For most part of the month of March, till April 2, 2011 the entire nation remained deeply involved in cricket on different grounds hosting World Cup competitions. It was a proud moment for us first when Virat Kohli held to a catch to cement India's place for the Finals. The victory in the semi finals against Pakistan was, as always, a very tense affair and the moment we won it, the entire nation heaved a sigh of relief. Call it a rivalry between the two teams or enmity between the two nations, India Pakistan tie in any kind of sports is a do or die affair where winners become heroes even when they lose unexpectedly in the next stage. But, we went on to win the finals against Sri Lanka to draw out almost everyone on the roads celebrating the victory. The media hype that was exclusive on the subject of Cricket and on our chances of winning, covered almost all the important places of the country on the night of 2nd April to show the way general public young and old, ladies and gents, the matinee idols who keep themselves away from public glare, the high profile politicians who remain escorted by security day in and day out, rejoiced together shouting “India is the Best”. We all rejoiced till the hours we normally go out for a morning walk. One thing that emerged from various comments of the players and the experts in the field was that the victory is the result of team work even when you can single out those who excelled from the others. We do not suggest that other participating teams missed out to gel as a team, but the one who fought together as one unit better than the other finally won. The credit does go to the captain but the glory is shared by all. What is true for sports is equally true in every field. It also applies to us. We can reach our goals when united for the fruits to be shared by all. Let us continue to strengthen our Association, have faith in its functioning and be truthful to ourselves individually and collectively.

task of undertaking activities to booster employment of youth of India. Though we have tried to tabulate the highlights of the Union Budget 2011-12 in the attached box yet let's take some key issues and see how these have been addressed in the budget.

High Inflation – Cause of Concern of Aam Admi: To control high inflation in the country it was necessary to reduce the fiscal deficit and restrict govt. expenditure. The real issue is how realistic is the figure of 4.6% of Fiscal Deficit and how will the expenditure be met

n Personal income tax exemption limit for individual tax payers raised to Rs 1.8 lakh from Rs 1.6 lakh. n Tax exemption limit for senior citizens increased to Rs 2.5 lakh from Rs 2.4 lakh and eligibile age for senior citizens reduced to 60 years against 65 years. n Tax exemption limit for senior citizens over 80 years at Rs 5 lakh. No new tax exemption limits for women. n SEZ to come under MAT. Minimum alternative tax raised to 18.5% vs 18%. n FY11 Fiscal deficit at 5.1%, revenue deficit at 3.4%.

2

8th February is the most awaited date in entire year by the captains of

the Industry, the professionals

providing various services, working class and even Aam Admi, as on this date the Govt. of India presents its Union Budget, which sets the economic road map for the year to come. This year too, for the union budget of 2011-12, a lot of hype was created by media and economic experts. Speculations on the Budget generally centered around, to name a few, issues like probable modifications in Indirect & Direct Taxes, introduction of Cash Transfers instead of subsidies, measure to control High Inflation (specially on food items), reforms to boost agricultural growth (pending special attention for long), introduction of Tax Reforms like GST & DTC

in years to come with a mere increase of 3% against 18% in the current year. The sharp increase in prices of commodities due to political disturbances in Arab world, ambitious target of disinvestment of Rs. 40,000 Crore and high projected tax revenue targets may not allow the FM to control his fiscal deficit as per his projections. As such, budget's contribution to tame inflation seems doubtful. The pressure on interest rates is going to be a concern for every section of society and we can't see any relief for industry or “Aam Admi” in the days to come. However, an effort to contain inflation has been made by setting aside Rs. 2200 crore to increase production of vegetables, millets, milk, pulses, palm oil and fodder. FM has proposed to set up vegetable clusters, initially close to Metros to ensure a steady supply. Incidentally, as at present, our
