respond, or grow. I believe that patience can only be real if we see things from God’s point of view. The love I speak comes from God and it liberates us from arrogance because it heals our need to be important. It gives us new energies to care infinitely for people and to work diligently. The outcome is that without seeking it, God uses us in His strategy of the kingdom. Self-important seekers need to tell God to “make them over in mind and heart to do His will completely.” Amen. Until He Comes, I Am Serving Christ Joyfully, Bishop Wm. LaRue Dillard Parish Under-Shepherd

his month let’s look at
Claudia Alexander, a beloved NASA project scientist
who
spearheaded NASA's side of the European Rosetta comet mission and the Galileo mission to Jupiter. Claudia Joan Alexander (May 30, 1959 – July 11, 2015) was an American research scientist specializing in geophysics and planetary science. She worked for the United States Geological Survey and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. She was the last project manager of NASA's Galileo mission to Jupiter and until the time of her death had served as project manager and scientist of NASA's role in the European-led Rosetta mission to study comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
Alexander was a well-loved and prolific planetary scientist, science communicator, and even science fiction writer and children's author. She has left her mark on the study of comet formation, Jupiter and its moons, magnetospheres, plate tectonics, space plasma, the solar wind and the planet Venus, and according to her NASA biography, she wrote 14 scientific papers. Alexander was a member of the American Geophysical Union—where she had served as chair of the diversity subcommittee and the Association for Women Geoscientists. In 1983 Alexander received a Bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley in geophysics, which she thought would be a good background for a planetary scientist. Alexander earned her Master's from the University of California, Los Angeles in geophysics and space physics in 1985. Her masters' thesis used Pioneer Venus Orbiter data to study solar cycle variations in extreme ultraviolet radiation of the Venus ionosphere and its interaction with the solar wind. She earned her Ph.D. in the physics of space plasma from the University of Michigan in 1993—where she was named "Woman of the Year." In 2003, Alexander was awarded the Emerald Honor for Women of Color in Research & Engineering by Career Communications Group, Inc.—publisher of Black Engineer & Information Technology Magazine—at the National Women of Color Research Sciences and Technology Conference.

chool is back in session and all is well with another summer coming to an end. It seems that children pick up so much information from their classmates outside the classroom that parents can not keep up with the changes.
I remember when my kids had lots of questions about the information they got from other children. How do we keep them safe from too much information coming too soon? This is almost impossible these days with the internet being a touch away. Hosea 14:9 says, “Who is wise? Let them realize these things. Who is discerning? Let them understand the ways of the Lord are right; the righteous walk in them, but the rebellious stumble in them.” There are always ways to help our people learn the things that they need to know, and the rest will with time. Parents, be vigilant about helping your child or children navigate through good information and bad information. The world is full of information that can cause chaos in the minds and hearts of our youths. I remember when I taught Sunday School to the pre-teens at SBC, I would give them time to talk about other subjects when we finished the lesson. Otherwise we could spend the entire class time talking about what happened in school the past week. Remembering Proverbs 6:22 which states, “Train up a child in the way that he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Until next time, with love,

to the 20th century, most American Christian women commonly followed Corinthians 1:11 and covered their heads in worship. For early African Americans, God’s house was not only a sanctuary of hope and salvation in a brutal world, but it was also one of the few places where they were allowed to hold important positions of leadership. Sunday was thus a day of worship and celebration. African American women traded in their drab aprons and knotted head wraps for brightly colored dresses and straw hats gaily decorated with fresh flowers, ribbons and feathers. These heavenreaching hats were designed to “catch God’s eye” in hopes He would hear their prayers. http://blackthen.com/the-african-american-crown-whychurch-ladies-wear-flamboyant-hats/

BACK-TO-SCHOOL NEWS! chool days, school days, dear old golden rule days...does this ring a bells? Maybe to some of us! But to the young ones going to school, they have probably never heard such an old tune.
It is time to return to school and some of the “good old” habits are still good for today. Here are some tips for getting a good start to your school year: GET ENOUGH SLEEP! Sleep gives your body a rest and allows it to prepare for the next day. It's like giving your body a mini-vacation. Sleep also gives your brain a chance to sort things out. The amount of sleep a person needs depends a lot on his or her age. Babies sleep a lot — about 14 to 15 hours a day! But many older people only need about 7 or 8 hours of sleep each night. Most children between the ages of 5 and 12 years old fall somewhere in between, need 10 to 11 hours of sleep. Skipping one night of sleep makes a person cranky and clumsy. Missing 2 nights of sleep, a person will have problems thinking and doing things; his or her brain and body can not do their normal tasks nearly as well without adequate sleep; it becomes impossible for the brain to give directions to the rest of the body without sleep — the brain needs to spend time in bed to catch its ZZZs! EAT A HEALTHY BREAKFAST! Any breakfast is better than no breakfast! But try not to have doughnuts or pastries all the time. These are high in calories, sugar, and fat. Just like with other meals, try to eat a variety of foods, including fruit, vegetables, grains (make at least half your grains whole grains), protein (meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dry beans, nuts, and seeds), and dairy products (low fat or fatfree milk, cheese, and yogurt). TRY YOUR BEST! Even if a certain teacher is not your favorite, you can still have a successful relationship, especially if you fulfill your basic responsibilities as a student. Attend class ready to learn. Be prepared for class with the right pencils, books, and completed assignments. Listen when the teacher is talking. Do your best, whether it’s a classroom assignment, homework, or a test. Use good work habits, like writing down your assignments and turning in your homework on time. Good work habits include the following three areas: Getting organized means getting where you need to be and gathering your supplies. Staying focused means sticking with the task. Take your time with school work. If you don't understand something, ask the teacher. Teachers are important resources to go to help because they can give you specific advice about an assignment you are having trouble with. Teachers can give you study tips and offer ideas about how to tackle homework. Helping you learn is their job, so be sure to ask for advice! KEEP A SENSE OF HUMOR! Laughter is the best medicine. Laughter is a powerful antidote to relieve stress, pain, and conflict. Nothing works faster or more dependably to bring your mind and body back into balance than a good laugh. Humor lightens your burdens, inspires hope, connects to others, and keeps one grounded, focused, and alert. Laughter is good for your health. HAVE A GREAT SCHOOL YEAR!!! “Seek His will in all you do and He will show you which path to (Proverbs 33:6 NLT).

aKeo Green , son of Marcus and Ferrari Green are proud to announce that our baby is 4 years old. In his 4 years he has made us proud and amazes us with his abilities, skills and intelligence. At birth he was coined, “Baby Hulk” and has not disappointed, everything he does is BIG! Being the size of 5 or 6 year old he is a natural at sports and loves a challenge, even if it wrestling his older brother, Khalil. But he is equally as smart in school. He consistently receives positive teacher reports. In four years he has learned to give compliments to ladies to keep them happy, learned how to swim, to protect his sister, McKenzie, that Jesus lives in his heart although he is not sure how He fits in there and has taken his first college course through a UC Riverside extension at University of Redlands, where he is learning to read. He inherited an old man’s way of dancing and loves his family. We are proud that God chose us to be MaKeo’s parents .

everal sociological factors are affecting grandparents’ role. Because families are spread out geographically, “long-distance grand parenting” is now common. On the other end of the spectrum, many grandparents are actually raising their grandchildren.
Despite modern-day challenges and changes, grandparents are more important than ever for providing kids with a sense of history and heritage. Whether through social media and Skype or special outings and storytelling, the older generation has a variety of avenues for connecting with grandkids. In the process, grandparents can share their Christian faith. “One generation your works to anGrandchildren are God’s way of compensating us for growing old.” will commend Mary H. When I say that I am a Christian When I say that 'I am a Christian', I am not shouting 'I am clean living, I'm whispering 'I was lost, but now I'm found and forgiven, I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide, When I say 'I am a Christian', I'm not trying to be strong, I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on, When I say 'I am a Christian', I'm not bragging of success, I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean up my mess, When I say 'I am a Christian', I'm not claiming to be perfect,
I love you, and thank God for all of you! I have a testimony to share; an AWAKENING for me, God helped me dodge a bullet.

hanks to everyone who prayed for me. It means a lot because life is short with many twists and turns, never knowing what lies around the bend. This is why I live my life in Technicolor, trying to be the best “ME” I can be and trying to help others do the same because this little light of mine, I am going to let it shine which brings me to my testimony. Friday, August 21, 2015, I experienced chest pains and shortness of breath which sent me to the ER. The pain was so bad that morphine did not work. The ER sent me home around 3 am only to call me back Saturday morning. It turned out a second Radiologist found what the first Radiologist missed. A miracle! They discovered a large blood clot in my lung. Thank God it traveled and lodged in my lung which gave me a warning that I listened to. The clot is still in my lung and has to be dissolved with medication. I was hospitalized for four days, but home now. If I had not gone to the ER, I could have died. If the clot had traveled to my heart, it would have been lights out. I am grateful for the warning and another chance to help myself and others. I have to give myself injections twice a day, and get my blood drawn daily. I feel like a pin cushion, bruised but not broken. My life has changed for the moment, but I am blessed with salvation, a husband, family and friends who truly love me. I am happy you are on this team. Listen to your body and act quickly if you get a warning. Better to be safe than.... Make every moment count! Enjoy life and make a difference! Si Se Puede!!! Yes You Can!!!

We look forward to each of “YOU” for a Bible Showdown on 9/20/2015!
SBC Children’s Church is looking forward to Acts of Faith Championship 2015, and feels accomplished in exposing the youths at SBC to the glory of God, teaching them that they can accomplish anything if they believe and have faith. Finally, it is safe to say that if our youths are questioned about their faith, they will have a huge arsenal developed to help them in combat and be a light to this dark and tasteless world. As our Bishop says, “As Christians, we want to be the headlights and not the taillights.”
So the SBC Children’s Church Acts of Faith Championship 2015 is set! The Number Three Seed, Kvaguan Leary, is facing off with Number Four Seed Paije Jenkins. The Championship will be hosted at SBC Children’s Church 9/20/2015, 12:30 pm. Parents and friends are invited to come and support their Bible Scholars. Have your cameras handy! There will be hot dogs and lemonade provided to everyone in attendance. So come and hangout with SBC Children’s Church; enjoy the competition and have fun in Christ.
Kvaguan gave the closest age of Noah (600) when he was called to build the Ark. These Scholars were cheered on by family and SBC members. A special thanks to the audience for making all the Scholars competing in the tournament feel like champions.
Two Scholars seesawed through questions until ending in a heartfelt tie breaker that challenged their understanding of Noah and his Faith. Diakona Ron Husband was the Honorary Judge for the Final Four and was called on to provide hints and clarity of the questions.
It is safe to say this matchup presented not only key stories in the Old Testament like David and Goliath, Abraham and sons, but some trivia on Jonathan and his Armor Bearer. Moreover, it presented an opportunity for children to learn some life skills, how to handle pressure from the Bible Scholarship competition; and how to handle rejection and perseverance in front of an esteemed audience with their peers.
Due to a pre-arranged event, Jaylyn Harris was not able to compete, but was represented by alternate Crista Moreland. Crista gave a valiant effort against Paije, but was unable to stop Paije’s scholarship. Paije advanced to the Championship round with a four to one victory. The second round of the Final Four presented a matchup between Kvaguan Leary and John Harris.
The stage is set for the Finals after a competitive Final Four match. There are only two scholars left. It is safe to say these scholars earned every point to get here. The Final Four presented the Number One Seed Jaylyn Harris facing off with the Number Four Seed Paije Jenkins, as well as the Number Two Seed John Harris facing off with the Number Three Seed Kvaugn Leary. These two matchups were a Bible Trivia treat.
