Bishop’s Epistle
April 30, 2017
Sons and Daughters, Grace to you! There is a message for us all in Matthew 11:25-30 from the Lord Jesus. When a “A SEASON SAINT UNITES WITH A WEAKER SAINT,” there can be spiritual benefits for both. However, we must accept the Lord Jesus’ invitation. He said: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learns from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:28,29). Are you aware that new yokes of slavery are a beguiling temptation all through our Christian life? The self-justifying tendency in us takes on different expressions. Each false effort to make ourselves more right with the Lord will be confronted and dealt with through a new reclaiming of His unearnable grace. Therefore, we need deep fellowship with Christian friends who can help us discern each new yoke of slavery and replace it with the yoke of Christ Jesus. In each instance Christ says, “Come to Me, all who labor…” When feelings of being unfree hit the saints, we must recapture these words of Jesus Christ. The idea behind this promise, I think, was a training yoke an which as older, stronger ox pulled in tandem with a younger, weaker ox. The trainee learned from the experienced beast who carried the responsibility for the weight and direction in ploughing the furrow.

Christ takes the heavy load and guides us along a straight path. But as I have taught over the years, we are brought back to the fact that we assume new yokes of slavery and try to carry them along. So, when we, the saints, get exhausted or depleted, the Savior is always waiting with a liberating offer.
