It is not only politics and society, but companies in particular, with their technological developments, that have a great deal of influence on what the future energy supply, and thus our climate, will look like. If all stakeholders take joint action and are willing to try something new, we will have a bright energy future ahead of us. Now is the time to take advantage of the opportunities available and to actively drive forwards the transition to a new, sustainable approach to energy. That’s why the theme of the Swiss Energy and Climate Summit 2017 is «BOOST – The future of energy as opportunity». The focus will be on the belief in change and innovation. Not only will questions be posed and challenges discussed at this year’s instalment of the leading energy and climate conference, but clear answers, strategies and visions will be presented.

The Costa Rican politician Christiana Figueres began her career as Embassy Counsellor in Bonn, Germany. After holding management positions in the Ministry of Planning and the Ministry of Agriculture, she became Director of the Renewable Energy in the Americas (REIA) initiative and later Director of the Center for Sustainable Development in the Americas (CSDA). From 2010 to 2016, Figueres was Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). She played an important role in bringing about the historic Paris Agreement on climate change. Today Figueres is leading Mission 2020 as well as Vice Chair of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy. She is also active on various boards (e. g. ClimateWorks, World Resources Institute) and continues to champion an unspoilt environment.
