Make Your Day More Productive Understand the importance of a productive day. Plan your day according to the most important, biggest task, not the smallest and easiest. .. So here are some tips for a more productive day Set 3-5 daily goals Don’t write a long list of 101 things to get done before noon. Set 3-5 non-negotiable goals for the day. That doesn’t mean you may not get more done. But take the pressure off to cram in as much as possible. If your goals involve many steps and longer time, then just give yourself 3 tasks. If they are smaller and require less time (replying to emails, doing some research), then allow yourself five.
Budget time Decide how much time you need or want to spend on each goal. Be realistic in what you can achieve if you are deeply focused on the tasks involved. Then pad the time with an extra 30-60 minutes. You may not need it, but you won’t feel in place. rushed and pressured. Set a time when you begin working on the goal. If you aren’t finished, decide if you want to Between each of your daily goals, give yourself bigger move on to the next goal or if breaks where you can grab a completing the one you are bite to eat, check emails, reply working on is more important. to calls, But set a timer for these Take a Nap at Work as well. You can use extra time Research shows that the more hours you work Remove distractions at the end of the day to finish continuously, the greater the toll on your perforthem. If list. Distractions will kill productivity. there’s remaining time in the day,
Allow breaks and rewards If you have a hard time focusing in general, even without distractions, break down your goal or task into 15-minute intervals. Set a timer and work steadily for 15 minutes, then take a 5-minute break and reward yourself with something that won’t pull you away from the task. Stand up and stretch. Close your eyes and breathe. Look out the window. Jog

Do this to making your day more productive: 1. Plan your day 2. Prioritize work 3. Optimize commuting time 4. Take breaks 5. Avoid conflicts 6. Share your success 7. Adjust your attitude 8. Eliminate small talk 9. Learn & improve 10. Set your milestones
pick one more priority task and follow the same steps above. Keep adding priority tasks until you are ready to be done for the day. By choosing fewer goals each day and focusing on them intently, you will find you are far more productive and successful with your work and life. You’ll feel more in control of your time, your priorities, and your state of mind.

Christian NGOs Dominate UN, Claims Report London: A recent study has found that Christian non-government organisations (NGOs) dominate the UN while Hindu and Buddhist voluntary organisations remain under-represented at the 193-member organisation, a British daily reported Wednesday. The study, undertaken by Jeremy Carrette with colleagues from the University of Kent's department of religious studies, underlines the need to increase non-Christian representation in world peacemaking, The Guardian reported. The Religious NGOs and the United Nations report said that more than 70 percent of religious NGOs at the UN are Christian, and that there is historical privilege in allowing the Vatican a special observer status, as both a state and a religion, the daily said. It calls for greater awareness, transparency and equality in the way religious NGOs operate within the UN, and more emphasis on religious tolerance. The report also asks for greater understanding of how religions enhance and constrain human rights and provides evidence that funding limits other religious traditions from establishing NGO work at the UN. Islam is represented more significantly through the collective of states (the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation) rather than civil society NGOs, which are dominated by Catholic groups, according to the report. Funding is major issue in preventing Asian religions, such as Hinduism and Buddhism, equal access, it said. "The report highlights that while all religions are represented in some way in the peacemaking system of the UN, there are structural and historical differences that need to be addressed," Carrette said. The report says the number of inter-faith and New Age NGOs is very small, and religious NGOs in total form only 7.29 percent of the total of consultative status NGOs at the UN. But despite their small size, some religious NGOs can have a far greater influence, the research suggests. Among the most active religious NGO groups are Catholics, Quakers and the Baha'i faith, which have some of the highest number of meetings with UN diplomats. IANS

The Church in 2014:
What we can look forward to
A
regard to reforms ushered in by the Second Vatican Council. Blessed John opened the council in 1962, and Blessed John Paul attended all four sessions as a bishop. The ceremony could thus serve as an occasion for Pope Francis to expound on his own understanding of Vatican II and its legacy for the church.
fter a year that included the historic resignation of Pope Benedict XVI and a series of celebrated innovations by Pope Francis, it is hard to imagine 2014 at the Vatican could be nearly as eventful. Of course, the biggest stories are likely to be those that come by surprise, but in the meantime, here are developments bound to loom large in Vatican news over the coming year:
New Cardinals: Pope Francis is scheduled to create new cardinals Feb. 22. By that time, no more than 106 members of the College of Cardinals will be under the age of 80 and thus eligible to vote in a conclave to elect a new pope. Under rules established by Pope Paul VI, the college should not have more than 120 such members, though subsequent popes have occasionally exceeded that number. So Pope Francis can be expected to name at least 14 new cardinal electors. The election of the first Latin American pope has raised expectations of greater geographical diversity among cardinal electors, so the new slate might prove relatively heavy on names from statistically underrepresented regions, especially Latin America and Africa. Vatican reform: The eight-member Council of Cardinals that Pope Francis

Papal trip to the Holy Land: The Vatican has yet formed to advise him on governance of the universal church and reform of the Vatican bureaucracy has already joined him for two rounds of meetings at the Vatican and will do so again in February. The body is working on the first major overhaul of the Roman Curia, the church's central administration at the Vatican, since 1988. Although the council has not announced a timeline for its work, Pope Francis has established a record of acting fast; in December, he approved an idea for an international commission on the sexual abuse of children just one day after the council proposed it. So few will be surprised if the council gives him a draft of an apostolic constitution reorganizing the curia before the end of 2014.
Canonization of two popes: The double canonization ceremony of Blessed John XXIII and Blessed John Paul II, scheduled for April 27, is almost certain to draw crowds larger than the more than 1 million who attended the latter's beatification in May 2011. By choosing to declare the sanctity of both men on the same day, Pope Francis may be trying to emphasize fundamental continuities between two popes widely seen as respectively liberal and conservative, especially with
to announce dates or an itinerary for an expected papal visit to the Holy Land but has not denied recent reports that it will take place in late May and last three days, with stops in Israel, Jordan and the Palestinian territories. Pope Francis has said a Holy Land visit would include a meeting with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, considered first among equals by Orthodox bishops. The trip would be Pope Francis' second outside of Italy, following his visit to Brazil in July 2013, and the first planned during his pontificate. The destination would be fitting for a pope whose relations with Jews have been exceptionally warm and who has made peace in the Middle East a priority of his geopolitical agenda. While a three-day papal visit would be unusually brief for such a prominent destination, it would be appropriate for Pope Francis, who has a heavy agenda of reform at home and the media flair to reach the world without leaving the Vatican.
Divorced and remarried Catholics: An extraordinary session of the Synod of Bishops will meet at the Vatican for two weeks in October to discuss the "pastoral challenges of the family in the context of evangelization." Source: Catholic News Service

PARIVARTAN – AK-45 AK- 45 {a 45 year old Arvind Kejrival} turned out to be a human version of the world famous AK-47 whose founder, coincidentally, passed away a few days back. This most lethal weapon has been highly effective. It has silenced thousands of people the world over. It has become a symbol of elimination. The newly elected Chief Minister of Delhi has acquired the title of a giant killer – a La Samson. His ascendancy to fame stems from his unrelenting war against corruption in high places which has robbed the common man of the legitimate share of the national pie. This young crusader with his one point programme flattened the Congress Party in the Delhi elections with a higher vote share than even the BJP but with fewer seats. Reluctantly the AAP has formed a highly fragile Government in Delhi with outside support from the Congress Party whom they had targeted as their prime opponents. Though ironical, these two parties came together, thanks to the initiative taken by outgoing Chief Minister – Sheila Dixit. She knew that she could be a target of the new regime for her deeds of omission and commission and the best way of blunting it was to align with it. AAP will have to take the Congress party along all the time for survival. Kejrival has promised the moon to the people of Delhi. He followed the pattern set by other smaller parties which do not hope to win. They promise things which they themselves know cannot be implemented because they do not lose anything except putting the main parties on the defensive. The AAP too did not expect to win but having won sizeable seats, developed cold feet when it came to forming the Government. Ultimately, it took the plunge and is now saddled with the onerous task of fulfilling the many promises. He has begun with free drinking water, subsidized power and despite constraints will maximize his brand value to fight the Lok Sabha elections. Undoubtedly, AK-45 has upped
13 January 2014
VIEWS on NEWS the expectations of the common man who sees him as a new Messiah. He has projected himself as a politician with a difference. People believe him and are prepared to give him a chance. Other parties are getting cold feet already. He is going to impact the general elections for sure. He will have to remember one thing - it is easy to control and lead a handful of members but the real test will be when the party grows bigger. That will be the acid test for him. *****
Mincemeat At Kingsmead The Indian Cricket team which showed some spine in the first test match, after having been mauled in the one-dayers, flopped very badly in the deciding encounter with a 10 wicket loss. This is astonishing because the Indians were expected to win here where the hosts have been at the receiving end all the time. The showing was pathetic especially in the second innings when the wicket was not unplayable. Earlier the hosts made 500 and romped home without losing a wicket in the second innings. The record of the Indian team overseas has been dismal with no win in 11 straight tests since June 2011. The team ranks second, thanks to their performance at home under Dhoni – 70% as against 30% abroad. His overall success rate in 21 tests is a good 50%. In the first 10 tests overseas though, the success rate was 50% but in the latest 11 tests the success rate has been a dismal 0%. It could not have been worse than that. It is time re-visit the captaincy issue at least in this format – the tests. Mahendra Singh Dhoni has contributed his mite and the cricket lovers are grateful to him. Yet in the larger interest of the game, it is time to pass the baton. Could Cheteswar Pujara step in his shoes? He is also a cool guy like Dhoni. Virat Kolhi is temperamental to lead the test team. He may be good for the shorter versions.

No Hype – No Fanfare South African Jacques Kallis, King Kallis as he is popularly known, said ‘good-bye’ to test cricket at the end of the 2nd and final test against India. He decided after the first test that he should call it a day in the longer version of the game. At that point he had played 165 tests with over 13000 runs, 44 centuries, over 290 wickets and 199 catches. This finest all-rounder in the history of the game, never really received the adulation that was rightly his. He did not ‘prolong’ for months and years just to reach any milestone. He could have gone on and on to increase his tally of the centuries or even to reach 300 wickets. Neither did he aspire to overtake Ricky Ponting to reach the 2nd spot. He was one catch away from 200 [he was 199 after the first test]. It shows that these greats do not look at personal records. They play for the country. Indians play for themselves. The retirement of this great player was simple without fanfare or media hype like the one we saw when our own Sachin Tendulkar finally ‘decided’ to retire when, where, how and also against whom. For months there were discussions, debates. The tamasha during the last test that he played was Sachin-centric – SRT200. There was no such thing for Kallis. Like the great cricketer that he is, Jacques Kallis retired when people are asking him “Why”. He did not wait for “Why Not”. South Africa will find it very hard to fill the void. The real test will be when they have to confront the Australians fresh from a 5-0 Ashes white-wash against a hapless English team.

Are We Ready For A Change ?
T
he year 2013 came to an end and the new 2014 is welcomed by all young and old. Last year was an eventful year for all of us as we kept on fighting for our rights. Sometime I wonder whether the life itself is a struggle or is there any time left to sit back and relax. Human memory is so short that when something new happens old is naturally sidelined but there are incidences like land acquisition notices to St. Anthony’s Malwani & Our Lady of Assumption, Kandivli by BMC are still fresh in our minds as if it happened just a few days ago. The issue is so close to our hearts that it’s impossible to forget and remained like a unhealed wound on our psyche. As a community, we are all interlinked because of our faith and a common upbringing. We may not agree with each other on all issues but when it comes to faith we have amply demonstrated to the world that as a community nobody can take us for a ride. When BMC issued notices for acquiring Church property for road widening we were much agitated and ready to do anything within a short notice but gradually things started cooling down and gave us little breathing space. The SOUL – save our land committee has been consistent in it’s approach saying “not an inch of land”. BMC also wants to demolish our centuries old crosses which do not even occupy a few meters of space unlike other religious places. BMC & politicians, hands-in-glow with the land mafia are eyeing the land of centuries old institutions as they are the only open spaces left in Mumbai. First they sanction building plans on one side, then they send a land acquisition notice to the institution on the other side. For BMC this a development issue but for us it’s survival of the community. The politicians we have elected are direct part of this unique development. Just during the Mount Mary feast they tried to block the approach road to the mount and now they have reached St. Martins road to bulldoze the compound walls of original cottages and leave them open for all kinds nuisance. It looks like
6
Opinion
BMC has a well planned strategy for all of us in the days to come. If you look around you can see that all widened road space has fallen into the hands of land mafia or illegal eateries who cook on the road which not only hinders the free movement but also become a breeding ground for corruption. Politically, we are not a vote bank except a few pockets like Orlem, IC and Mira Road. When elections are near, every party is wooing one community or other except our community as everyone knows that we are dedicated Congress supporters. That precisely why congress has taken us for granted. We had no other choice as it’s ideology is different from others. But one can still argue that maximum riots have taken place only during Congress regime whether Nellie (Assam), Bhagalpur or Delhi Sikh massacre to name a few. People are still killed on a daily basis in Assam where Congress is in power. The AAP election in the Capital has changed everything as the big players are running for cover and good people joining AAP all over the country. We have seen enough arrogance of the ruling parties whether in Maharashtra or in the southern states like Goa & Karnataka. Some members of the community, once staunch supporters of Congress are also disillusioned with the party as the elected representatives started looking the other way when voters needed them the most. The party which called itself “the
Aam Aadmi
saviour of minorities” is hell bent on supporting road widening initiative at Malwani by acquiring Church property and keeping the other side intact. The writing on the wall is very clear for all of us that the area MP himself said during one of his visits to Malwani church in June ‘13 “Road to banana hi padega” as if there is no motorable road in that area. It’s very clear that politicians love to do the work which only serves their interests. The rejection of Adarsh scam report by the Maha. assembly also is another eye opener. In spite of public opinion going against the ruling party. it chose to consign it to the dust-bin. Crores of public money has been spent but the report is reduced to a piece of paper by our own elected representatives. Is there any bigger tamasha than this? Friends, it’s time for us to look beyond these traditional rulers as the elections in the Capital provided ample opportunity for all of us. People, if they decide can overturn any regime in a non-violent manner and the arrogant politicians can be told to mend their ways. If they do not improve let us create an alternative in Maharashtra too as the AAP experiment has proved. The people of this country are longing for a change and it’s possible right NOW. The opinion expressed in this article are my own.

Homosexuality Cardinal Gracias said that the Church never considered gay people criminals and that the Church teaches that homosexuals have the same dignity as every other human being and condemns all forms of unjust discrimination ,harassment or abuse. ( The Secular Citizen, December 23, 2023 ) Cardinal Dolan of America said the same and added that homosexual acts are considered as sins by the Church .It is not clear why this important aspect of Catholic teaching was omitted by the Indian Cardinal in his statement. Pope Francis statement " who am I to judge " has been twisted by the media to show that there is a change in the teaching. While commenting on this, the American preacher Franklin Graham (son of the famous preacher. Billy Graham ) said Pope might have meant that God only can judge and not man as the whole Bible speaks of such acts as most abominable. The Catholic Church teachings are from God and not made by men or by their legislation. —K. C.Thomas
What the Bible has to say about homosexuality! The Supreme Court's decision to criminalise homosexuality and gay/lesbian marriages is right. Legalising homosexuality and gay/lesbian marriages will lead many souls to hell. Homosexuality is a disease of the mind and

homosexuals need counseling to get out of their habit. According to the Catholic Church, sexual intimacy between a man and a woman is the normal method of male and female bonding (emotionally and physically) because it corresponds to the design of our bodies and because it is the normal means by which offspring are created. If God had intended the human race to be fulfilled with both heterosexual and homosexual marriages, He would have designed our bodies to allow reproduction through both means and made both means of sexual intercourse healthy and natural. Homosexual anal intercourse carries a high risk of disease, which is recognized in the holy scriptures, where gay men are said to receive in their bodies the due penalty for their sins. The Holy Bible clearly tells us in 1 Corinthians, Chapter 6, Verses 9 and 10: “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor
adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” God will not honour a sinful marriage between two homosexuals or lesbians. Leviticus, Chapter 18, Verse 22 also tells us, “Do not practice homosexualiX-Spam-Subject: YES XSpam-Subject: YES ty, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin.” Leviticus, Chapter 20, Verse 13 again says,. “If a man practices homosexX-Spam-Subject: YES XSpam-Subject: YES uality having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of capital offense." The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and one must not misuse it for any wrong purpose. Remember, God destroyed the twin cities of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis, Chapter 19) because the men in those cities were filled with lust and were gays. —Jubel D'Cruz, Dombivili

How To Have
D
A Good Family Life
espite the perfect picture fami lies that always seem to loom over us on television, posters and bill boards, there are many more complexities and dynamics to families than all smiles and laughter. All families are different, and all families have their own issues, but with the right amount of work and determination, you can make your family life the very best it can be, by developing your relationships and learning more about yourself and your relatives. No one's family life is perfect; but you can make yours good, so why not?
1. Understand your family well. If you don't then there can be many misunderstandings and fights. Be with them whenever you can and get to know them better. A lot of families now don't get to know each other too well because they're too busy. Plan some family time, like, a movie, or a family game, or even as little as eating dinner together. 2. Respect your family. Your children, your wife/husband are now yours but remember at the end of the day they are also humans. They also have an opinion or suggestion. Sometimes it can be bad or good. Never be angry with someone's opinion, they have their opinions, and no one's perfect. 3. Give time. No one wants to be ignored just for some meeting or work. Give time to each and every one of them so you can understand every individual properly and this can prevent any misunderstandings in the future. 4. Treat everyone as equal. Whether its your maid or step child, they also deserve love and affection from you as you deserve from your wife/husband or from your own child. Treat everyone like you would want to be treated, and getting along with your family should be easy
8
5. Never scream or shout at anyone. This can create hatred for you in their hearts. By simply making them understand can do a lot. Why waste energy when you can do it calmly? Try not to fight with your siblings. Fighting can tear your relationship apart and you'll regret it when you get older. Treasure the time you have with your siblings, you can't get it back.
What it Means to be Good "Goodness is the only investment that never fails." "An investment?" Yes, that's right, an investment ... in your mate, your children, your employees, or even a stranger. So what does it mean to be good? It means that we are to be like the God we represent. It means we are not called to be above average in our ethics, but pure—as good as God. It means we need to be honest when no one is looking, when our children are watching, and when our neighbors (or associates) tempt us to be bad. We need good Christians who are determined to establish good Christian homes. We need a resurgence of good homes—people who are committed to obeying God. Someone said : "India is great because India is good. When India ceases to be good, she will cease to be great." Good homes will preserve our nation from moral collapse in this generation and the next.
6. Never discriminate. 7. Learn to compromise. When you or someone else in your family wants the total opposite of each other, find a way to work it out to give you all what you want. 8. Help each other. When you see your sibling or parent needs help, help them. Doing little things such as holding the door for them, or helping someone with homework. 9. Organizing surprise birthday parties and celebrating any individual's achievements can really help. 10. Avoid using offensive and abusive words against each other. 11. Sometimes teenagers can feel sad or lonely. First ask them about it and if they don't want to share then its OK. It's just hormones. If you think that something is really bad, ask their close friends and help him/her. 12. Never ever break any promise. This can hurt them or make them feel that you are a liar and every time will break promises. 13. Learn to forgive. When someone you care about hurts you, you can hold on to anger, resentment and thoughts of revenge — or embrace forgiveness and move forward. 14. Don't scold too much. Scolding can be good for them but never overdo it. 15. Make them realize in an easy way. If someone in your family has done something wrong or have betrayed your trust, make them realize their mistake in an easy way.

Family Culture: Shared identity and belonging
H
ow do you hold a family to gether? How do you make kids WANT to spend time with the family? How do you give yourchildren the motivation to work things through with their siblings and with you? Much of the answer has to do with the family culture you create, which can take your family life from good to great. Here's how.
3. Seize any excuse to cel- 5. Honour each others' pasebrate and have fun together when- sions. Take an interest in each other’s ever possible. Sock fights while folding laundry? Impromptu silly songs in the car? A race to see who can put the groceries away fastest? Food limericks at dinner? Getting drenched in a warm summer rain? The family that plays together builds relationship glue for the hard times. Not to mention, they have more fun!
1. Consciously create a family identity. Obviously, you want 4. Find ways to enjoy each this identity to be positive and expan- other. Her music choices may sound sive, not limiting. Is yours an athletic family? Do you all follow current events? Talk about who's reading what? Most families have several identities: The Traveling Smiths can also be the Bookworm Smiths who love to cook together or collect funny jokes.
2. Eat dinner together whenever possible. You’ve probably heard that having dinner together as a family is a good thing for your kids, but you may not realize that it could change your child’s life. Dinner is the best predictor we have of how kids will do in adolescence. The more frequently kids eat dinner with their families, the better they do in school, and the less likely they are to become sexually active, suffer depression, get involved with drugs or alcohol, or consider suicide.

like noise to you, and she may have no interest in that stroll on the beach that makes you happy just to be alive. But if you put a little energy into it, you will find ways to enjoy each other, whether its making waffles together on Sunday morning or a shopping trip with lunch just for the two of you.
Build A Good Family Spend "Prime Time" Together Strong families set aside "prime time" to be together. By spending pleasant, positive time together, families build up a reserve of good feelings. When trouble comes it has to be shared with the family and resolved. If the problems are not balanced by shared pleasures, in time, people may come to associate family life with unpleasant rather than pleasant things. So when your life begins to be too fragmented, you might want to cross other things off your list and spend more time: Talking together Planning together Working together Playing together Laughing together
fascinations. If you started dating someone whose ruling passion was antiques, you’d probably want to understand what they loved about old things, and maybe read a book or accompany them on an antiquing foray. Your son’s obsession with Star Wars novels may be seem like a waste of time ("Why isn’t he reading the classics?") but your interest in hearing about the plots, even if they all sound the same at first, will go a long way toward making him feel comfortable talking with you about what’s important to him when something’s bothering him.
6. Keep the tone loving. Every household has an emotional tone, which changes but tends toward a particular range of notes. I tend towards a cozy sanctuary feel, my husband tends toward funny and raucous; either can be embracing. The point is to notice what creates discordance and avoid that. That may mean reducing screen time, or agreeing that certain sections of the house are for quiet pursuits, or simply monitoring tones of voice and reminding kids when they start shouting at each other. (Obviously, with young kids things tend to be loud, but that doesn't mean the tone isn't loving.)
7. Develop family rituals. Rituals, through their repetition, reinforce particular feelings and values. They may be the single most effective tool in creating family culture. (Click here for more on
8. Consider drawing up a Family Mission statement. It may seem artificial, but families who do it say the process helps them focus on what matters, and annual reviews/rewrites keep them on track. There are many resources online to get you started.

Life Changes After Marriage
M
arriage is a bonding between two people, two families, two societies, two traditions, which should be handled with care, respect, trust and love. Getting married and giving someone lifelong commitment is a huge change in itself. A lifetime is a long, long time to be with anyone. The goods and bads of marriage is very subjective but one thing that no one can deny is marriage does bring a change in life of both the girl and the boy. It’s no surprise to anyone that getting married will change a relationship. Life changes after marriage:
Changes the way you make decisions After marriage, the way you make decisions changes to a large extent. Once you get married, many important situations like where to live, style of parenting, future plans come up where a strong decision making is required. Even though there is room for making personal decisions, you are also expected to consult your partner for effective decision making. The foundation of a healthy relationship is two individuals making wise decisions. It is never advisable for a couple to involve each other in every decision they take as personal space is always required. But, after you get married, the “me” changes to “we” and the arena of decision making for all noteworthy choice becomes shared decision making. There are also situations when the consensus is not arrived and in those cases, usually the girl is expected to give up and the final call belongs to the husband. You now have to start thinking for two and make decisions that are not only in your best interests, but also the best interests of your spouse and your relationship together.
two instead on one. You’ll have to compromise your likings and interests which might be of going to a movie just because your partner wants to relax at home. Things change more when children come along. It’s amazing how your life starts revolving around that little baby. Sleep, temper, your likings, everything becomes secondary in life.
Changes your priorities Once you get married, your priorities changes. You think more about family, household chores, bills and the kids than the romantic dates you used to think about earlier. Preparing dinner and making sure that everyone is up for dinner prioritize over your daily serials and TV shows. Your spouse, his or her comfort and feelings becomes your top most priority.
You develop a sense of security
You learn how to compromise After marriage, you develop a deeper Before marriage, you just expect things to happen your way but once you get married, you simply can’t do things the way you used to. You have to learn to compromise and to give and take. Marriage is more about taking care of
10
sense of security as you will always have someone whom you can look forward to at any point of time, when you need them, someone to talk to. Initially, it’s difficult to get used to the other person, their things, their good
and bad habits but once you get along, it’s like a house on fire. You will always have someone to lean on, go places with, and talk to, and share things with and to take care of you. You’ll feel more secured and comfortable.
You learn to communicate better The way we communicate changes in most of the cases. People become more calm and composed in usual cases after marriage. You react differently to situations than you used to when you were not married. You learn to express yourself better and fix things in a calm manner. This change comes because after getting married you realize that if you’re going to be doing this for the rest of our lives we have to find out how to communicate better otherwise you’re not going to get anywhere. By respecting each other’s feelings and emotions the journey will always be smoother else it will be uneven and rough for both, the guy and the girl. A good marriage helps you to mature in many aspects such as patience, forgiveness, endurance, tolerance. And your level of maturity will definitely impact your relationship.

A Temple Where Bible Is Worshipped Dharwad: A temple in Karnataka has a unique tradition of worshipping the Bible. Priests at the Ajata Nagalingaswami temple in Navalgund town of Dharwad district offer flowers and ‘arti’ and light oil lamps before a copy of the Bible. Nagalingaswamy, a yogi who lived in the 19th century, is the presiding deity in the temple.
The Hindu ascetic who resembled Christ
Temple head Veerendra Swami said that the copy of the Bible in Kannada was published by a Committee of the Missionaries of Germans, London, and Wesleyan Missionary Societies, and printed at Mangalore in 1865. Swami has an interesting story to relate about the origin of the temple.
Pope Francis draws more than six million to Rome in first nine months which includes weekly general audiences, group audiences, liturgies and recitations of the Angelus and “Regina Coeli” on Sundays and holy days.

Kallappa, from Mushtigeri village of Bagalkot district, was a devotee of the mother goddess. A group of Christian missionaries gave him a copy of the Bible. Once when Nagalingaswami came to meet Kallappa, he hid the book from the yogi for some reason. However, in the course of their conversation, Nagalingaswami told him about his next birth and asked Kallappa to show him the Bible. The yogi pulled out a hook and drilled a hole in the book. He then dropped a Victorian silver coin into the hole, which came out from the other end. Nagalingaswami told Kallappa that he would take the rebirth when the hole filled on its own over a period of time. The story is part of the biography of the yogi published by the temple. Swami claimed that the hole had been shrinking over a period of time and the missing words on the perforated part had reappeared. The temple authorities have been recording the radius of this hole regularly. One can see circular lines around
the hole, which the temple authorities drew at different point in time. Anyone can access the Bible with prior permission before the morning puja. Even a ‘panja’ and a ‘sidgi’ brought here by the mystic have been preserved here. Source: The Hindu

The Family Get-together
M
y sister and nieces decided that a family get-together was necessary. There were many we hadn’t seen for decades and many more we didn’t even know. Waiting for a Lobo-Pinto get –together in the next world was too risky and fraught with many uncertainties. With people able to connect up through Face book and other inventions, it has become fashionable today to have such gettogethers — Veterans of the Algerian Conflict, graduates from the Dufferin, The Class of ’52. What better place to have such an event than Goa, the preferred location for International Weddings and Conventions and Family Gatherings. The high-light of the event was a presentation of the family trees. To develop these, grave-yards were visited to determine the correct names and who our ancestors really were. Great grand aunts in their “90s were contacted whose knowledge spanned six generations two past generations and four generations into the present. The toast master was instructed to bridge the millennia 18—to 2013. There were six generations to be covered with each generation having 7-8 members and each member generat-

He was advised that he should learn to bridge time by the invention of the Dash [ - ] on the tomb-stone 1935 - 2013. There were many incidents during the get-together. A five star hotel, in the premier tourist location in India, refused admission as the booking was for Christmas Eve which for them meant Christmas Evening [ Dec. 25 ] and not December 24. You discover that you are related to a person who lives in your own co-operative society. She is not only related to you but also to your wife, who connects with the Lobos and Pintos only through marriage. You have to be introduced to most of the guests as you don’t recognize them. You can’t recognize those you don’t know Development has changed the landscape of Goa and you no longer recognize the road or the land-marks. Nobody knows the 100 year old school that your uncle founded. You discover that 9 out of 10 persons contacted are unfamiliar with the locality and even the Goans are not from Goa but from Canada, UK, Bengal and Karnataka.
The journey to the venue for the function takes double or triple the time as the function happened to coincide with the festive season, which attracts tourists from all parts of India and abroad, a marriage in the family of the Chief Minister, the Sunburn Festival and even a visit by Narendra Modi coming to Goa to test the waters for the launch of his Election Campaign to become the Prime Minister. Goans are known to identify themselves by the village from which their forefathers came. To trace their origins one family assigned a retired priest to research the archives. The discovery was that way back one person was converted who took the name of Mendonca. As the family expanded the Mendoncas moved to Mangalore, Bangalore, Mumbai and elsewhere. Hence, all Mendoncas should understand that they are connected and the Mangalorian Mendoncas, in particular, should appreciate that they originated from Goa. As the world has become a Global Village the next move is to have a Get Together with representatives from each part of the world — Toronto, LA, Berlin, Brisbane, Tokyo, etc. Cheers!!

Christ’s Baptism Provided A Quantitative Need
T
he Judean wilderness was des tined to encase the pastoral ten derness and charisma of a ministry foretold centuries earlier : of one who would prepare the path for the Messiah. The prophet Isaiah had written, “ I hear a shout from the wilderness”. This Sunday celebrates the baptism of the Lord. John the Baptist lived in Nazareth and preached along the river Jordan, baptizing, and hearing the people of Jerusalem and Judea confess their sins. He did not tolerate the Sadduces and the Pharisees who wanted to be baptized. He considered them as snakes and demanded that they should first ‘bear fruit worthy of repentance’. (Mat.3:8), that they must amend their ways. A storm of welcome followed John wherever he went proclaiming the message to repent, for ‘the Kingdom of heaven has come near’(Mat.3:8). He could evoke an emotion of amazement and a depth of trust in his ministry. His was “the voice of one crying out in the wilderness.”(Mt.3:3). There were moments when John the Baptist would raise his hands and circle them over the heads of the crowds, waving his arms as though the gesture would bring down the Spirit of God. The people stood in awe of the prophet. John would wear a coat of camel’s hair. Around his waist the messenger of God put on a rough leather belt. His clothing was most uncomfortable, attracting both notice and respect. For food he ate locusts and honey. Nothing would change for John. He would go on baptizing with water, and promised the milling crowds that, “ one who is more powerful than I is coming after me. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”(Mt.3:11) Isaiah had also mentioned his coming through the words of God “ Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations.”(Is.42:1). In the ensuing passage of time ‘the Kingdom of heaven’ was faithfully unfolding in a corner of the small town

called Nazareth in the district of Galilee where the child Jesus was growing up into manhood. His foster-father was a carpenter, who by divine providence was delegated the task to protect, shelter and be the Messiah’s guide in the formative years. Joseph the carpenter lived in the sight of the Lord as guardian
BY MELVYN BROWN to both Mother Mary and Christ Jesus. When the time arrived Jesus came down to the river Jordan. It was the hour to implement his Father’s heavenly commission bestowed on him. This baptism would surely be the quantum leap across the Old Covenant to the New Testament. For Jesus would soon declare, “ I have come that you may have life and have it more abundantly.” He compared this life to fountains of living water. It was a warm and blistering afternoon. Already there were crowds of people waiting to be baptized by John. Jesus walked towards the water’s edge, asking John to baptize him. For a long moment of silence the prophet John said, “ I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me ?”(Mat.3:14) Jesus spoke in an audible voice so all present could hear him. “Please do it, for I must do all that is right.” John, calmly led Jesus a few steps lower in the water, and baptized him. Suddenly,
the Spirit of God in the form of a dove came upon Jesus. Out of nowhere a loud voice spoke, breaking the heavy laden air : “ This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” The prophesy of the prophets down the ages had now begun its spiritual journey. The chapters of the new Testament were being written for the Christian faithful : God was a God of love, a Father, who was forgiving and merciful. His love and mercy permeated through the spirit of Christ. His Church would bear witness to the faith. When feelings of frustration effects the spiritual health, trust in Jesus can overcome. John had once told his followers, and which applies in our world this day, “ Even now the ax is lying at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”(Mt.3:10). Crime and corruption cannot be minimized for it is undesirable, and will be destroyed. Christ, the Jewish Messiah would lay down his life to crystallize the word of God in our human lives. Furthermore the predictions of the prophet Isaiah and the vision of John the Baptist would seal the negative attitudes of disbelievers. Centuries later the core values of Christ’s teaching would become the way to effective compassion – and eventual happiness. The baptism of Christ provided the quantitative measure which was needed to begin his ministry on earth. In this scenario, John the Baptist became the spark to blend the spectrum of the Lord’s mission.

Looking Beyond Article 377 . . .
T
he promptness with which the Church has re acted to the recent Supreme Court reversal of the Delhi High Court’s four year-old decriminalization of homosexuality is both amazing and commendable. After all, all human persons have their individual rights to their individual propensities. So far so good! What is, however, puzzling is the silence of the Church in India to the late November 2013 news item that made headlines in major newspapers, viz. “Live-in relationship is neither a crime nor a sin, the Supreme Court has held while asking Parliament to frame laws by Ladislaus L for protection of women in such D’Souza a relationship and children born out of it.” The Church’s silence in the face of the country’s highest court of judicature virtually re-writing the definition of marriage and family is both astounding and deafening even as it is perplexing. Could it be that while the Church rightly condemns all discrimination against individuals with varying sex/ gender orientations, it has changed its own understanding of illicit heterosexual relationships and illegitimacy of progeny that is part of the live-in relationship which the court seeks to protect so zealously? O PLEASE! COULD SOMEONE KINDLY EXPLAIN THE ANOMALY, PLEASE!?! One would have thought that the Church ought to uphold staunchly the rightness of what is moral and amoral in public life. What it must do at the risk of appearing to abdicate its moral responsibility is this: on the one hand, the Church, both in India and the world at large, must openly pooh-pooh the very idea of same-sex marriage as being akin to playing dolls’ house; on the other, the Church in India must untiringly prevail upon the government [both Central and state] to clarify and re-affirm the validity and importance of MARRIAGE as the very basis of civil human society and the immorality of live-in relationships which have no identifying boundaries as such, literally pressing to have all legality ascribed to such immoral relationships scrapped forthwith.

Waiting For The New Year – Great Expectations !
A
ll the world over, people are waiting – some waiting anx iously, some eagerly, some very happy, some with sadness, some with hope , whatever ……….. all waiting for the new year to begin. They refuse to sleep and when the clock strikes 12 for the last time that night, that year, they say the long dark night by Melville X. is over, at last – Bye, Bye Old Year, D’Souza WELCOME NEW YEAR ! It is the dawn of a brand New Year. Yes, but what will the new year bring ? – that is the question, a million dollar question, on everyone’s mind ! Looking back at the old year just gone by - Was it good ? Was it bad ? Any regrets ? Have we lived our life well ? Did we utilize the year in a proper manner ? Do we feel that we could have spent some more time with our near and dear ones ? Do we feel we could have loved relationships more than money or other material things ? Did we let go off opportunities that came our way to do good or something worthwhile ? Did we experience life in it’s fullness ? Well, someone has said, “It turns out that the biggest regrets come not from what you do but from what you didn’t do — an opportunity unpursued, things left unsaid, life unexperienced”. So, here we are – a whole new year stands open before us. What are we expecting from the new year ? What are we going to make of it ? Do we expect that all our troubles will just go away ? Do we expect that our illnesses will just disappear ? Do we expect that our dreams will become a reality ? Do we expect that our career will zoom and we would reach the Top of the Ladder ? Do we expect that broken relationships in the family or outside would heal ? Do we expect that …………. What are we expecting from the world this New Year ? It may be true that there’s so much we expect in the New Year. Somebody writes, “We’re wired to expect the world to be brighter and more meaningful and more obviously interesting than it actually is. And when we realize that it isn’t, we start looking around for the real world.” That is as far as expectations go! What next ? What is our contribution towards making the New Year a little better than what it could be ? Things cannot just change overnight – it is we who have to make the move; it is we who would have to take that First step towards driving away our troubles, towards making our dreams a reality. A whole New Year is before us, let us make this year a truly enriching experience.

Some Inspiring Ways To Show Friends You Care A man went to face an interviewer. Board of Directors asked him, "Tell the difference between "Complete" and "Finish". The man replied, "I am clarifying with the example, "When you marry a right person you are "Complete" and when you marry the wrong one you are "Finish".
Send a thank-you note When you receive a gift, it’s customary to send a thank-you note.
One of the best ways to show your appreciation for friends is by giving them your full attention.
In sickness and in health... Love is a verb, so show up and do whatever you can to help. That may mean making soup or just offering your friend a shoulder to cry on. Either way, she will appreciate you being there for her.
Remember the milestones Is your friend getting a promotion or anticipating a special event? Keep track of what’s going on with him. Inquiring about the things that are happening in his life will let him know he’s important to you.
Be spontaneous It may seem like it takes forever to schedule time with friends, but nobody is so busy that they never have any free time.
Make their cause your own Does your friend volunteer for an organization, or donate to a worthy cause? Let your friend know that you respect her opinions, interests and beliefs, even if they don’t always align precisely with your own.
Ask for advice If you are lucky enough to have a friend who is especially wise, ask her for advice about a challenge you’re facing and thank her for sharing her wisdom. Invite your friend along Introduce your friend to other people you enjoy and care about—family members, co-workers, other friends— and invite her to join group activities with those people when you have a chance. One of the clearest ways to show you value and appreciate someone is to show them off. Pay attention

Celebrate your anniversary Who says anniversaries are just for couples? The day you met your best friend is a day that changed your lives in many wonderful ways, so why not commemorate that special day each year over lunch. Be loyal In daily conversation, it’s normal for people to talk about each other’s adventures or mishaps, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with that. But for your closest friends, demonstrate an extra level of loyalty by extolling their virtues while keeping their secrets safe.
AMAZING FACTS Einstein's Brain is Saved When Albert Einstein died in the year 1955, they didn't just save a lock of his while hair, they carved out his whole brain. Dr. Thomas Harvey performed the operation, a mere seven-and-a-half hours after Einstein's death, supposedly for scientific research. Then it vanished. It wasn't until 1978 what a bold journalist, named Steven Levy tracked down Dr. Harvey in Kansas, where the good doctor admitted he still had the brain, sliced in 240 pieces and kept in two jars filled with formaldehyde (preservative)
