Kerala Latin Catholics to keep away from all political fronts Thiruvananthpuram: The Latin Catholic community in Kerala that has decisive voting power in some pocekts of the state will keep equal distance from all political fronts in the upcoming general elections, a Church leader has said. Archbishop Soosa Pakiam said this on Friday while inaugurating the massive rally and grand meet organized by the Kerala Region Latin Catholic Council (KRLCC). At the rally people shouted slogans against the growing neglect of the community by the state and Central governments. The rally refused to support the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Communists' Left Democratic Front (LDF). The archbishop based in state capital Trivandrum said the community's support to political parties would purely be on the basis of handling of issues and merit. "Political parties are trying to divide and rule the community. So we would keep them at a distance. Both the UDF and LDF fronts in the state consider communities as vote banks," he said. He said the community was ready to accept any candidate, irrespective of their caste, creed and religion, provided they protected their interest. He reminded the Catholics that most politicians who win with community mandate turn against the community later. "Politicians think that nothing will happen if they turn their back to the Latin community. That's why they refuse to allow preferences, which are due to the Latin community though they are most eligible for the same. All I have to say is that they shouldn't forget the path treaded to reach the position they now enjoy," he said. He also spoke at length about the problems faced by the community due to CRZ norms, absence of a separate fisheries ministry at the centre and inadequate assistance from the government. KPCC president V M Sudheeran who shared dais with the archbishop said the government has agreed to convene a meeting of ministers, officials and MLAs concerned to address issues faced by the coastal communities. He said the problems faced by the fishermen community were as important as that of massive evictions in the name of big ticket projects. A Shrine for Pope John Paul II in Mangalore

Mangalore-Bangalore: Reminiscing Pope John Paul's visit to Mangalore on February 6, 1986 and gearing up to celebrate his canonization on April 27, the priests, religious and lay faithful are all set to dedicate s huge shrine in his honour. The Shrine is being built at Bajpe, the very place the Pope addressed over 300,000 people. The Shrine is being built under the initiative of Bishop Aloysius Paul D'souza for over one crore with hopes that the Chief Minister will also pitch in a contribution. A life-size bronze statue of Pope John Paul is expected to be sent by the Apostolic Nuncio. It may be recalled that Bangalore Archdiocese, under the initiative of Archbishop Bernard Moras also erected a life size bronze statue of the Pope and dedicated the first Church after his name. Amazingly, the 'Church' built by a non-Catholic, was earlier used as a common place of worship for Christians until the Archdiocese purchased it, renovated and consecrated it to the honour of Pope John Paul. Devotees from this magnificent Church are making preparations to celebrate the Pope's canonization on the Archdiocesan level.

Opinion Fixing Barring a few exceptions, opinion polls have been representative of the expected results. Margin for error has always been generously factored while analyzing such surveys. Since it is only a limited exercise, one cannot expect cent per cent accuracy. Despite infirmities opinion polls carried weight as well as credibility. Unfortunately, when it comes to opinion fixing [akin to match fixing in cricket] the value of such polls falls down drastically. The recent disclosure of alleged mal-practices in such polls to project results to favour anyone who is willing to pay the price, has come as a big jolt. Surprisingly, the allegation covers almost a dozen such agencies – some of which are well known names. This sensational allegation has shocked the nation – more so the TV channels and anchors who have been relying heavily on such opinion polls for elaborate TV debates on television prime and super prime time. Based on the findings of such opinion polls, political parties [barring those shown as losers], renowned psephologists, political analysts, newspaper editors of repute, seasoned journalists etc spend hours debating the outcome of such polls. It gives an impression that all these experts have been taken for a ride by greedy pollsters. It is sad that manipulated results have been dished out. They have been able to fool all the people all the time till now. What is baffling is that until now nobody even doubted the credentials of those involved. Their findings were considered as products of their honest exercise. While some of the firms involved have cried foul [saying they have been selectively quoted] which is not surprising. Every body does just that. It was common among politicians to say that they have been quoted out of context but now this escape route is being increasingly used by others as well. What needs to be emphasized is that even the Election Commission has been forced to take a note of this development. Of course, the Congress has complained to the EC but the very

VIEWS on NEWS fact that the Commission has directed the Police to investigate the whole matter shows the seriousness of the issue. No matter what leaders say, such opinion polls tend to influence the fencesitters especially those who are not die hard supporters of any of the political parties. They are unsure of their choice. These opinion polls guide [or misguide] them to vote for the winning side. It is always nice to be seen with the winners. To that extent, it is a bad influence on voters and it is time such polls are banned. All surveys carried out by the pollsters [or fraudsters] have come under a cloud. Even the best among them will have to suffer. Sting operations can make or mar somebody’s career. The late Bangaru Laxman became the first big casualty. He never came into lime light again. That possibly is the only legacy he has left behind. With his case such operations have acquired importance and legitimacy too. *****

The Friendless Congress The grand old party of the country – Indian National Congress is losing friends in the run up to the general elections barely a couple of months away. Of course, the disintegration of the UPA started a long time back with TMC walking out, the DMK withdrawing its ministers, the SP and BSP slowly but surely distancing from the Congress except for crucial life support to save the government from possible collapse. Of late, the relations between the SP and the Congress are anything but cordial with both pouncing on each other. Even parties like the RJD are making the Congress dance to its tunes. With the party split in Andhra [Seemandhra] it is heading for difficult times. TRS may merge with Congress but whether it will be superficial only time will tell. The DMK having aligned with the BJP in the past is not averse to the idea of repeating the experience. Narendra Modi was supposed to be the stumbling block but with the DMK supremo

by Marshall Sequeira showering praise on him, the prospects of a tie-up cannot be ruled out. This arrangement may be less to spite the Congress but more to counter Madam Jayalalitha who is eyeing the Prime Ministerial post. If she succeeds, it could prove disastrous for the DMK. Hence they are prepared to go any length to thwart her chances. The Third Front comprising some eleven parties may not mean much except that this development has marred the chances of the Congress of getting some of them on board. Two significant parties the AIDMK and BJD have distanced themselves from this formation. The reason is simple. Leaders of both these parties see themselves as Prime Ministers-in-waiting. Unfortunately, there is only one such post but multiple takers. With egos riding high, the success of this Front is suspect. With just NC in tow, the UPA is a sinking ship. NC cannot align with BJP now [though they had done so in the past] since they have named Narendra Modi as their PM candidate. Besides, NC is running the government in the Valley and therefore does not want to be hounded by the opposition and the separatists for aligning with a communal party. It is more of a compulsion that it has stayed with the UPA. The NCP has always been a fence sitter. Their association with the Congress has been long but the relation between the two has never been cordial. Each party has been taking pot shots at the other every time an opportunity arises. It is a blow hot blow cold relationship. Sharad Pawar is a very shrewd politician. He may not hesitate to abandon the UPA ship if it cannot form the government. With too many aspirants in the Third Front for the top post, Pawar may see himself as a consensus candidate.

Pope Francis issues letter to families ahead of extraordinary synod A full English translation of the Pope’s letter: Dear families, With this letter, I wish, as it were, to come into your homes to speak about an event which will take place at the Vatican this coming October. It is the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, which is being convened to discuss the theme of “pastoral challenges to the family in the context of evangelisation”. Indeed, in our day the Church is called to proclaim the Gospel by confronting the new and urgent pastoral needs facing the family. This important meeting will involve all the People of God – bishops, priests, consecrated men and women, and lay faithful of the particular Churches of the entire world – all of whom are actively participating in preparations for the meeting through practical suggestions and the crucial support of prayer. Such support on your part, dear families, is especially significant and more necessary than ever. This Synodal Assembly is dedicated in a special way to you, to your vocation and mission in the Church and in society; to the challenges of marriage, of family life, of the education of children; and the role of the family in the life of the Church. I ask you, therefore, to pray intensely to the Holy Spirit, so that the Spirit may illumine the Synodal Fathers and guide them in their important task. As you know, this Extraordinary Synodal Assembly will be followed a year later by the Ordinary Assembly, which will also have the family as its theme. In that context, there will also be the World Meeting of Families due to take place in Philadelphia in September 2015. May we all, then, pray together so that through these events the Church will undertake a true journey of discernment and adopt the necessary pastoral means to help families face their present challenges with the light and strength that comes

from the Gospel. I am writing this letter to you on the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple. The evangelist Luke tells us that the Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph, in keeping with the Law of Moses, took the Baby Jesus to the temple to offer him to the Lord, and that an elderly man and woman, Simeon and Anna, moved by the Holy Spirit, went to meet them and acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah (cf. Lk 2:22-38). Simeon took him in his arms and thanked God that he had finally “seen” salvation. Anna, despite her advanced age, found new vigour and began to

speak to everyone about the Baby. It is a beautiful image: two young parents and two elderly people, brought together by Jesus. He is the one who brings together and unites generations! He is the inexhaustible font of that love which overcomes every occasion of self-absorption, solitude, and sadness. In your journey as a family, you share so many beautiful moments: meals, rest, housework, leisure, prayer, trips and pilgrimages, and times of mutual support… Nevertheless, if there is no love then there is no joy, and authentic love comes to us from Jesus. He offers us his word, which illuminates our path; he gives us the Bread of life which sustains us on our journey. Dear families, your prayer for the Synod of Bishops will be a precious treasure which enriches the Church. I thank you, and I ask you to pray also for me, so that I may serve the People of God in truth and in love. May the protection of the Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph always accompany all of you and help you to walk united in love and in caring for one another. I willingly invoke on every family the blessing of the Lord.

World Marriage Day Celebrated at Dombivli Church

“What God has joined, let no man divide” - the Family Cell of Infant Jesus Church, Dombivli/Thakurli celebrated World Marriage Day on Sunday 23rd February, 14. Fr. Allwyn D’Silva, Episcopal Vicar of Thane Deanery was the main celebrant. A meaningful liturgy was prepared by the members of the Family Cell of our parish. 90 couples took part in the entrance procession for the mass. At the Eucharist the couples renewed their marriage vows. Fr. Allwyn gave a meaningful sermon on the importance of marriage and the church’s teaching on marriage This was followed by a get together for all the couples and their children in parish hall where there was a wedding march, cutting of the anniversary cake by the senior most couple, mixers, games and spot prizes for the couples and their children. The program ended with sharing of a meal by the couples and their family. The members of the family cell thanked Fr. Paedophilia Aboard School Buses The rate at which sexual assault/ molestation is becoming part of school bus travel for our li'l tots is so alarming as to make one wonder as to the kind of generation that is likely to grow into adulthood light years from now. We need to find an urgent solution to this madness that predators like drivers and attendants of school buses have got into, blatantly mindless of the scar their actions are likely to leave on the tender minds of the children they so brazenly target. Perhaps we need to consider looking at the ‘school bus’ as a means of transporting not just students but also teachers, the presence of the latter serving as a deterrent, the regular attendant of course being constantly on the alert in addition to, of course, heightened close-circuit surveillance. Another alternative would be the BEST running “school specials” that transport school students and school teachers alike [all seated, no standees] within a certain radius of schools, modalities being worked out by the BEST Undertaking in consultation with schools of a given locality. This might be a bit complicated initially but could, in the long run, prove beneficial to all concerned, with only bonafide teachers and students with attested ID cards being allowed to travel on such specials. Maybe other school staff could also be permitted. Could Christian run institutions take the lead in putting forward a viable proposal to the authorities concerned? —Ladislaus L D’Souza

The Holy Bible clearly tells us in 1 Corinthians, Chapter 6, Verses 9 and 10: “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” God will not honour a sinful marriage between two homosexuals or lesbians. Leviticus, Chapter 18, Verse 22 also tells X-Spam-Subject: YES XSpam-Subject: YES us, “Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin.” Leviticus, Chapter 20, Verse 13 again says,. “If a man praX-Spam-Subject: YES X-Spam-Subject: YES ctices homosexuality having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of capital offense." The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and one must not misuse it for any wrong purpose. Remember, God destroyed the twin cities of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis, Chapter 19) because the men in those cities were filled with lust and were gays (homosexuals).

I was surprised to read Bernie Tellis' letter (SC Feb 14) in response to the article on Modi by Rev Cedric Prakash SJ. While questioning the writers criticism of Modi, she also states that she doesnt know who the writer is. Prakash is a Jesuit priest who runs a human rights organisation in Ahmedabad (Gujarat). He has often had to cross swords with Modi's BJP Governement for speaking up for whose rights have been trampled upon. Being in the heart of Gujarat, he is better placed to give us an "insider's view" of what is actually happening there. What he has stated about Modi is nothing new. Noted social activist Mallika Sarabhai has made similar observations in the past. Prakash has been the recipient of several international awards for his work for human rights, so he has impeccable credentials, which give greater credence to his views. Tellis is rather naive in asking why Modi is so popular, if Prakash's allegations are correct. Today popularity is manipulated by the media, which in turn is controlled by major industrial houses, who in turn prefer "business friendly" Modi to the socially inclusive Congress. This deep rooted nexus is more than apparent to political analysts. May I also remind Tellis that when Jesus himself faced a popularity contest he lost to Barabas, a murderer and terrorist, in a highly emotional contest. Even today multi-crore cricketers and skimpily clad actresses are more popular than grassroots social workers or RTI activists who have even been killed for the causes they espoused. We need to give Modi's popularity a rethink, which is what Prakash was attempting to do. —chhotebhai, Kanpur

Going beyond India's pre-election Modi hype

n the eve of India's general election 10 years ago psephologists and pollsters predicted another term in office for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), then led by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) popular leader and then prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee. But when the results came, Vajpayee and his NDA failed to get a majority. Now, television news channels are once again carpet-bombing the political landscape with surveys that predict doom for the incumbent Congress Party and its alliance. If TV channels are to be believed, Narendra Modi, the chief minister of Gujarat state and BJP's prime ministerial candidate, has all but won the upcoming election. It’s not difficult to see why Modi is so popular among a certain segment of the population. Many in India say he, as chief minister of Gujarat, presided over the massacre of Muslims in 2002, an act which has seen him being denied a visa to travel to the United States. At one time, he faced arrest in the UK, as there were two British nationals among the thousands killed in the state. But the very issue that got him US sanctions, and the abhorrence of not just Indian Muslims but national civil society, also made him the “hridaya samrat”, or the King of the Hearts, of majoritarian hyper-nationalist segments

of Hindu society, which sees religious minorities as second-class citizens, if not outright anti-nationals. The Modi rhetoric against Pakistan and his claim of a “development agenda” projected him as a “strong and modern leader.’ Large-scale tax concessions made him the darling of the corporate and industrial sectors. Taken together, here was a man of the moment who in one stroke would lift India out of its economic crisis with his prosperity gospel, and would “teach a lesson” to India’s internal and external enemies, among them militant Muslims and neighbors Pakistan and Bangladesh. For those unfamiliar with sub-continental politics, Pakistan is understood to be fueling Islamic militancy and terrorism in India, while Bangladesh, not a military superpower, is presumed guilty of pushing millions of illegal migrants into India. Pitted against Modi is the scion of the Gandhi family, 43-year-old Rahul Gandhi, the British-educated development economist pitchforked into leadership as vice-president of the Congress Party. He is, by default, its prime ministerial candidate. The candidature is only presumed, because the party says prime ministers are chosen by elected members of parliament and not by parties or the press. Gandhi brings a certain freshness

and innocence to Indian politics. But his is not the persona that will launch a thousand warships, or threaten India’s militants and Pakistan’s irregular armed militias that routinely penetrate the Kashmir valley. He is seen as a soft person, almost a namby-pamby. His speeches are full not of aggression and rhetoric, but of plaintive cries for reform. He promises a brave new world in which the poor and the women will be empowered, and where there will be transparency in governance. He may well appeal to the youth, but his political charm remains untested. This is an unequal media battle. Modi is easily the more media savvy person. He has excellent professional help in his public relations, with major international image management groups involved in fine-tuning the nitty gritty of a strategy that can sell a prime ministerial candidate to the public with the same finesse that it sells breakfast cereal and skin whitening cream to the upwardly mobile 400 million of India’s 1.2 billion population. And therein lies the problem for India’s indigenous election forecast companies and American institutions such as the Pew Foundation that said in a recent poll that Modi is more than three times as popular as Gandhi, and the BJP is close to assuming power. Most predictions are based on surveys of a population sample that considers urban and rural divides, the youth factor, even education and income. They also consider whether the contest is a direct one, or has three or four major contending parties, which can muddy the waters. Some surveys take an overview of the caste factor, which plays a critical role in electoral preferences and voter loyalty in almost every state of the country. Kerala diocese threatens to fight election over green commission

Kozhikode: The demand of Church groups in Kerala to scrap a high level green committee's recommendation has snowballed into a political issue on Sunday when officials of Thamarassery diocese threatened to field their own candidates in the upcoming national election. Spokesperson of the diocese Fr Abraham Kalipurayidathil said the diocese plans to field its own candidates as independents if the government fails to abandon the field its own candidates as independents. They Repair Broken Marriages

live and Cathy are happily mar ried with five children and eleven grandchildren. Cathy was a nurse in Ireland and Clive a fire officer in London. It’s a time of their life when they should be sitting on a rocking chair thanking God for all the challenges and the blessings through their married life. But thankful to God as they are, they have chosen to continue what they began much earlier in their married life: repairing broken marriages and reconciling hurting couples. “We have been through it all, but we never parted because we had the Lord on our side” says Clive, looking lovingly at his smiling wife Cathy. The two were on a visit to India to introduce their program called Retrouvaille’(pronounced re-tro-vi with a long i) a French word meaning rediscovery. They now work in collaboration with the CCBI Commission for the Family and other related organizations. Fr. Adolf Washington caught-up with this couple during their visit to India, to know more about Retrouvaille’s mission. Excerpts from an interview What does Retrouvaille actually offer couples? The program offers tools needed to rediscover a loving marriage relationship. Thousands of couples headed for cold, unloving relationships or divorce have successfully overcome their marriage problems by attending the program. When did it all begin? Retrouvaille had its beginnings in the Province of Quebec, Canada. In 1977, in the first weekend programme was presented to French-speaking couples. Later, it was translated into English by the Retrouvaille community in Toronto who strengthened the contents and developed the postweekend phase. Retrouvaile communities today are actively serving in most parts of the USA, Canada, Australia, Costa Rica, Germany, Malaysia,

Mexico, New Zealand, the Philippines, Trinidad and the West Indies. What do you think are reasons that couples tend to separate? Selfishness, greed, lack of openness and communication with each other and not praying together are some of the reasons that lead to separation. Lack of preparation before marriage also leads to complications in the relationship between husband and wife. Is the program like a retreat? Retrouvaille program consists of a weekend experience combined with a series of 6-12 post-weekend sessions over 3 months. It provides tools to help put your marriage in order again. The main emphasis of the program is on communication in marriage between husband and wife. It will give couples the opportunity to rediscover each other. It is not a retreat, marriage counseling, or a sensitivity group. There are neither group dynamics nor group discussions on the weekend. It is not a time for hurting; it is a time for healing. Retrouvaille is Catholic in origin but couples of all faiths and those with no faith tradition are welcome and encouraged to attend. Christian Multi-Denomination weekends may also be available in some areas. Is it meant for already separated couples?

It is for couples with marital problems including those who are considering marriage separation and those who are already separated or divorced that want marriage help. Some couples come to Retrouvaille during the initial signs of a marriage problem. Other couples are in a state of despair and hopelessness when they attend the program. These latter couples often consider the Retrouvaille their final option. Does Retrouvaille address the issue of co-habiting? Retrouvaille program is not designed nor intended for couples in a co-habitating relationship. How is the program different from marriage preparation courses or counseling? During the weekend phase, a team of three couples and a priest or three couples and a Christian minister and spouse give a series of presentations. The weekend is not a spiritual retreat, not a marriage encounter or marriage seminar although it does have the characteristics of each of these and much more. Resolving Conflicts In Marriage

ew couples like to admit it, but conflict is common to all marriages. We have had our share of conflict and some of our disagreements have not been pretty. We could probably write a book on what not to do! Start with two selfish people with different backgrounds and personalities. Now add some bad habits and interesting idiosyncrasies, throw in a bunch of expectations, and then turn up the heat a little with the daily trials of life. Guess what? You are bound to have conflict. It’s unavoidable. Since every marriage has its tensions, it isn’t a question of avoiding them but of how you deal with them. Conflict can lead to a process that develops oneness or isolation. You and your spouse must choose how you will act when conflict occurs. One reason we have conflict in marriage is that opposites attract. Usually a task-oriented individual marries someone who is more people-oriented. People who move through life at breakneck speed seem to end up with spouses who are slower-paced. But after being married for a while (sometimes a short while), the attractions become repellents. You may argue over small irritations—such as how to properly squeeze a tube of toothpaste—or over major philosophical differences in handling finances or raising children. You may find that your backgrounds and your personalities are so different that you wonder how and why God placed you together in the first place. It’s important to understand these differences, and then to accept and adjust to them. Just as Adam accepted God’s gift of Eve, you are called to accept His gift to you. God gave you a spouse who completes you in ways you haven’t even learned yet. We were no exception. Perhaps

the biggest adjustment we faced early in our marriage grew out of our differing backgrounds. It was as though we came from two different countries with totally different traditions, heritages, habits, and values. The differences became apparent early in our marriage. All of our differences are magnified in marriage because they feed what is undoubtedly the biggest source of our conflict—our selfish, sinful nature. Maintaining harmony in marriage has been difficult since Adam and Eve. Two people beginning their marriage together and trying to go their own selfish, separate ways can never hope to experience the oneness of marriage as God intended. We are all self-centered; we all instinctively look out for number one, and this leads directly to conflict. Marriage offers a tremendous opportunity to do something about selfishness. We have seen the Bible’s plan work in our lives, and we’re still seeing it work daily. We have not changed each other; God has changed both of us. The answer for ending selfishness is found in Jesus and His teachings. He showed us that instead of wanting to be first, we must be willing to be last. To experience oneness, you must give up your will for the will of another. But to do this, you must first give up your will to Christ, and then you will find it possible to give up your will for that of your spouse.

To pursue the resolution of a conflict means setting aside your own hurt, anger, and bitterness. It means not losing heart. My challenge to you is to “keep your relationships current.” In other words, resolve that you will remain in solid fellowship daily with your spouse— as well as with your children, parents, coworkers, and friends. Confronting your spouse with grace and tactfulness requires wisdom, patience, and humility. Here are a few other tips we’ve found useful: O Check your motivation. Will your words help or hurt? O Check your attitude. Loving confrontation says, “I care about you. I respect you and I want you to respect me. O Listen to your spouse. Seek to understand his or her view, and ask questions to clarify viewpoints. O Focus on the problem, rather than the person. O Focus on behavior rather than character. O Focus on the facts rather than judging motives. O Above all, focus on understanding your spouse rather than on who is winning or losing. The key to maintaining an open, intimate, and happy marriage is to ask for and grant forgiveness quickly. Every marriage operates on either the “Insult for Insult” or the “Blessing for Insult” relationship. To give a blessing first means stepping aside or simply refusing to retaliate if your spouse gets angry. It also means doing good. Sometimes doing good simply takes a few words spoken gently and kindly, or perhaps a touch, a hug, or a pat on the shoulder. It might mean making a special effort to please your spouse by performing a special act of kindness. Being a blessing means seeking peace, actually pursuing it. When you eagerly seek to forgive, you are pursuing oneness, not isolation.

How Good Is The Milk We Drink?

Over recent years, however, scientific evidence has linked different types of milk to a variety of health scares. Drinking excess milk can cause diseases such as diabetes and some cancers O Swedish researchers have also formerly declared that drinking more than one glass of milk a day could double the risk of contracting ovarian cancer. O Whole Cow's Milk : One piece of research says women who have more than 90g of fat a day from sources such as full cream milk are at an increased risk of breast cancer. This could be, because pregnant cows produce oestrogen, which goes into the milk. Excess oestrogen has been linked to breast cancer. O Another study linked high consumption of full-fat milk to increased risk of coronary heart disease in women. Again, this could be because of its high fat content, which is linked to elevated cholesterol. O

Now new Swedish research has linked drinking more than a glass of milk a day to ovarian cancer. The milk sugar lactose is thought to over-stimulate the production of hormones, which could encourage tumours. O Semi-skimmed Cow's Milk : Like whole milk, semi-skimmed and skimmed contain valuable amounts of all the B vitamins, phosphorous and zinc. O Those who are intolerant of the milk sugar lactose are vulnerable to reaction regardless of the type of cow's milk they drink. O Skimmed Cow's Milk : Skimmed milk contains 0.1 per cent fat and about half the calories of the full-fat version. O Women who are post menopausal or who have a family history of osteoporosis should choose skimmed milk in preference to whole. It also contains more water- soluble B vitamins. O It is also an excellent alternative to full-cream milk for those who suffer irritable bowel syndrome, since fatrich foods are thought to aggravate the condition. O Coconut Milk : The coconut milk sold in supermarkets is not usually fresh. It is produced instead by squeezing liquid from grated coconut flesh, then adding water. New Carmelite Priest Ordained in Mumbai Feb.27th 2014 was indeed an auspicious day for the Carmelites of Karnataka Goa Province and for St. Joseph’s Church, Mira Road. On this gracious day the son of the soil, Deacon Nitesh Rodrigues was raised to the Order of Priesthood by his Excellency Most Rev. John Rodrigues, the Auxiliary Bishop of Bombay. Fr.Nithesh hails from Rajodi, Vasai diocese (second Carmelite Vocation from the Diocese). About 40 priests concelebrated at the Eucharistic banquet and a large number of faithful took part in the Liturgy with greatest devotion. Fr. Ivan D’souza animated the Liturgy. A short felicitation program was held after the sacred liturgy. The Parish Priest Fr. Dominic Vas, congratulated the new priest on behalf of the Parish and Fr.
