Story Pirates Idea Storms are bite-sized creative writing exercises from our friends at Story Pirates. Funny performances and stories from real students model writing techniques in an engaging way, encouraging students to get silly and move past writer's block. Teachers can use graphic organizers to help students plan their work, or use built-in musical timers to kickstart 10 minutes of free writing.

Best Practices Implementation: Lessons can be done as one-off routines to build good writing habits over time, or to begin brainstorming for a larger writing project. Instruction: Listen to the podcast, then project the writing prompt on an interactive white board for the whole class. Students can individually write using devices or a pen and paper. Scaffolds: Many lessons include graphic organizers that help students brainstorm while reinforcing the learning goals. If your classroom routine allows time for it, ask students to complete the graphic organizers before beginning the free write.
