Strategic Plan for District 3080 formulated at Level-2 Workshop

ur heart goes out to the family of President Ramesh Maini whom we lost suddenly at a very young age. He was a bright star and a performer. We shall miss him. I hope his club will continue with his plans and make his dreams come true.

Two months have flown and we have ten months to achieve goals we have set for ourselves. My club visits have started with the blessings of the Almighty with my first visit to the club in the holy city of ‘Anandpur Sahib’. As I move forward, the enthusiasm and energy I see in the Rotarians I meet, gives me hope that Team 10-11 will set new benchmarks this year. The Level-2 seminar on strategic planning at Panchkula and new members’ orientation meets at Dehra Dun, Roopnagar and Panipat were held successfully. Others are planned at Shimla, Kurukshetra, Chandigarh and Saharanpur. The zonal intercities start in September. There is a buzz in the District and Rotarians are enthused. September is the 'New Generations Month' and clubs are encouraged to hold joint meetings and have projects with Interact and Rotaract clubs participation. Encourage the children and youth to join the fight against Polio. Make them equal partners in securing the future as a ‘Polio Free World' for our children by participating in the drive to raise funds from the community for the $200 million Bill & Melinda Gates Polio Challenge. October is the ‘Vocational Service Month’ and it is time to reaffirm our faith and adherence to the Rotary values and the Four Way Test. Let us reach out and promote excellence in Rotarians through vocational awards and seminars. We are lucky that the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Rotary Foundation, PRIP Carl- Wilhelm Stenhammar addressed us at a special intercity in his honour at Chandigarh on 28th August 2010. The generosity of our Rotarians knows no bounds; nine MAJOR DONORS in this year and many PHF candidates already. Let the support to the TRF continue in the same flow for the rest of this Rotary year and we will set a new record of giving. District officers and zonal chairs are requested to forward their activity reports for the first quarter by end September. It is time to reflect on our plans and evaluate our achievements so far and continue with greater vigor to achieve our goals and may be exceed them as we go along Building Communities, Bridging Continents.

The movie ‘Come September’ comes to my mind as I pen and share my thoughts with you. After the melodious ‘Saawan ka Mahina’ by celebrating and savoring the fragrance of Teej – we have this month dedicated to youth. “To get what you never got - you have to do what you never did”. The phrase does ring a bell somewhere at some stage of our lives, so how do we go about it? We all have different personal experiences. When we talk of youth including our children, we may, at times, not be able to build the future for our youth but we can certainly, with some efforts, build our youth for the future. We need to nurture their capacity and sagacity. Caught up as they are in their self indulgent hectic lifestyles, where, in the daily hustle & bustle, the very purpose of life is often pushed into oblivion. So let us learn from the Rotary platform – ‘LEND A HAND’, ‘REACH OUT’, ‘BE A FRIEND’, ‘LOOK BEYOND YOURSELF’ & show that ‘ROTARY CARES’ & ‘ROTARY SHARES’ by ‘SOWING THE SEEDS OF LOVE’ to ‘MAKE THE DREAMS REALS’. Am I able to drive home my point?? Till we meet next,
